Newport Campground Introduce
For local adventurers in the Crawfordville, Florida area seeking an affordable basecamp for exploring the region's natural beauty, Newport Campground, located at 8046 Coastal Hwy, Crawfordville, FL 32327, USA, presents a budget-friendly option under the "camping near me" category. Inquiries can be directed to (850) 745-7780 or +1 850-745-7780. Based on recent customer reviews, Newport Campground offers a mix of appealing features and some drawbacks that potential local campers should be aware of.
One reviewer highlighted the "incredible" price as a significant advantage of Newport Campground. For budget-conscious local campers, this could be a primary draw. Furthermore, the campground's proximity to "many of the natural places to visit" in the area is a major benefit for those looking to explore the outdoors. This likely includes the nearby St Marks National Wildlife Refuge, a significant attraction for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. The presence of a boat launch directly within the campground is another notable feature, providing convenient access to the river for boating and fishing activities. This adds considerable value for local residents who enjoy water-based recreation.
In terms of basic campsite amenities, the same reviewer noted that each site includes picnic tables, grills, and burn rings, offering the essentials for outdoor cooking and enjoying campfires. The cleanliness and maintenance of the bathrooms were also praised as being "clean and well taken care of," which is an important factor for camper comfort and hygiene.
However, this reviewer also pointed out some cons. The lack of a playground might be a drawback for families with young children. More significantly, the campground is situated close to a "main very busy noisy road," which could impact the tranquility of the camping experience, especially for those seeking a peaceful natural retreat. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned a significant issue with "tiny biting bugs they call no see ums." These insects were reported to be present "all day and night" and bite constantly, necessitating the frequent application of "a lot of bug spray" to make the experience manageable. Despite these drawbacks, the reviewer concluded with a "solid 3" rating, suggesting that the pros, particularly the price and location, somewhat outweigh the cons, especially for campers who plan to spend most of their time away from the immediate campsite exploring the surrounding attractions.
Another reviewer offered a more positive perspective, describing Newport Campground as "great" and "super close to the St Mark's Wildlife area," reinforcing its advantageous location for nature enthusiasts. This reviewer specifically commended Victoria, the camp host, for her significant efforts in improving the campground to its current "gallery" state. This suggests ongoing improvements and a commitment to guest satisfaction. The cleanliness and appointment of the bathhouse were again highlighted as "super clean and nicely appointed," and the overall park was described as "clean, safe, and inviting."
This second reviewer also emphasized the campground's location "right on the river," further underscoring the access to water activities via the boat ramp and the opportunity to walk out on the dock. They described the atmosphere as "very serene and quiet despite being close to the highway," which somewhat contradicts the first reviewer's experience with road noise. This discrepancy could be due to the specific location of campsites within the campground or individual sensitivities to noise. It's advisable for local campers to consider this potential variability.
In terms of environment, Newport Campground benefits from its proximity to the St Marks National Wildlife Refuge, a vast area known for its diverse ecosystems, including salt marshes, coastal forests, and estuaries, teeming with wildlife and offering opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife photography. The campground's riverfront location provides additional scenic value and access to water-based recreation. However, the proximity to a busy coastal highway is a significant environmental factor that could impact the peace and quiet of the camping experience.
The services and features of Newport Campground include essential amenities such as clean and well-maintained bathhouses, a boat launch for river access, and individual campsites equipped with picnic tables, grills, and burn rings. The absence of a playground might be a limitation for families with young children. The lack of other mentioned amenities suggests a more basic camping experience focused on providing the essentials rather than extensive recreational facilities.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. As a smaller, possibly privately owned campground, Newport might rely on word-of-mouth and online listings rather than extensive promotional campaigns. Local users might find information on pricing and availability by contacting the campground directly via phone. The first reviewer's mention of an "incredible" price suggests that affordability could be a key selling point for Newport Campground, especially for local campers seeking a budget-friendly option for exploring the nearby natural attractions.
In conclusion, Newport Campground near Crawfordville, Florida, offers an affordable camping option with a significant advantage in its location, providing easy access to the St Marks National Wildlife Refuge and river activities via its on-site boat launch. The basic campsite amenities, including picnic tables, grills, and burn rings, cater to essential camping needs, and the bathhouses are reportedly clean and well-maintained. However, potential local campers should be aware of the reported issues with noise from the nearby busy highway and the prevalence of biting "no see um" insects, requiring diligent use of bug spray. While one reviewer found the campground serene despite the highway, others might be more sensitive to the noise. The positive feedback regarding the camp host and ongoing improvements suggests a commitment to enhancing the guest experience. For local users prioritizing affordability and access to nature over extensive on-site amenities and tranquility, Newport Campground is a viable option worth considering, with the caveat of being prepared for potential noise and insect issues.

Newport Campground Reviews
On the pro's side the price is incredible. It's close to many of the natural places to visit. The bathrooms are clean and well taken care of, there is a boat launch located within the campground, and the site includes picnic tables, grills, and burn rings. On the cons side, there is no playground and really no amenities. It is close to a main very busy noisy road. Also, it is infested with tiny biting bugs they call no see ums. These things are out all day and night and they bite constantly. You will need a lot of bug spray that must be reapplied several times through out the day while here to make it manageable. On the plus side most of your time will be taken up with all the things to do and you likely won't be spending much time at the site anyway. It's a solid 3 😁 for me.
Apr 22, 2025 · Flaming CauldronThis is a great campground super close to the St Mark's Wildlife area. Victoria, the camp just, has done a ton of work getting this place up to the gallery it is now at. Bathhouse is super clean and nicely appointed, and the whole park is clean, safe, and inviting. Right on the river, you are right beside a boat ramp ortcan walk out on the dock. Very serene and quiet despite being close to the highway.
Mar 20, 2025 · Travis EngramA great little campground if you are looking for just the basics. Sites were level it was quiet and very close to the St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge. Bathrooms were clean. No amenities here such as playgrounds, camp store, etc. But nice sites and a nice boardwalk out to observation deck on the river.

Apr 22, 2025 · marilyn ashbyPleasant surprise for a last minute campsite. The camp Host (Victoria) was the friendliest, most helpful and hardest working camp host we have ever come across! She never stopped! She was constantly checking on folks, stocking the restrooms, etc. The restrooms were spotless everytime I used them. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
