Based on recent online reviews, this KOA Holiday campground offers friendly service and various amenities, although some aspects, particularly the glamping tents, have received mixed feedback, and renovations are currently underway.
Niantic is a coastal town in southeastern Connecticut, known for its scenic shoreline, beaches, and proximity to the Long Island Sound. The environment surrounding the Niantic / I-95 Exit 72 KOA Holiday likely benefits from this coastal location, potentially offering a pleasant setting with access to nearby attractions such as beaches, maritime activities, and local dining. Being located near I-95 Exit 72 suggests convenient access for both local campers and those traveling from further afield. KOA campgrounds are generally known for providing a range of amenities and services aimed at creating a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience for various types of campers, including those with RVs, tents, and those interested in glamping.
The online reviews provide a glimpse into the experiences of recent visitors. One reviewer who stayed in a "glamping tent" reported a significant issue with "awful mold on the walls," indicating a need for thorough cleaning in these units. However, this same reviewer praised the "Great service," noting that "everyone was so nice." They also mentioned ongoing "renovations" and expressed optimism that the campground "will be real nice once done," suggesting that improvements are in progress which could enhance the overall experience for future visitors.
Another reviewer had a more broadly positive experience, describing it as a "Great place to camp!" They highlighted "Friendly people," cleanliness ("clean"), a peaceful atmosphere ("quiet"), and enjoyable amenities such as a "great" pool and "hot shower!" This positive feedback suggests that many aspects of the campground meet or exceed camper expectations, particularly regarding service and essential amenities.
A third reviewer also stayed in a "glamping tent" and found it to be "easy clean well equipped," offering a contrasting view to the first reviewer's experience with mold. This discrepancy might indicate variability in the condition of the glamping tents or different standards of cleanliness and maintenance. It's important for local users considering this type of accommodation to inquire specifically about the current condition of the glamping units.
Considering these reviews, the Niantic / I-95 Exit 72 KOA Holiday appears to offer generally friendly and helpful service, which is a significant positive. The availability of a pool and hot showers are also valuable amenities that contribute to a comfortable camping experience. The ongoing renovations suggest a commitment to improving the campground, which could address any current shortcomings. However, the reported issue with mold in at least one glamping tent is a concern that potential guests should be aware of and inquire about.
As a KOA Holiday campground, local users can likely expect a range of services and features beyond the basics. These often include well-maintained campsites for RVs and tents, with varying levels of hookups (water, electricity, sewer). KOA campgrounds typically offer clean restroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, and a camp store for supplies and souvenirs. Recreational amenities might include playgrounds, game areas, and possibly planned activities, especially during peak seasons. The mention of a pool in one review confirms the presence of at least one recreational amenity. Given the "Holiday" designation, it's likely that this KOA offers a more comprehensive set of amenities compared to a basic KOA.
The environment, while benefiting from the coastal location of Niantic, isn't extensively detailed in the reviews. However, KOA campgrounds often emphasize convenience and a family-friendly atmosphere. The proximity to I-95 Exit 72 suggests easy access, which can be a significant benefit for travelers and local residents alike. Local attractions in the Niantic area might include beaches, the Niantic Bay Boardwalk, the East Lyme Historical Society Museum, and various local shops and restaurants. The KOA could serve as a convenient base for exploring these nearby points of interest.
Promotional information is not provided in the reviews. KOA campgrounds often have their own website or booking platform where local users might find details about seasonal rates, special packages, or KOA membership benefits that could offer discounts. It would be advisable to check the official KOA website or contact the Niantic / I-95 Exit 72 KOA Holiday directly to inquire about any current promotions or discounts available to local residents or for specific types of stays.
In conclusion, the Niantic / I-95 Exit 72 KOA Holiday offers a convenient location in coastal Connecticut with friendly service and amenities such as a pool and hot showers. It caters to both RV and tent campers, and also offers glamping tents. However, potential guests should be aware of reported issues with mold in some glamping units and the fact that renovations are in progress, which might impact certain areas of the campground. While one reviewer found their glamping tent "easy clean well equipped," the contrasting experience suggests variability. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh the positive feedback about service and amenities against the reported cleanliness issue in some glamping tents and the ongoing renovations. Contacting the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on the condition of accommodations and any potential disruptions due to renovations is recommended before making a reservation.

We had a glamping tent and the mold was awful on the walls, needs a good cleaning. Great service, everyone was so nice. They are making renovations, be patient, I think it will be real nice once done.
Apr 28, 2025 · Jim LaughlinGreat place to camp! Friendly people, clean, quiet, pool was great, hot shower! We stayed in a glamping tent- easy clean well equipped.
Apr 16, 2025 · Laura CurranNo heat in showers. Shower heads a joke for a small shower stall. Management would have been better off putting money in regular shower heads and heaters.
Apr 18, 2025 · Mary CorbettOur experience at this natic KOA campground was exceptional! The service we received was the best we've ever had at any KOA. The whole family went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They helped us set up the air conditioning unit on the RV roof and when it didn't fit help us to take it down and ups store! The attention to detail and commitment to guest satisfaction was truly amazing. We felt genuinely spoiled and cared for during our Stay. The father the Daugther and the wife all were amazing.Thank you for hosting us .❤️
Jul 24, 2024 · nava writzWill be a great koa when they are done updating. There was a bit of construction going on. We did have trouble with our gray tank hookup and cable. They were right on it and fixed both issues right away. They also have a free convenient shuttle service!
