Old Federal Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Flowery Branch, Georgia area and those searching within the "camping near me" category for a lakeside retreat, Old Federal Campground, located at 6219 Old Federal Rd (zip code 30542), offers a promising setting on the shores of beautiful Lake Lanier. Customer reviews provide a glimpse into the campground's potential, highlighting its beautiful lake setting and the availability of a beach and boat launch. However, one review also raises concerns about tranquility due to non-campground visitors and the need for effective management. Let's explore the environment, potential services, features, and customer feedback to provide a comprehensive overview for local users considering a stay at Old Federal Campground.
The Beautiful Lakeside Environment of Lake Lanier
The most significant environmental feature of Old Federal Campground is its location directly on Lake Lanier. This large and scenic reservoir in North Georgia is a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming, and various other water activities. The review explicitly mentions a "beautiful lake setting from every campsite," suggesting that campers can expect picturesque views of the water and the surrounding natural landscape. Lakeside camping offers a unique opportunity to wake up to the sights and sounds of the lake, enjoy waterfront relaxation, and have easy access to water-based recreation.
The presence of a "beach" indicates that the campground provides a designated area for swimming and enjoying the sandy shores of Lake Lanier. This is a significant amenity, particularly for families and those who enjoy sunbathing and playing by the water. The availability of a "boat launch" is another major advantage, catering to boating enthusiasts who wish to explore the lake, go fishing, or enjoy other activities on the water. The easy access to the lake via a boat launch enhances the appeal for those bringing their own watercraft.
Flowery Branch and the surrounding area in Hall County are known for their natural beauty, and Lake Lanier is a central feature of this region. Camping at Old Federal Campground offers a chance to immerse oneself in this environment, enjoying the lake's tranquility (as intended) and the surrounding woodlands that typically characterize the lake's shoreline.
Potential Services and Amenities at Old Federal Campground
While the provided reviews focus primarily on the environment and lake access, we can infer some potential services and amenities that Old Federal Campground might offer to cater to campers:
- Campsites: Likely offering a variety of sites to accommodate tents and RVs. The specific types of hookups available for RVs (electrical, water, sewer) are not mentioned in the reviews, so it would be essential for RV campers to inquire directly about these.
- Restroom Facilities: Campgrounds generally provide restroom facilities for their guests. The cleanliness and condition of these facilities are not mentioned in the reviews.
- Potable Water: Access to drinking water is a standard requirement for campgrounds.
- Waste Disposal: Areas for campers to dispose of their trash.
- Picnic Tables: The mention of a picnic table at Site 16 suggests that individual campsites are likely equipped with them.
- Fire Pits or Grills: Many campgrounds offer designated areas for campfires or grilling.
- Parking: Space for campers to park their vehicles at or near their campsites.
The positive review mentions that the campground is "getting better as open all year round starting soon," indicating a potential expansion of services or availability that could be beneficial for local campers seeking year-round options.
However, the negative review highlights a significant issue regarding the management's response to non-campground visitors impacting the tranquility and even taking campground property (the picnic table). This suggests a potential need for improved enforcement of campground rules and security to ensure a positive experience for paying guests.
Key Features and the Lake Lanier Setting
The standout features of Old Federal Campground are its:
- Direct access to Lake Lanier: Providing opportunities for a wide range of water activities.
- Beach: A designated area for swimming and lakeside relaxation.
- Boat Launch: Convenient for campers who want to bring their boats onto the lake.
- Beautiful lake setting from every campsite: Offering scenic waterfront views.
- Potential for year-round camping: Expanding its availability for local users.
The negative review, however, underscores a critical point: the management's role in maintaining order and ensuring a pleasant experience for all campers. The influx of "jetskiers not part of the campground" who are impacting tranquility and even taking campground property is a serious concern that potential local users should be aware of. It suggests that while the location has significant potential, the actual experience might be affected by these issues if not adequately addressed by management.
Limited Information on Promotional Offers
The provided information does not include any details about specific promotional offers, discounts, or seasonal packages for Old Federal Campground. Local users interested in staying here should contact the campground directly at (770) 967-6757 or +1 770-967-6757 to inquire about pricing, availability, and any current specials. It's also possible that seasonal rates might apply, especially with the campground potentially moving to year-round operation.
Given the mixed feedback, it might be prudent for local users to also inquire about the management's awareness of and actions taken to address the issues raised in the negative review regarding non-campground visitors and the preservation of a tranquil environment for paying guests.
Connecting with the "Camping Near Me" Category on Lake Lanier
Old Federal Campground offers a local "camping near me" option with a prime location on Lake Lanier, a significant draw for water lovers and those seeking scenic beauty. The availability of a beach and boat launch are valuable features. The potential for year-round camping further enhances its appeal for local getaways throughout the year.
However, the negative customer experience regarding the disruption of tranquility by non-campground visitors and the alleged inaction of management is a serious consideration for potential local users. While the campground has inherent advantages due to its location and amenities, the overall experience could be significantly impacted by these issues.
Local residents considering Old Federal Campground should weigh the positive aspects of the lakefront setting and amenities against the potential drawbacks highlighted in the negative review. Contacting the campground directly to inquire about the management's approach to ensuring a positive and orderly environment for their paying guests is strongly recommended before making a booking. Despite its potential, the actual experience might depend on the management's commitment to addressing the concerns raised by its customers.

Old Federal Campground Reviews
Campground has been taken over by jetskiers killing the tranquility and managers does squat. Site 16 picnic table was stolen by jetskiers not part of the campground and who brought it to the beach. Too bad. Lots of potential but management must ensure order to ensure everyone has a great time.
Apr 19, 2025 · Alex SevyA great campground getting better as open all year round starting soon. Beach and boat launch available. Beautiful lake setting from every campsite.
Mar 22, 2025 · John ThomasGoogle wants a star rating on "Rooms". I can't do that, it's a campground. I will say,the staff was great, invisible, unless we needed something or if a site was being cleaned after someone checked out, which is what you want in a campground. Bathrooms are dated, but clean and nice. Location, wow! What a beautiful place. We had a spot with a great lake view. There's plenty of places close by if you need essentials or want to go out for lunch or dinner. This is a great spot to get away from it all.
Sep 22, 2024 · Lawton LeSueur IIIThis visit was an eye-opener about the beauty and joy you can get from simply being on this camp ground. It has all the amenities for a nice camping trip, showers, laundry, and well-maintained roads to get to your camping spot. You can visit with your camper, rv, or simply tenting is good too. What really blew me away were the views on the water, the sandy beaches and coves. The lake was teeming with activity but never overcrowded. See some of the views I was able to catch and come see for yourself.
Sep 08, 2024 · Markus GeigerI'm someone who always uses their sporadic day off to go camping.Once you make a reservation online, you should receive a call, where they give you the gate code and gladly answer any questions you may have. The office hours for registration are from 10:00 am - 7:00 pm. Once you arrive, park to the side and enter the building to register, and they will give you directions to your camping spot.Old Federal Campground is by far my favorite. The hosts are the kindest people who are protective of their home. You will never have to worry about outsiders or break-ins with them around. My camping spot has all of my favorite things - lapping waves against the rocks, gentle breezes that rustle lightly through the trees, a variety of harmless wildlife all around. From my spot, the sunrise and sunset sparkle beautifully with an array of colors, reflected in harmony on the lake. I also loved the mountain views off into the distance. The bathrooms are spotless, and there is not a single piece of litter to be found on the entire property at any time. The hosts and campground staff take great pride in where they are, and it shows. I want to thank them for such a lovely time, and I can't wait to come back!
