Nebraska Tailwaters Campground Introduce
For local users and travelers seeking a "camping near me" experience in northeastern Nebraska, the Nebraska Tailwaters Campground, located at 898 Road, Crofton, NE 68730, USA, offers a unique setting directly on the banks of the majestic Missouri River. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is noted for its cleanliness, friendly atmosphere, and direct river access via a boat ramp. While some considerations regarding site proximity and insect activity are mentioned, the overall sentiment suggests a decent and recommendable campground experience, particularly for those who appreciate riverside camping and the beauty of the Missouri River landscape.
A Riverside Environment with Unique Natural Beauty:
The most prominent feature of Nebraska Tailwaters Campground is its location right on the Missouri River. This provides campers with immediate access to the riverfront, offering scenic views and the opportunity to enjoy the river environment. One reviewer, passing through, noted it as "not a bad place for a campground being right on the Missouri river." The proximity to the river also brings unique natural elements that might not be typical of all campgrounds in the region. For instance, one camper from Colorado, accustomed to mountain camping, expressed delight in the "river sunsets and fireflies," highlighting the unexpected beauty of the riverside environment, especially during evenings.
However, being directly on the river also comes with environmental considerations. One reviewer mentioned that the campground was "very buggy there. Evening and mornings," specifically noting the presence of black flies in the morning and recommending bringing bug repellent. This suggests that while the riverside location offers scenic beauty, campers should be prepared for potential insect activity, particularly during certain times of the day and year.
Another environmental aspect to note is the spacing between campsites. One reviewer pointed out that "sites are pretty close together," which was a personal drawback for them. This suggests that while the campground offers a pleasant location, the layout might prioritize maximizing the number of riverside sites, potentially at the expense of more spacious individual camping areas. Local users who value more privacy and space between campsites might want to inquire about site dimensions or availability of more secluded spots, if any.
Services and Amenities Catering to River Enthusiasts and Travelers:
Based on the available reviews, Nebraska Tailwaters Campground offers essential services and amenities, with a particular focus on river access:
- Direct Missouri River Access via Boat Ramp: A significant feature is the boat ramp located as you enter the campground. This provides convenient access to the Missouri River for boating, fishing, and other water-based activities. For local users who own boats or enjoy fishing in the river, this is a major draw.

- Small Bathroom Facilities: The presence of "a small bathroom" is mentioned. This likely includes basic restroom facilities such as toilets and possibly sinks. Campers should be prepared for potentially limited facilities given the "small" description.
- Tent Camping Spots: One reviewer mentioned staying in one of the "tent spots," indicating that the campground accommodates tent campers in addition to RVs. The nature of these tent spots (e.g., whether they are on grass or gravel, shaded or open) is not detailed.
- Very Clean Environment: Multiple reviewers praised the cleanliness of the campground. One specifically stated, "VERY CLEAN," which is a significant positive aspect for any camper.
- Friendly Campers and Staff: The positive social environment is highlighted by a reviewer who noted "friendly campers and staff," contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.
- COVID Safety Measures (Implied): One reviewer mentioned feeling "really safe and welcomed, even with COVID," suggesting that the campground was taking appropriate measures during the pandemic, which speaks to their attention to guest safety and well-being.
While the reviews provide insights into these services, local users might want to contact the campground directly (using the provided phone number) for more specific information on the availability and nature of hookups, the number and type of bathroom facilities, and any other amenities such as picnic tables or fire rings at individual sites.

Nebraska Tailwaters Campground Reviews
Was passing through and stopped here for a night. Not a bad place for a campground being right on the Missouri river. Sites are pretty close together, which was my down. Boat ramp located as you come in to the campground, as well as a small bathroom. All sites face towards the river and it was very buggy there. Evening and mornings. The black flies were everywhere in the morning, so bring bug repellant. Overall decent campground and would recommend staying here.
Jun 23, 2024 · James BlinderThe guy that runs this place is awesome! I camped for 2 nights in one of the tent spots and it was lovely. I’m from Colorado and used to mountain camping, so the river sunsets and fireflies were a beautiful surprise.VERY CLEAN and friendly campers and staff, even with COVID I felt really safe and welcomed. Thanks!!
Jul 24, 2020 · Kristin BrownThis campground is on the Missouri River below the Gavin Point Dam and Lewis & Clark lake. Really lovely area. It’s a small campground backed up against a wooded bluff. Most sites are very very shaded. Sites are asphalt, many slope down a LOT, but are pretty level otherwise. We had no issues getting our rig level front to back but it did take effort. Sites are generally spaced close, but not “parking lot” close. Grass between sites. Park maintained really well with friendly hosts. Shower house is the nicest, cleanest COE shower house we’ve used. Electric only sites (50 amp option). Verizon signal pretty poor. 1 MBPS using hotspot. Dump station is outside of park on the side of a very busy highway which isn’t real convenient. Especially if there’s a line waiting to fill their potable water tanks. And there are not nearly enough water spigots inside park for refills, etc. So if you’re planning to stay more than a few nights, be aware of this issue. Across the river is Lewis & Clark State Park (South Dakota). We drove through the entire park (400+ sites), and it is really lovely. But again, just electric and we saw zero water spigots in the entire park while driving through. The dump station there is much better, though. (And the price to stay is quite high with out of state extra charge) Back to Tailwaters…we truly enjoyed our stay here and would return again. Yankton SD is 5 miles away and has everything you need.
May 29, 2023 · BenitaThe camp areas are nicely spaced out and relatively clean. The biggest complaint I would have about this entire area is that water access is somewhat limited for fishing and the shoreline is absolutely littered along it's entire length from itinerant fisherman leaving behind their bait containers and pop cans.
Sep 16, 2017 · Kent PetersCleanest bathrooms that I have seen in any campground! All site face the water. A nice quiet place to relax. Town is only 4 miles away with everything you need.
