Old Chatham Road Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" on beautiful Cape Cod? Old Chatham Road Campground, located at 310 Old Chatham Rd, South Dennis, MA 02660, USA, offers a camping experience in a convenient location. You can reach them at (508) 385-3616 or +1 508-385-3616 for inquiries and reservations. Based on recent customer feedback, the campground presents a mix of features and experiences that local users might find relevant.
One recent visitor shared a less than enthusiastic review, noting that a significant portion of the campsites appeared to be seasonal, occupied by semi-permanent "homes" rather than short-term travelers. While not inherently negative, this aspect might not align with the expectations of those seeking a more transient camping atmosphere. This reviewer also mentioned a lack of visible staff, stating they had no interaction with any staff members upon arrival or departure, despite attempting to contact them via voicemail without receiving a response. They observed that the "office," described as a small shed, had limited hours of operation. Additionally, this guest pointed out that while they were informed about cable TV not being included, they were not aware that internet access was also an extra charge, which they found added to the overall cost, making their stay feel less like a bargain. Despite these issues, they did appreciate the campground's proximity to local attractions in Dennis, which contributed to their two-star rating.
In contrast, another guest had a much more positive experience during their seven-night stay and indicated they would definitely return. This reviewer lauded the staff as "wonderful." They recounted an instance where a staff member met them at their site upon arrival to ensure everything was satisfactory and even personally delivered ice to their site before the office closed. They also mentioned a temporary water shut-off for repairs, during which the staff proactively provided free gallons of water to all campers, highlighting the staff's attentiveness to guest needs. This positive review also corroborated the observation that a majority of the campground consists of permanent trailers, which were noted as well-maintained and whose residents were described as friendly. While acknowledging that the sites were a bit smaller than what they were accustomed to, their 28-foot trailer fit without issue. A recommendation was made to bring leveling blocks due to the unevenness of some sites. This guest found the campground conveniently located for their desired activities. They also noted seeing a staff member diligently cleaning the pool daily and mentioned weekend activities for families and kids, including an outdoor movie night, contributing to their fantastic week.
Considering these contrasting experiences, Old Chatham Road Campground appears to offer a community with a significant number of seasonal residents, which could foster a stable and perhaps friendly atmosphere, as suggested by one reviewer. The environment is undoubtedly appealing, situated in South Dennis on Cape Cod, known for its beautiful beaches, charming towns, and various recreational opportunities. The proximity to local places in Dennis, as mentioned by the less satisfied guest, is a definite advantage for those wishing to explore the area.
In terms of services and features, the campground offers campsites that can accommodate RVs up to 28 feet. While the size of the sites might be smaller than some are used to, they are functional. The availability of cable TV is not included in the base price, and internet access is also an additional cost. On the other hand, the positive review highlighted proactive and helpful staff who went above and beyond to assist guests, even delivering ice and providing free water during a temporary service disruption. The presence of a pool that is regularly maintained and weekend family activities, such as outdoor movie nights, suggests that the campground aims to provide some level of recreational amenities, particularly during peak times. The mention of bathhouses, although not personally used by one reviewer, implies their availability for campers who need them.
Based on the information, it seems Old Chatham Road Campground caters to both seasonal residents and short-term travelers. The environment benefits from its Cape Cod location, offering easy access to local attractions. The services appear to include essential utilities (though internet and cable are extra), a pool, and some organized activities on weekends. The staff's responsiveness seems to vary, with one guest experiencing a lack of communication while another praised their attentiveness.
As for promotional information, the positive review serves as an implicit endorsement, highlighting the friendly community, helpful staff, convenient location, and family-friendly activities. For local users searching for "camping near me" on Cape Cod, Old Chatham Road Campground offers a location in South Dennis with access to the region's attractions. The presence of seasonal residents suggests a stable community, which some campers might find appealing. The weekend family activities and pool could be attractive to those traveling with children. However, potential visitors should be aware that a significant portion of the sites are seasonal, and additional costs for internet and cable may apply. It might be beneficial to inquire about the availability of short-term sites and the current level of staff presence, especially if visiting during the shoulder or off-season.
In summary, Old Chatham Road Campground offers a Cape Cod camping experience with a notable presence of seasonal residents. Its location in South Dennis provides convenient access to local attractions. While one review highlighted concerns about staff availability and extra costs for amenities, another praised the helpfulness of the staff and the family-friendly atmosphere. Local users seeking "camping near me" should weigh these perspectives and consider their own preferences for campground atmosphere and desired amenities when deciding if Old Chatham Road Campground is the right fit for their Cape Cod getaway.

