The Narrows Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" who dream of waking up to breathtaking lakeside views and immersing themselves in a pristine natural environment, The Narrows Campground near Cora, Wyoming, presents an exceptional opportunity. Situated along New Fork Lake Road, this campground offers direct access to the stunning New Fork Lake and promises a memorable outdoor adventure. The overwhelmingly positive reviews highlight its scenic beauty, abundant recreational activities, and a sense of being truly "off the grid," making it a highly recommended destination for those who love to camp and connect with nature.
The environment surrounding The Narrows Campground is truly captivating. Nestled right next to the picturesque New Fork Lake, campers are treated to amazing views directly from their campsites. The lake itself is a major draw, offering crystal-clear waters perfect for a variety of activities. One reviewer mentioned a "nice beach down from our campsite" that provided the ideal setting for watching "wonderful sunsets," painting a picture of serene evenings spent by the water's edge. The proximity to the lake also facilitates easy access for swimming, described as "quite refreshing," especially during the warmer months.
A significant feature for water enthusiasts is the opportunity to explore the "twin lakes" (likely referring to New Fork Lake and potentially another nearby body of water accessible from it) by canoe or kayak. One visitor recounted bringing their canoe down to the lake's edge, noting that while it was "not easy but not too hard," it was well worth the effort. Paddling on these lakes offers a fantastic perspective of the surrounding landscape and the chance to discover hidden coves and tranquil shorelines. The abundance of wildlife along the shorelines is another major highlight, with "Eagles and Deer" being mentioned as plentiful sightings, providing incredible opportunities for nature observation and photography.
For anglers, The Narrows Campground appears to be a veritable paradise. Both reviewers enthusiastically mentioned the exceptional fishing. One stated that "the Trout were biting whenever we tried fishing!" while another exclaimed that "the fishing was insane!!!!" This strong and consistent feedback suggests that New Fork Lake is teeming with trout, offering a rewarding experience for both novice and experienced fishermen. The chance to catch fish right from the lake adjacent to your campsite is a significant draw for many outdoor enthusiasts.
The campsites at The Narrows Campground are praised for being "spaced well apart," offering a greater sense of privacy and tranquility compared to campgrounds where sites are closely packed together. This spacing allows campers to feel more immersed in nature and enjoy a more secluded experience. However, it's worth noting that securing a spot, especially during peak season, might require some patience. One visitor who arrived on a Sunday morning in July had to wait a couple of hours for an available spot, indicating the campground's popularity and the potential for it to fill up, especially on weekends and during the summer.
The access to The Narrows Campground is also described as contributing to its unique charm. One reviewer noted that the "dirt road drive in was great made you feel as if you were totally off the grid!!" This suggests that while the campground is accessible, the journey itself enhances the feeling of escaping into a more remote and natural setting, adding to the overall wilderness experience. The fact that visitors from as far as Colorado found the drive "so worth it" speaks volumes about the destination's appeal and the sense of escape it provides.
However, potential visitors should also be aware of a minor inconvenience mentioned in one of the reviews: the presence of flies. It was noted that there were "quite a few flies around after 10am til just before sunset," so bringing insect repellent ("spray") and possibly a headnet is recommended to ensure comfort during these times. This is a common occurrence in many lakeside environments, particularly during the summer months, and being prepared can mitigate any potential annoyance.
While the reviews provide glowing accounts of the scenery, fishing, and overall experience, specific details about other amenities such as restrooms, water sources, or fire pits are not explicitly mentioned. Given the emphasis on the natural environment and the "off the grid" feel, it's possible that The Narrows Campground offers more rustic amenities, or that campers should be prepared to be self-sufficient in certain aspects. It would be advisable to inquire about the availability of specific facilities when contacting the campground using the provided phone numbers.
In conclusion, for local users seeking a "camping near me" destination that combines stunning lakeside beauty with exceptional recreational opportunities, The Narrows Campground near Cora, Wyoming, is a highly recommended choice. The breathtaking views of New Fork Lake, fantastic fishing for trout, opportunities for canoeing and kayaking on pristine waters, and abundant wildlife sightings create a truly memorable experience. The well-spaced campsites and the feeling of being "off the grid" further enhance its appeal for those seeking a genuine wilderness escape. While there may be flies to contend with during certain times of the day, being prepared with insect repellent should allow you to fully enjoy the incredible natural surroundings and the wealth of activities that The Narrows Campground has to offer. Be prepared for potential wait times for a campsite, especially during peak season, as this popular destination is clearly worth the wait for a truly unforgettable lakeside camping adventure.

The Narrows Campground Reviews
We had the best time here. Arrived on a Sunday morning in July and had to wait a couple hours for an available spot but well worth the wait. We brought our canoe and we took it down to the lakes edge. It was not easy but not too hard even though it was a ways down.Campsites were spaced well apart and the views of the lake amazing. Nice beach down from our campsite made for wonderful sunsets. We also did some swimming, quite refreshing. There were quite a few flies around after 10am til just before sunset so bring spray and possibly a headnet. Paddling the twin lakes was amazing. Eagles and Deer were plentiful along the shorelines. Also the Trout were biting whenever we tried fishing!

Jun 10, 2019 · Bridgette Carlson-Hodge (Dove)This is one of my favorite primitive camp grounds. No water ( need to fill up in Pinedale or haul the entire way ) or electricity. Pit toilets not cleaned regularly due to lack of camp host. The forest service comes from Pinedale to clean once a week. Also no dump station so when leaving the closest one is in Pinedale.Camp spaces are large and have a fire pit with picnic table. Bear boxes at each camp for coolers. Never leave out food. No garbage dumpster so pack in and out. Quiet hours 10pm - 7am so plan generator use.Lake is small but flat bottom boats can still launch at dock. Narrows are treacherous with large rocks appearing due to low water level. Camp grounds gets busy Thursday - Sunday but mid week only 4 of 17 sites were occupied. Only 4 sites can be reserved so plan ahead. We get reservations in Feb. for July.
Aug 07, 2021 · Yvonne KohringCamping here was a blast. They have awesome beaches around the giant lake. Water is clear and beautiful. You can catch some cows roaming around they are cute. Great place to hike around, and the campsites are a decent size. This is our second year back to the narrows and we plan on going again!
