For local residents of Staples, Minnesota, and the surrounding communities seeking a "camping near me" experience that potentially blends natural beauty with unique cultural events, Old Wadena Park & Campground, located at 13491 Old Wadena Cir, Staples, MN 56479, offers an intriguing option. Reachable at (218) 631-7604 or +1 218-631-7604, this location appears to be more than just a traditional campground, hosting events that attract visitors for both overnight stays and day trips. The available reviews highlight a vibrant atmosphere, particularly during special events, alongside the enjoyment of the park itself.
The environment of Old Wadena Park & Campground is likely to be a significant part of its appeal, although specific details about the natural landscape are somewhat limited in the provided reviews. The mention of "park" in the name suggests the presence of green spaces, possibly including trees for shade, open areas for recreation, and perhaps natural features typical of central Minnesota. This could include proximity to lakes, rivers, or forests, offering opportunities for outdoor activities beyond camping itself. The fact that "kids ... really enjoy the park" implies a family-friendly environment with space for children to play and explore. However, without more descriptive information, the exact nature of the park's natural setting remains somewhat speculative.
The reviews provide more specific insights into the services and features, particularly those related to events:
- Event Hosting: Old Wadena Park & Campground appears to be a venue for various events, as evidenced by the enthusiastic reviews of "The Old Wardens Rendezvous." This suggests that a key feature of this location is its ability to host and attract attendees for special occasions.
- Musical Performances: The positive feedback regarding the "phenomenal" music, specifically mentioning the "Purple Hull group from Texas and Nashville," indicates that live musical performances are a part of the event experience at Old Wadena Park & Campground. The description of the music as "Western swing and old time spiritual gospel" played on various instruments suggests a particular genre that might appeal to certain musical tastes.
- Cultural Experiences: The "Old Wardens Rendezvous" is described as "totally authentic!!!" This implies a historical reenactment or a cultural event that offers attendees an immersive experience related to a specific time period or theme. The strong attendance also suggests that these events are well-regarded and popular within the local community.
- Food and Beverage: The mention of "fruit-filled fry bread" being a treat suggests that food vendors or concessions are available during events, adding to the overall experience for visitors.
- Family-Friendly Atmosphere: The comment about kids enjoying the park indicates that the location is welcoming to families and likely offers a safe and engaging environment for children. This could be due to open spaces for play or specific park amenities geared towards younger visitors.
While the reviews focus on the events, we can also infer some standard campground services and features that are likely to be available:
- Campsites: As the name includes "Campground," it is reasonable to assume the presence of designated campsites. These could accommodate tents, RVs, or a combination of both. The nature of the sites (e.g., size, levelness, shade) and the availability of hookups (water, electricity, sewer) for RVs are not specified in the reviews.
- Restroom Facilities: Campgrounds typically provide restroom facilities for guests. The type and cleanliness of these facilities would be important for potential campers.
- Water Access: Access to potable water sources is a standard requirement for campgrounds.
- Trash Disposal: Facilities for the proper disposal of trash are usually provided to maintain the cleanliness of the campground.
However, the limited information means we are missing details about other potential services and features, such as:
- Showers: The availability of shower facilities for campers is not mentioned.
- Fire Rings or Grills: It is unclear if individual campsites are equipped with fire rings for campfires or grills for cooking.
- Picnic Tables: The presence of picnic tables at each campsite is not confirmed.
- Laundry Facilities: For longer stays, laundry facilities can be a significant amenity, but their availability here is unknown.
- Recreational Amenities within the Park: Beyond the open space enjoyed by children, the park might offer other recreational facilities such as playgrounds, sports fields, or trails, but this is not detailed in the reviews.
- Wi-Fi Access: In today's connected world, some campgrounds offer Wi-Fi, but its availability at Old Wadena Park & Campground is unknown.
The reviews primarily focus on positive experiences during events and the enjoyment of the park by children. This suggests that Old Wadena Park & Campground offers a welcoming and engaging environment, particularly when events are taking place. The combination of natural park space with organized cultural and musical events could be a unique feature that sets it apart from more traditional campgrounds. The authenticity of the "Old Wardens Rendezvous" also indicates a commitment to providing high-quality, immersive experiences for attendees.

Nov 21, 2023 · jacquelyn GilmanIt is what it says it is. 😅 It was a nice space for the Old Wadena Rendezvous. The steps leading down to the river was a nice addition. Didn't have much time to explore the rest of the area.
