Orchard Lake Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a family-oriented "camping near me" experience, Orchard Lake Campground, located at 460 Orchard Lake Rd, Saluda, NC 28773, USA, offers a setting geared towards lake activities and outdoor recreation. You can reach them at (828) 749-3901 or +1 828-749-3901 for inquiries and reservations. Based on the customer reviews, this campground presents a mixed picture of quiet enjoyment and some potential inconveniences that local users might want to consider.
One reviewer who stayed at Orchard Lake Campground found it convenient for their visit to Saluda. They noted its generally quiet atmosphere, especially during the early part of the week when they appeared to be among the few short-term visitors alongside permanent campers. The campground seems to have distinct areas, with some appearing dedicated to full-time residents, while sites P1 through 108 are likely intended for short-term stays. This same reviewer observed that another section, sites 109 through 124, appeared "long-term junky" despite being mostly uninhabited during the day, which might be a visual consideration for some local users exploring their "camping near me" options.
Regarding the campsites themselves, this reviewer described them as gravel and tight. They encountered an issue with a nearby tree that prevented them from fully extending their canopy, and the placement of hookups at the rear of the site restricted their ability to pull up further. This suggests that some sites might have limited space and require careful maneuvering, especially for larger rigs. On a positive note, the short-term section (101-108) filled up for the weekend, and these guests were reported to be "pretty quiet." However, the reviewer also mentioned a neighbor with two dogs that barked frequently, indicating that noise from other campers' pets could be a factor.
An environmental aspect highlighted was a loud early morning trash collection, which occurred at 6:30 am, involving the dumping of five dumpsters. While the reviewer understood the necessity of trash disposal, the early hour and noise were noted as "alarming." This is a point local users who value quiet mornings during their "camping near me" experience might want to keep in mind.
Despite these drawbacks, the same reviewer concluded that Orchard Lake Campground "is what it is... it's a family campground for swimming in the lake, kayaking, hiking, and cooking out. It's not a resort." This sets expectations for a more traditional, activity-focused camping experience rather than a luxury retreat. The reviewer also mentioned that the price per night was "very good" and felt it would have been a suitable place to bring their children in the past, underscoring its family-friendly nature.
Another reviewer who stayed in a 35-foot motor home for four days and three nights had a more overwhelmingly positive experience. They "immensely enjoyed" their stay, highlighting activities such as swimming, canoeing, golf, zip-lining, and fishing. They described the campground as "very quiet and peaceful" and stated their intention to return. This positive review also praised the "warm, friendly staff" who made everyone feel welcome.
Considering these differing perspectives, Orchard Lake Campground appears to offer a range of recreational activities centered around the lake, making it attractive for families and those who enjoy water-based activities, hiking, and a generally quieter atmosphere (though with potential exceptions). The staff seems to be a strong point, with one reviewer specifically commending their friendliness. However, potential downsides include tight, gravel campsites, the possibility of noise from other campers' pets, early morning noise from services like trash collection, and the presence of a section that appeared less well-maintained.
For local users seeking "camping near me" with access to a lake for swimming and kayaking, as well as opportunities for hiking and potentially other activities like golf and zip-lining, Orchard Lake Campground in Saluda, NC, is worth considering. The positive feedback regarding the staff and the enjoyment of the activities suggests a pleasant overall experience for many. However, it would be prudent for potential visitors to be aware of the comments about site size, potential noise issues, and the upkeep of certain areas to ensure it aligns with their preferences for their local camping trip.
To get more detailed information about the specific amenities, the layout of the campground, and any current guidelines or promotions, local users are encouraged to contact Orchard Lake Campground directly at (828) 749-3901 or +1 828-749-3901. In conclusion, Orchard Lake Campground offers a family-oriented "camping near me" option with a focus on lake activities, hiking, and a welcoming staff. While some reviews point out areas for potential improvement, the overall sentiment suggests a good value for those looking for a campground with recreational opportunities in a generally quiet setting. Local users interested in swimming, kayaking, hiking, and a family atmosphere should consider giving Orchard Lake Campground a call to learn more.

Orchard Lake Campground Reviews
We came to Saluda for a purpose and stayed at this campground because it was convenient for us. For the most part, it was quiet; however, we were the only ones there from a Monday until Thursday - except for permanent campers. There were two areas to this campground where it appeared to accommodate only full-timers, but sites P1 thru 108 appeared to be for short-term visitors as sites 109 thru 124 (which were in this same section of the campground) were mostly uninhabited during the day yet 'long-term junky'.Sites are gravel and tight. A tree next to our site was so close, we could not extend our canopy but couldn't pull up farther because the hook ups were at the rear of the site. On Friday, the short-term section for campers (101 - 108) were full for the long weekend. The guests were pretty quiet. Our neighbors did have two dogs that barked at us every time we walked out of the camper, any time other visitors walked by, or when the wind blew. Their owners didn't manage them well. There was a pretty alarming incident on Wednesday of our stay where the trash truck arrived at 6:30am to dump all five dumpsters. It has to be done - we understand that much. Just why so early? So loud.It is what it is... it's a family campground for swimming in the lake, kayaking, hiking, and cooking out. It's not a resort. The price per night was very good. I believe we would have brought our children to this campground back in the day.
Apr 19, 2025 · Geema ForeverMy wife and I spent four days and three nights at Orchard Lake Campground. We were in a 35 foot motor home. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Swimming, canoeing golf, zip line and fishing. Very quiet and peaceful. We will go back. The warm, friendly staff made everyone feel welcome! Joseph Dixon Free and Jane Free
Sep 03, 2024 · Joseph FreeI would have given this place a 5 star review but they didn't have a pool. It was only lake swimming. It reminded me of the 80's summer youth camps. They had the floating platform with the slide. They also had canoes, golf, volleyball, soccer, zip lining and more. It was very quiet when we were there. Its really a great place to go if you are just wanting solitude. It was nice to actually hear the birds chirping instead of busyness of a lot of camp grounds.. The staff was super friendly. Just an overall nice place to go.
Jun 26, 2024 · Maria WestLovely campground! Clear directions, nice one way road entrance, friendly staff at the welcome desk, store with essentials if needed, pond with a water slide and canoes to use during the day, outside benches and games, another fishing pond (lots of fishing line does need to be cleaned up), beautiful campsites near the fishing pond (#46 was water front and perfect), well maintained, good water and electricity hook-ups, great wifi all over the campground, dump station upon exit. I stayed here one night and came back for another!
Sep 04, 2024 · Anastasia LucignaniAbsolutely beautiful location! We stayed in one of the cabins, and it was super clean and well equipped (mini fridge, air conditioner, microwave, cutting board, mattresses, porch swing, etc...). The restrooms and showers are also very clean and well maintained. Everyone loved the zip line and slide in the lake. Lastly the staff members we met were all very sweet and friendly.
