Are you searching for "camping near me" and dreaming of a picturesque and secluded getaway in the heart of Wyoming's natural beauty? Green River Lake Campground, nestled within the Bridger Teton National Forest near Cora, WY, offers an exceptional camping experience characterized by its stunning environment, private campsites, and essential amenities. Located off Forest Rd 650, Cora, WY 82925, USA, this campground provides a tranquil escape for tent campers and RV enthusiasts alike.
According to visitor reviews, Green River Lake Campground is a "beautiful campground" that boasts "a lot of privacy for tent sites." This emphasis on privacy suggests that the campsites are well-spaced, allowing campers to enjoy a sense of seclusion and immersion in nature. For those seeking a peaceful retreat away from crowded campgrounds, the layout of Green River Lake Campground appears to be particularly appealing.
The reviews also highlight the relative quiet of the campground, with one visitor describing it as "reasonably quiet." This is a significant advantage for campers who prioritize a serene and undisturbed camping experience, where they can relax to the sounds of nature and enjoy a peaceful night's sleep under the stars.
While the destination itself is highly praised, it's crucial to be aware of the journey. Several reviews mention the access road to Green River Lake Campground. One visitor notes that it's "about an hour of dirt road to get there which gets pretty bad in some spots." Another camper elaborates on this, stating that "the road in is a bit tricky if you don't have a decent vehicle." They further explain the significant difference in travel time based on vehicle type, estimating a 20-minute drive in a "high clearance 4wd" versus a 1 hour and 20-minute drive in a "low clearance 2wd." This information is vital for anyone planning a visit, as the condition of the access road will heavily influence the travel experience and the type of vehicle recommended.
Despite the challenging access road, the rewards of reaching Green River Lake Campground seem to outweigh the inconvenience for many. Once there, campers can expect essential amenities to support a comfortable stay. Potable "water on site" is a significant convenience, ensuring campers have access to a necessary resource. While the campground does not offer showers, it does provide "vault toilets" which are noted to be "very clean." Clean and well-maintained restroom facilities contribute significantly to a positive camping experience.
Further detailing the campsite features, a reviewer mentions that "campsites are all furnished with bear boxes, picnic tables, and fire rings." These are standard and highly valued amenities in campgrounds, particularly in areas with wildlife. Bear boxes provide a secure place to store food and scented items, crucial for safety in bear country. Picnic tables offer a convenient space for meals and activities, while fire rings allow for campfires (where permitted) and cooking.
The availability of "water spigots and bathrooms placed throughout the campsite loops" adds to the convenience and accessibility of the campground. Multiple water sources ensure that campers can easily access water without having to travel long distances within the campground. Similarly, strategically placed bathrooms enhance comfort and hygiene.
One interesting observation from a visitor who was there on a Thursday in August is that the campground was "half empty!" This suggests that even during a popular summer month, there might be availability, potentially making it easier to secure a campsite compared to more crowded locations. However, it's always advisable to check for reservations and availability, especially during peak seasons and weekends.

Green River Lake Campground Reviews
Beautiful campground with a lot of privacy for tent sites. Reasonably quiet. About an hour of dirt road to get there which gets pretty bad in some spots. Was there on a Thursday in August and it was half empty!Water on site, no showers, vault toilets (very clean)
Aug 18, 2024 · Frenchy CampAwesome campground, albeit the road in is a bit tricky if you don't have a decent vehicle. I've done it in low clearance 2wd and high clearance 4wd and the difference is 20min drive vs 1:20 drive. Campsites are all furnished with bear boxes, picnic tables, and fire rings. There are water spigots and bathrooms placed throughout the campsite loops.
Aug 02, 2023 · chris landadioSuch a beautiful place! Make sure you have a high clearance vehicle. There is a rough dirt road for about 15-20 miles. I saw cars on this road and that's not a great idea. Just a heads up
Jul 25, 2022 · CharlotteVery majestic scenery and remote campground. Grounds are nice for how remote they are. This campground is very remote and the road leading to it was rocky and heavily washboarded for 18 miles. We were only able to go 10 to 15 mph so it was a long bumpy ride. We pulled a camp trailer and were surprised that our camper wasn't damaged. Tie down your stuff on the road! We went midweek and had no problem getting a camp spot.
Aug 21, 2020 · Sean GordonOne of the most beautiful places on earth. Best visit ever. Saw the total eclipse from here. Plenty of places to hike, camp and fish. The forest service did such a great job helping people with the event that day 8/21/2017.
