This campsite is only open to non-profits. I attended a Cub scout campout here. For San Diegans this place is extremely convenient. For a weekend getaway with a pack of little ones the place is great. You can see there was a lot of investment in this park. Unfortunately the well system has struggled to remove microorganisms that make the well water not potable. The bathrooms have operational flush toilets, but the sinks and camp taps have been taped off while they continue to work on getting the bromine treatment system to produce consistent results. In the meantime the super friendly rangers help keep your jugs topped off. All that said, just about anyone in San Diego could drive home and shower if so desired. While being so close, it is nestled well into the canyon away from the sprawling housing and freeway noise. The place just accommodates a single group, so little ones are free to roam the space without disturbing strangers. There are day hikers passing through. The trail is well maintained and brings you to a beautiful overlook above the reservoir. Most of the trail is shaded beneath trees. A great hike for small children. There is a huge covered group dining area with an outdoor kitchen space. No sinks or gas lines. A good sized charcoal grill setup and lots of counter space. There are plenty of picnic tables. There is a 115V AC plug that may be accessed with an extension cord. Requires ranger approval, I believe. It's a beautiful space for a quick weekend outing with small children. If only they could get that water system working correctly. - James

Services and Amenities:

Oakoasis County Preserve Campsite offers a range of amenities designed to support group camping activities:

  • Potable Water Advisory: It is crucial to note that the well system at Oakoasis has faced challenges in providing consistently potable water due to microorganisms. As a result, the sinks and camp taps have been taped off. However, the "super friendly rangers" are available to help keep visitors' water jugs filled, indicating a proactive approach to mitigate this issue. Campers also have the option to drive home to shower if desired, given the campsite's convenience to San Diego.
  • Restroom Facilities: The campsite provides operational flush toilets, which is a significant convenience for group camping, especially with children. There is also mention of "one shower," suggesting limited shower facilities.
  • Huge Covered Group Dining Area: A spacious covered area is available for group meals and activities, providing shelter from the sun or light rain.
  • Outdoor Kitchen Space: Adjacent to the dining area is an outdoor kitchen space, although it currently lacks sinks and gas lines.
  • Charcoal Grill Setup: A good-sized charcoal grill is provided, allowing groups to prepare meals outdoors. Campers will need to bring their own charcoal and grilling utensils.
  • Ample Counter Space: The outdoor kitchen area includes plenty of counter space for food preparation and serving.
  • Picnic Tables: The campsite is equipped with numerous picnic tables, offering ample seating for large groups.
  • 115V AC Plug: An outdoor 115V AC electrical outlet is available for use with an extension cord, although it reportedly requires ranger approval for access. This can be useful for charging devices or powering limited equipment.
  • Friendly Rangers: The rangers at Oakoasis are consistently described as "super friendly" and helpful, particularly in assisting with the water situation.

The amenities cater well to group camping needs, with a focus on communal dining and outdoor activities. The main challenge, as highlighted in reviews, is the ongoing issue with the potable water supply.

Features and Benefits:

Oakoasis County Preserve Campsite offers several unique features and benefits for non-profit groups:

  • Exclusive Use for Single Groups: The campsite's policy of accommodating only one group at a time ensures privacy, safety for children, and the ability to manage activities without external disturbances.
  • Convenient Location for San Diegans: Its proximity to San Diego makes it easily accessible for weekend getaways and minimizes travel time.
  • Well-Maintained Hiking Trail with Scenic Overlook: The shaded trail suitable for young children and the beautiful view of the reservoir provide excellent opportunities for outdoor exploration and enjoyment.
  • Excellent Group Dining Facilities: The large covered dining area and outdoor kitchen space are ideal for communal meals and gatherings.
  • Spacious Campsite: The "plenty of space" mentioned in a review allows groups to spread out and conduct various activities comfortably.
  • Operational Flush Toilets: The availability of flush toilets adds a level of convenience not always found in more rustic campsites.

The primary drawback is the current issue with the non-potable water from the well system, which requires reliance on ranger assistance for water jugs or bringing personal water supplies.

Promotional Information:

As Oakoasis County Preserve Campsite is specifically for non-profit organizations, traditional promotional offers might not be applicable in the same way as for public campgrounds. However, non-profits considering booking the site may want to inquire about:
