Plantation Flat Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in a natural and potentially popular setting near Oak City, Utah, Plantation Flat Campground offers a unique experience. Located in the vicinity of Oak City, UT 84649, USA, this campground is described by visitors as serene and fun, situated within groves of tall pine trees and featuring the presence of streams. It's important to note that the camping is primarily dispersed with outhouse facilities, and there are specific considerations regarding water and trash. Based on the available customer reviews, Plantation Flat Campground provides a beautiful, shaded environment with access to recreational trails, making it a noteworthy option for those seeking a more rustic "camping near me" adventure.
The Environment: Serene Pine Forests and Flowing Creeks
Plantation Flat Campground is lauded for its picturesque environment. One reviewer describes it as "serene," surrounded by impressive "100'+ lodgepole pine trees," with the ground covered in soft pine needles, creating a quintessential forest camping atmosphere. The presence of a "spring-fed creek on the side" adds to the tranquility and provides a natural water feature. Another reviewer notes that the campground is located within a "grove of Ponderosa Pines," indicating a mature and shaded woodland. The mention of "a couple streams through the area that are great for little kids" suggests shallow and accessible water sources suitable for children to enjoy safely.
The dispersed nature of the campsites, as mentioned in one review ("All sites are dispersed with an outhouse"), implies that while there are designated areas for camping, they are not in close proximity to each other, potentially offering a greater sense of privacy compared to more developed campgrounds with tightly packed sites. The abundant shade provided by the mature pine trees is highlighted as a significant positive, especially during the hot Utah summers, making it a comfortable "camping near me" option even on warmer days.
Services and Amenities: Back-to-Basics Camping
The customer reviews provide important details about the services and amenities at Plantation Flat Campground, emphasizing a more primitive camping experience:
- Dispersed Campsites: All campsites are spread out, offering a degree of natural separation.
- Outhouse Facilities: The only restroom facility mentioned is an outhouse, indicating a lack of flush toilets or running water at these locations.
- No Running Water: Campers need to bring their own water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
- No Trash Bins: A "pack it in, pack it out" policy is in effect, meaning campers are responsible for taking all their trash with them when they leave.
- Picnic Tables and Fire Pits (Implied): While not explicitly stated, the enjoyment of camping and the mention of dispersed sites in a forest setting often imply the presence of basic amenities like picnic tables and fire pits at individual campsites.
The "first come first serve" nature of the campground, as noted by one reviewer, means that reservations are not typically taken, and campsites are occupied on arrival. This requires planning flexibility and potentially arriving early, especially during peak seasons or weekends, as it is described as "probably the most popular campground in the entire canyon."
Local users searching for "camping near me" who prefer a more developed campground with running water and trash service should be aware of these limitations at Plantation Flat Campground.
Features and Activities: Trails for ATVs and Hiking
Plantation Flat Campground's location offers access to various recreational activities, primarily centered around exploring the natural landscape:
- ATV Trails: The area is described as having "ATV trails all over the place," with some leading to "really pretty overlooks." This makes it a popular destination for ATV enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" with direct trail access.
- Hiking Trails: Some ATV trails dead-end at hiking trails, providing opportunities for those who enjoy exploring on foot. This caters to a dual audience of motorized and non-motorized trail users.
- Streams for Children: The "couple streams through the area that are great for little kids" offer a safe and enjoyable natural play area for families with young children.
- Shade: The grove of Ponderosa Pines provides "a lot of shade," enhancing the comfort of the campsites, especially during hot weather.
- Proximity to Other Camping Spots: If Plantation Flat is full, there are reportedly other "really nice" spots to camp before and after the main grove, offering alternative options in the same general area.
The combination of forest environment, stream access, and nearby trails for both ATVs and hiking makes Plantation Flat Campground appealing to a diverse range of outdoor enthusiasts.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional information, discounts, or special offers for Plantation Flat Campground. As it is a first-come, first-serve campground, there are likely no reservations or pre-booking discounts. Local users interested in any potential fees associated with camping (e.g., for parking or using the outhouse facilities, although typically these are free in dispersed camping areas) should check local regulations or signage upon arrival. Information about any required permits for ATV use on the trails would also be important to obtain from local authorities or the managing agency (likely the US Forest Service, given the forest environment).

Plantation Flat Campground Reviews
Probably the most popular campground in the entire canyon. All sites are dispersed with an outhouse. The area is serene, it is surrounded by 100'+ lodgepole pine trees, the ground is covered in pine needles and spring fed creek on the side.
Jun 13, 2023 · James SeverThis is a fun campground within a grove if Ponderosa Pines. There are a couple streams through the area that are great for little kids. There is a restroom area but no running water or trash bins there so you need to bring in your own water and carry out your trash. As far as I know it is first come first serve and the area offered a lot of shade which was nice. There are as ATV trails all over the place and done lead to done really pretty overlooks. Others dead end at a hiking trail which is great if you like to hike. If there is no room left at Plantation Flat there are spots to camp before and after the grove that are still really nice.