Old Chatham Road Campground Reviews
Not thrilled with our experience. First, it seems most of the sites are seasonal. Meaning, most sites have semi-permanent “homes” rather than travelers like ourselves. Not that it’s a bad thing - just NOT what we expected or were looking for. Second, staff were non-existent. Never talked to one since we arrived or left. Not that we didn’t try. We left a voicemail but never received a return call. Now listen, I know it’s off season but really? The “office“ is the size a small shed - rarely saw anybody there. Usually in by 11am and out by 2pm. Third, cable wasn’t included (they told us ahead of time of time). Internet was not included and we had no idea ahead of time. We were not willing to spend the extra amount, because it was not a bargain to stay there to begin with. Won’t be returning anytime soon. I gave it two stars instead of one because we did enjoy the proximity to someLocal places we enjoy in Dennis.
Oct 13, 2023 · John VittnerThis is a great little campground on Cape Cod. We just returned home from a 7 night stay and would definitely come back again. The staff here are wonderful. When we first arrived we went straight to our site. A staff member met us there and made sure everything was good. He even went to the office and delivered a bag of ice right to our site so we could get our camper set up without having to stop to get ice before the office closed in 15 minutes. The water had to be turned off for some repair work and the staff gave free gallons of water to everyone. The water was only turned off for about 1hr so honestly it wasn't and inconvenience but they wanted to make sure everyone was taken care of. While most of the campground is permanent trailers they are well maintained and the full time residents are friendly. I agree with other reviews and the sites are a bit smaller then we are used to in PA but our 28ft trailer fit fine. One thing I do recommend is to bring lots of leveling blocks because the sites are not level. This campground was convenient to everything we wanted to do. I can't really speak about the bathhouses because we use our camper showers and stuff. We didn't use the pool either but I did see a staff member cleaning it every morning and evening. On the weekend they had activities for families and kids including a outdoor movie night. We had a fantastic week!
Jul 24, 2022 · Jason HunnellWe recently spent a weekend here while visiting family on the Cape. It was a perfect location for going out on day trips as there is a lot to do in the area. Easy access to route 6 while towing a trailer. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us when we had a problem checking out on time, for which we are so grateful! It was a very friendly and laid back atmosphere.
Jul 18, 2022 · Britni SweeneyFirst impression is that you've arrived in an old mobile home park with multiple speed bumps. Most of the rigs are stationary year-round. Only a few RV sites are available for visitors. One way paved roads. Very quiet for Oct. Pool was closed but is centrally located along with children play area. Dog bags available near dumpster. Our back in site had a concrete patio and rock yard. Tall trees. Good stopping point in the Cape. Near Hyannis where we had to do our laundry for $4 per washer. No laundry on campground. We had to pick up packages in the local post office as campground does not accept them. We travel park to park through Thousand Trails.3 nights was good to drive the National Seashore and take the ferry to Martha's vineyard
Oct 06, 2021 · Cherie PetersFirst and foremost I feel as though the incredible, hardworking park staff don't get the credit they deserve for helping to maintain the park's cleanliness and positive vibes! It truly starts from the bottom up, it's a shame for the lack of a great foundation in regards to management, as this park would be one, if not the best, I have stayed at thus far. I believe they do their best to accommodate, however i feel being overwhelmed has led to vacancy (management)....I appreciate the camp is authentic, rustic and the years of traditions/memories shared by residents make it even more of a comfortable, warm place to stay/visit.This place is what it is! Im not sure what other expect before arrival, but you can't put a Nickerson State Park in South Dennis, of course it is a small campground and most (if not the entire) Old Chatham Road itself has not changed in decades, so it will be outdated to many because of its surroundings! I live in this same area year around and if this park were to be any larger or any more glorified locals would not be happy, it is unique and i hope it stays that way, truly not much left of that on the Cape...Clean pool and spacious pool area, a kiddoe pool as well! Very kept grounds, and most importantly bathrooms! Very lively with kids, great playground and basketball court as well making it a perfect option for young families. Only real disappointment would be the rec hall and what it entails. No vending machines, no pool table or area to sit and all the gaming machines are out of order. It would be nice for it to be more functional, but I know there is an external company whom handles this? In all, as a local resident I would highly recommend this park to anyone visiting the mid-Cape area. Easy to find and less hustle and bustle, hidden gem by far!
