Poole Knobs Campground Introduce
For local residents searching for "camping near me" that provides spacious campsites and a close connection with nature, Poole Knobs Campground, located at 493 Jones Mill Rd, La Vergne, TN 37086, USA, offers a unique outdoor experience. Situated in Tennessee, this campground is lauded for its roomy sites and abundant wildlife, making it a potentially attractive destination for those seeking a tranquil escape. However, prospective campers should also be aware of certain logistical considerations regarding restroom access and the availability of supplies.
The environment of Poole Knobs Campground is clearly a major draw for visitors. The campsites themselves are described as being spacious, providing a welcome sense of privacy with ample room between neighbors. The fact that all campsites are gravel means that campers, particularly those with RVs or trailers, should come prepared to level their units. However, the benefit of gravel sites is often improved drainage and reduced mud, contributing to a cleaner camping experience overall. The feeling of being "outside" is emphasized, suggesting a natural and immersive setting.
Wildlife enthusiasts will likely appreciate the diverse array of animals that have been spotted within the campground. Sightings include deer, raccoons, armadillos, groundhogs, and various waterfowl. One particularly memorable observation was of a large, white, hairless opossum, sparking curiosity about the local fauna. The presence of a bald eagle nest adds a touch of majestic natural wonder to the area, making it a potentially rewarding location for birdwatching and nature photography.
The campground hosts at Poole Knobs are consistently praised as "excellent," indicating a high level of service and helpfulness for guests. A quiet atmosphere is also noted, which can be a significant advantage for those seeking a peaceful retreat away from the noise of more crowded campgrounds.
In terms of features and services, Poole Knobs Campground primarily focuses on providing the basic infrastructure for camping and access to lake recreation. However, a significant point of consideration raised by a reviewer concerns the location and condition of the restrooms and showers. All three restroom facilities are situated uphill from the main loop of the campground. This means that campers who do not utilize their own camper restrooms or those in primitive camping spots on top of the hill face a potentially inconvenient hike or drive to access these facilities. The reviewer strongly advises against waiting for an emergency due to the time and effort required to reach the restrooms from many campsites. Furthermore, the shape or condition of the restrooms and showers is mentioned as being less than ideal, receiving a rating of three stars or less.
Another practical consideration for campers is the availability of essential supplies like wood and ice. According to one review, these items are not available on-site and must be purchased at a store located approximately 5 miles away. This requires planning ahead for campfires and keeping food and beverages cold.
For those interested in water-based activities, Poole Knobs Campground offers lake recreation as its primary amenity beyond the campsites themselves. The specific types of lake activities available are not detailed, but it can be inferred that opportunities for boating, fishing, or swimming might exist, depending on the lake access and regulations.
The campground caters to various camping styles, including those who prefer a more rustic experience. One reviewer who identifies as a "rustic camper" and uses only hammocks notes that the campsite offers many different kinds of camping spaces, accommodating different preferences beyond traditional tent or RV camping. This suggests a degree of flexibility in site selection to suit individual needs.
Considering the "camping near me" platform category, Poole Knobs Campground offers a compelling option for local users who prioritize spacious campsites, wildlife viewing, and access to lake recreation. The quiet environment and excellent campground hosts are also significant positives. However, potential campers should be fully aware of the uphill location and potentially less-than-ideal condition of the restrooms and showers, as well as the need to travel off-site to purchase wood and ice. Planning accordingly for these logistical aspects will be crucial for a comfortable stay.
No specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in booking a campsite at Poole Knobs Campground should contact them directly at (615) 459-6948 or mobile phone +1 615-459-6948 to inquire about availability, pricing, specific site details, and any rules or regulations. It would also be prudent to ask about the condition of the restrooms and showers to have the most accurate expectations.
In conclusion, Poole Knobs Campground near La Vergne, TN, offers a unique "camping near me" experience characterized by spacious gravel campsites, abundant wildlife sightings, and lake recreation opportunities. The quiet atmosphere and excellent hosts contribute to a pleasant stay. However, the uphill location and potentially less-than-ideal condition of the restrooms and showers, along with the off-site availability of wood and ice, are important factors for potential campers to consider when planning their visit. Despite these drawbacks, the spaciousness of the sites and the natural environment make it a recommended spot for many.

Poole Knobs Campground Reviews
What I give 5 stars...campsites...all gravel so be prepared to level up but love that I have room between me and my neighbor. Pretty roomy... Feel like you are outside. We have seen deer, raccoons, armadillos, a large while hairless opossum...my husband says it was way too big to be a 🐀🐁🐭., groundhogs, plenty of waterfowl, and a bald eagle nest. The campground hosts are excellent. Quiet. Now, what I would give three stars or less...the shape of the rest rooms, showers and be aware of the placement. All three restrooms are a climb up the hill. There are no restrooms around the main loop of the campground...so if you don't use your camper restroom or are not camping in a primitive spot on top of the hill....you are going to have a hike or a drive. Neither will be quick. Don't wait for an emergency! Also as a person who loves to camp..I am just putting this out there, time would be better spent keeping up with restrooms and shower rooms than blowing leaves off the road. Also, basically, lake recreation only
Aug 01, 2024 · Jan BishopI am a rustic camper. My family doesn’t use a tent. We only use hammocks. This campsite offers many different kinds of camping spaces. Though, wood and ice are 5 miles away at the store. This is a recommended spot and I would come again. Thanks! From Michigan.

May 14, 2024 · Brenda ManuelWe only stayed one night. It was a little confusing to find but that was mostly due to our GPS having issues finding the entrance. Great views, very quiet and clean. We camped in spot 22 and it was pretty level.
