New Fork Lake Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" who are captivated by pristine lakes and a wide array of outdoor adventures, New Fork Lake Campground near Cora, Wyoming, presents an enticing option. Situated along Forest Road 735A, this campground offers direct access to the exceptionally beautiful New Fork Lake, a destination praised for its clean waters and spectacular scenery. Whether you're seeking a spot for swimming, kayaking, fishing, hiking, or simply immersing yourself in nature's grandeur, New Fork Lake Campground provides a gateway to a memorable Wyoming experience.
The centerpiece of this location is undoubtedly New Fork Lake itself. Described by visitors as "super nice" with "clean" water, the lake invites a variety of recreational activities. While one reviewer noted that the water can be cold for swimming, it is certainly an option for those seeking a refreshing dip. The lake is also ideal for kayaking and paddle boarding, allowing visitors to explore its serene surface and take in the breathtaking views from the water. Fishing enthusiasts will find opportunities to cast their lines, hoping to reel in the local trout. The "spectacular" views from the lake, especially when kayaking in the evening, promise unforgettable moments and stunning photo opportunities.
The environment surrounding New Fork Lake Campground is characterized by its natural beauty and access to diverse terrain. One reviewer mentioned that the terrain is "rough once there by shore," which might suggest that navigating the immediate shoreline could require some caution, but it also hints at a more natural and less manicured landscape. The area boasts "incredible" views, likely encompassing the lake itself and the surrounding mountains and forests. For those who enjoy exploring on foot, the presence of "multiple hiking trails around the lake" offers ample opportunities to stretch your legs, discover hidden viewpoints, and further immerse yourself in the wilderness. The ability to see the lake from higher vantage points, as mentioned by a visitor who used a side-by-side vehicle, provides a different perspective and highlights the expansive beauty of the area.
New Fork Lake Campground also caters to group gatherings, as one review mentions it being chosen for a "family event." The campground features a "day use area" which provides "easy access to the water," making it convenient for picnics, launching watercraft, or simply enjoying the lakeside. However, it's important to note that the parking in the day use area is described as "pretty limited," so those planning group events or day trips should be aware of potential parking constraints, especially during peak times.
A crucial aspect that potential visitors must be aware of is the condition of the access road. Both reviews explicitly mention that "the road into the campground and to the day use area are very treacherous." One reviewer strongly advises that "if you are driving in a car you should use a lot of caution." This suggests that the road may be unpaved, steep, narrow, or have other challenging conditions that require careful driving, especially for vehicles with lower clearance or those towing trailers. It would be prudent to inquire about the specific road conditions before traveling to the campground and to ensure your vehicle is suitable for the terrain.
Given the location in Wyoming, which is known bear country, one of the reviews includes a vital piece of advice: "Carry your bear spray." This is a standard safety precaution for anyone venturing into areas where bears may be present. Having bear spray readily accessible and knowing how to use it is essential for ensuring your safety and the safety of others while enjoying the outdoors around New Fork Lake Campground.
While the reviews highlight the stunning natural beauty and recreational opportunities, specific details about the campground's amenities are somewhat limited. The information does not explicitly mention the availability of restrooms, water sources, fire pits, or picnic tables at individual campsites. This suggests that New Fork Lake Campground might offer more rustic or basic facilities, and campers should be prepared to be somewhat self-sufficient, especially regarding water and cooking arrangements. It would be advisable to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about the specific amenities available.
In conclusion, for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience centered around a beautiful and clean lake with opportunities for swimming, kayaking, fishing, and hiking, New Fork Lake Campground near Cora, Wyoming, is a compelling destination. The incredible views and the sense of being immersed in nature are significant draws. However, potential visitors must be prepared for a potentially treacherous access road that requires careful driving. Additionally, it is essential to practice bear safety by carrying bear spray. While specific campground amenities are not detailed, the overall allure of New Fork Lake and its surrounding natural beauty promises a rewarding outdoor adventure for those willing to navigate the challenges of access and potential lack of extensive facilities. Be sure to check road conditions and inquire about amenities before your trip to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at this scenic Wyoming campground.

New Fork Lake Campground Reviews
This lake was super nice! The water is clean, but cold if u want to swim. People can swim, kayak, fish or just camp. The terrain is rough once there by shore. We kayaked one evening and the view was spectacular. Also used the side by side and got to see the lake from top. Carry your bear spray.
Sep 22, 2023 · Ana GarciaThis campground was chosen for a family event. We met at the day use area where the parking is pretty limited but there is easy access to the water. The views are incredible and there are multiple hiking trails around the lake. We saw multiple paddle boarders. The road into the campground and to the day use area are very treacherous and if you are driving in a car you should use a lot of caution.
Sep 04, 2023 · Brian SlaterVery rough and run down campground. 15 sites but most are overgrown and small. Not advised for TT or RVs as the access road is the roughest I have ever encountered, almost need high clearance vehicle. Rate is cheap though..$7 nite. Sites have tables, fire rings, and there is a vault toilet. However No water, trash cans and no cell signal. There is a day use beach area though that is scenic.
