Pine Tree Group Camp Introduce
For local users in the Wilmington, Ohio area seeking "camping near me" that can accommodate large groups in a more secluded setting, Pine Tree Group Camp, located in Wilmington, OH 45177, USA, presents an option worth considering. Based on recent customer reviews, this group campsite offers a unique experience away from the main campground, with both advantages and limitations that potential users should be aware of.
The environment of Pine Tree Group Camp is described as "away from the main campground," suggesting a more private and potentially quieter setting for group gatherings. The presence of a 0.6-mile hiking trail that leads down to the lake through the woods indicates that the campground is situated in a natural area with opportunities for exploration and enjoying the surrounding landscape. The terrain is noted as "wide open and flat" with "lots of good tent sites," making it suitable for accommodating a large number of tents. The proximity to the lake also suggests potential for lake-related activities, although direct water access from the campsite itself is not mentioned. One reviewer noted "plenty of parking for a larger group," which is a significant advantage when hosting a substantial number of people. However, the reviews also mention "surprising amount of road noise while fisherman come for late night fishing," indicating that complete tranquility might not always be guaranteed.
In terms of services and facilities at Pine Tree Group Camp, the customer reviews provide specific details:
- No on-site water access: Multiple reviewers explicitly state the absence of water directly at the group campsite. Groups will need to plan accordingly for their water needs. One reviewer mentioned a "10 minute drive around the lake to fill up water jugs at the main campground entrance," indicating that water is available elsewhere in the broader camping area but requires transportation.
- Limited or distant latrine access: There is "no latrine onsite" according to one review. Another mentions a "single latrine a distance away" at the lake, described as a "3 minute walk." A second reviewer noted a "short walk to latrine in the parking lot by the family fishing pond." This suggests that while restroom facilities are available, they are not directly within the group camping area and might be a short walk away, potentially inconvenient for some, especially at night or for those with mobility issues. The "single latrine" comment raises concerns about the adequacy of facilities for a large group.
- Massive fire pit: A notable feature is the "massive fire pit," described as "cool looking." However, one reviewer pointed out that its size "makes cooking over the fire challenging" and "makes sitting around the fire for warmth difficult," suggesting it might not be optimally designed for both cooking and socializing around the fire.
- Two small charcoal grills: The presence of "two charcoal grills" is mentioned, but a reviewer noted they are "way too small to feed a large group if you fill the site to the 50 person capacity." This is an important consideration for groups planning to cook for a large number of people.
- Hiking trail access: The campground offers "quick access to 0.6 mile hiking trail that leads down to the lake through the woods," providing a recreational activity directly accessible from the campsite.
- Fishing area access: One reviewer mentioned "great access to fishing areas," likely referring to the nearby lake or the "family fishing pond" mentioned in relation to the latrine.
- Ample parking: As noted, there is "plenty of parking for a larger group," a significant convenience for group camping.
- No shower house access at the group camp: One review explicitly states "no water or access to the shower house" at the group campsite, further emphasizing the need to utilize facilities at the main campground if showers are required.
The features of Pine Tree Group Camp that make it a potential "camping near me" option for local groups include:
- Secluded location: Being "away from the main campground" offers a more private and potentially quieter experience for group gatherings.
- Large capacity: The campground can clearly accommodate large groups, with one reviewer mentioning a group of 22 and another referencing its suitability for up to 50 people.
- Hiking trail access: The direct access to a 0.6-mile trail provides an easy opportunity for a nature walk to the lake.
- Proximity to fishing: The campground offers good access to fishing areas, likely at the nearby lake or a designated family fishing pond.
- Wide open and flat space: The terrain is well-suited for setting up multiple tents and for group games and activities in the "lots of field space."
- Large fire pit: While posing challenges for cooking and warmth distribution, the massive fire pit can be a visually impressive and central gathering point for the group.
- Ample parking: The availability of plenty of parking simplifies logistics for groups arriving in multiple vehicles.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Pine Tree Group Camp in the provided text. Local users interested in booking this group campsite would likely need to contact the managing entity, which could be a local park authority or a private campground associated with the area near Wilmington, Ohio. Inquiring about group rates, reservation procedures, and any specific rules or regulations for the group camp would be essential. Given the limitations regarding water and restroom facilities at the site itself, it would be wise to clarify the availability and accessibility of these necessities and to plan accordingly.
In conclusion, Pine Tree Group Camp near Wilmington, Ohio, offers a secluded and spacious "camping near me" option for large groups seeking a more private camping experience. The access to a hiking trail and nearby fishing areas are attractive features. However, the significant limitations of no on-site water access and potentially distant or limited latrine facilities are crucial considerations. The massive fire pit and small charcoal grills also present specific challenges for cooking and group warmth. Local users should carefully weigh these pros and cons based on their group's needs and preferences. Direct communication with the campground management is recommended to obtain detailed information about reservations, fees, and to address any concerns regarding the available services and facilities before planning a group camping trip to Pine Tree Group Camp.

Pine Tree Group Camp Reviews
Great group campsite. My group spent the weekend there and it was a great time. As other have said, no water access on site nor is there a latrine onsite. There is one at the lake which is only a 3 minute walk. Plenty of parking for a larger group but single latrine a distance away would be annoying. Quick access to 0.6 mile hiking trail that leads down to the lake through the woods. Firepit is massive which is cool looking but makes cooking over the fire challenging. Also makes sitting around the fire for warmth difficult. Just had to build a bigger fire... Overall great location for a weekend camping spot. Would definitely stay again!

Its great access to fishing areas. Its a 10 minute drive around the lake to fill up water jugs at the main campground entrance. Wide open and flat. Lots of good tent sites. Huge fire pit. Lots of field space for group games. The two charcoal grills are way too small to feed a large group if you fill the site to the 50 person capacity. Surprising amount of road noise while fisherman come for late night fishing.Would definitely go back with a group.
