Weigand Campground Introduce
Are you searching for a peaceful camping destination near you in Nebraska? Within the "camping near me" category, we invite you to learn about Weigand Campground, located in Crofton, NE 68730, USA. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (402) 388-4169 or +1 402-388-4169. Based on recent customer feedback, Weigand Campground offers a unique camping experience with both notable advantages and some areas to be aware of.
One of the primary draws of Weigand Campground, as highlighted by a recent visitor in mid-March 2025, is its tranquility. The reviewer noted it to be a "very quiet park," making it an ideal getaway for those seeking a serene and relaxing outdoor experience. The peaceful atmosphere allows campers to truly connect with nature and escape the noise of everyday life. Adding to the ambiance is the presence of wildlife; the reviewer specifically mentioned enjoying sightings of Canadian Geese and deer, suggesting a rich natural environment surrounding the campground.
The location of Weigand Campground offers scenic beauty as well. At least one campsite (site 5) is situated on a "small Bluff above the Missouri river," indicating the potential for picturesque views and possibly even direct access to the river for certain activities. The proximity to the Missouri River opens up opportunities for fishing and boating, which are listed as available activities within the park.
For those interested in recreation, Weigand Campground appears to offer a variety of options. According to the visitor, walking paths are available for leisurely strolls and exploring the grounds. Additionally, the presence of frisbee golf and playgrounds suggests that the campground caters to a range of ages and interests, providing opportunities for both active recreation and family fun.
Even at a basic tent camping site, some amenities are provided. The reviewer mentioned the availability of a pit toilet. While this is a more rustic option, it serves the fundamental need for restroom facilities. Furthermore, each basic site seems to be equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, essential for outdoor dining and enjoying campfires (subject to any park regulations). The size of at least one campsite (site 5) is described as "very large," offering ample space for tents and gear.
In terms of connectivity, a significant advantage reported by the visitor is the strong cellular service, with "4 bars of 5G cell service" available at their campsite. This can be crucial for staying connected or in case of emergencies. For those who require Wi-Fi, a hotspot is available at the camp office, although it might not be accessible from all campsites.
Weigand Campground also offers "off-season rates," which can be a significant benefit for budget-conscious travelers or those camping outside the peak season. This promotional aspect makes it a more affordable option during certain times of the year.
However, the recent review also brought to light several drawbacks that potential visitors should consider. One notable expense was the requirement to pay $90 for two vehicle permits in addition to the camping fee. This extra cost could significantly impact the overall budget of a camping trip, and it's essential for prospective campers to factor this in. It's also mentioned that a Nebraska park permit is required for your vehicle, which is a standard regulation for Nebraska state parks and recreation areas.
Another significant limitation reported was that the water was "still shut down for the season" during mid-March. This implies that running water might not be available during the off-season, and campers should inquire about water availability when making reservations, especially if traveling outside the peak summer months.
The absence of water and sewer hookups at the basic tent site meant the reviewer had to use the public showers, which required quarters. Furthermore, the condition of the public shower room was a concern, with the reviewer noting it was "dirty" and had only "1 hook for clothes and towel," indicating a lack of adequate facilities for personal belongings.
The public bathroom also had issues, including "cobwebs (black spiders)" and a "leaking toilet," which resulted in a "slippery" floor. These maintenance concerns are important for potential visitors to be aware of.
Adding to the list of potential drawbacks, a public notice indicated that the beach had tested positive for E. coli. This is a significant health concern for anyone planning to use the beach area and suggests that swimming or other water activities in that specific location might be unsafe. Campers should heed any posted warnings and seek updated information regarding water quality if they intend to use the beach.
Finally, the reviewer described the park roads and the road leading to Weigand Campground as "pathetic," suggesting that the infrastructure might be in poor condition, potentially affecting the travel experience to and within the park, especially for vehicles with lower clearance.
In summary, Weigand Campground near Crofton, NE, offers a quiet and scenic camping experience along the Missouri River, with recreational activities like walking paths, frisbee golf, fishing, and boating available. It benefits from off-season rates and good cell service at campsites. However, potential visitors should be prepared for additional costs such as vehicle permits, potential lack of on-site water during certain times, and be aware of the reported issues with the cleanliness and maintenance of the public restrooms and showers, as well as the condition of the roads and the E. coli contamination at the beach.
For local users considering "camping near me," Weigand Campground might be appealing for its tranquility and natural setting, especially during the off-season when lower rates are offered. However, it is crucial to weigh these advantages against the reported limitations and come prepared for potentially rustic conditions and additional fees. It is highly recommended to contact Weigand Campground directly at (402) 388-4169 or +1 402-388-4169 to inquire about current conditions, water availability, vehicle permit requirements, and the status of the beach before making a reservation. This will help ensure a more informed and enjoyable camping experience.

Weigand Campground Reviews
We are staying at a basic tent camping site. There is available to us a pit toilet. Water is still shut down for the season.Luckily, they do offer off-season rates. A Nebraska park permit is required for your vehicle.Picnic table and fire ring are also here for us.We are the only ones here in the entire park (mid-March 2025). Grounds are clean. Our site (site 5) is very large, and located on a small Bluff above the Missouri river.Walking paths, frisbee golf, playgrounds, fishing, and boating are all available.I have 4 bars of 5G cell service at my camp site. A WIFI hot spot is available at the camp office as well.
Mar 13, 2025 · Bibs OutdoorsGood: Very quiet park. Enjoyed seeing the Canadian Geese and deer. Bad: Had to pay $90 for 2 vehicle permits besides the camping fee. No water and sewer hookup at site, had to feed the public shower quarters. The dirty shower room had 1 hook for clothes and towel. Bathroom had cobwebs (black spiders) and leaking toilet, floor was slippery. Public notice the beach tested positive for ecoli. Park roads and road to Weigand are pathetic!
Aug 06, 2023 · Mike YIt is one of the most beautiful parks in Nebraska on the Missouri River. I love spending a few weeks every year in the fall: breathtaking views, great hiking areas, and plenty to do and see.
Oct 12, 2023 · Rob JohnsonWe stayed here for 3 nights while traveling to Mount Rushmore. Our lot was #26 and although it was a few hundred feet away from the water, the view was lightly blocked by trees. With that said, this lot and the one next to it, would be perfect for 2 families as the lots are in an area by themselves with decent space. It also has good trails going along the lake all the way to the marina. The marina had a pizza and ice cream place (although they were closed due to Covid19 restrictions) and overall the park was clean. The beach was also clean with plenty of space for everyone. I went kayaking to the campground next to Weigand and the water was calmed and peaceful. We even saw a bald eagle nest in one of the trees. The only reason we are giving it 4 starts, it’s because the park only had 1 area to get fresh water and there was one 1 dump station. So in the morning while everyone is trying to leave, the line to use the dump station can be long while you wait. FYI, there is another dump station by the army corps of engineers that is free to use.
Jul 04, 2020 · CardRodzBeautiful campground. Loved it there. There is no Wi-Fi unless you go to the Marina where there is a small store. We got soft serve, flavor infused ice cream cones there. It would be nice if there were more play areas for the kids. There is one playground near the Marina and it has no shade. It is also quite a jaunt from the camp sites. We drove over to the beach and really enjoyed it there. The water was fairly shallow, and the swimming area as well as the beach were quite large.
