Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Illinois, particularly those interested in group camping, Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite in Wayne, IL 60184, USA, offers a unique natural setting. Based on available online reviews, let's delve into the environment, services, and features of this campsite to help you determine if it aligns with your group's needs.
The environment of Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite is frequently described as "beautiful, quiet, and peaceful." Visitors often highlight the natural beauty of the area, suggesting an immersive outdoor experience. One reviewer noted that "this place attracts good vibes," indicating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere among visitors encountered. The cleanliness of the site is also mentioned positively.
The campsite appears particularly well-suited for group camping, as indicated by its name and a review from a Cub Scout group that had a "very good experience" camping overnight. The review specifically mentions Site 2, which was preferred for being "higher and drier after recent rains." This suggests that the campsite offers multiple sites, with varying characteristics to accommodate different conditions. Both sites reportedly have a "convenient gravel road" that can be used with Ranger permission for dropping off trailers and supplies, which would be particularly helpful for groups with equipment.
Site 2 is described as being "surrounded by trees" but located "in a clearing," offering a blend of natural immersion and open sky views, ideal for stargazing without the worry of falling branches during windy conditions. A significant feature appreciated by the Cub Scout group was that "plenty of firewood is included in the permit," simplifying preparations for campfires. Additionally, the fire pit area at Site 2 has "built in seating," enhancing the communal experience around the fire.
However, potential visitors should be aware of some environmental factors mentioned in the reviews. The campsite is located near three railroads, with the closest being about a hundred yards to the north. Consequently, campers should "be prepared for train horns." Furthermore, the campsite is within the flight path of airports, resulting in airplanes flying overhead approximately every 15 minutes. While one reviewer found the airplane noise "definitely easier to ignore," the train horns might be more noticeable.
Regarding facilities, one of the more discussed aspects is the nature of the outhouses, which are described as "very 'primitive'." While they are noted as being "clean in the sense that the surfaces are cared for," visitors should expect "strong odors." Another point to consider is the lack of doors on the toilet stalls, which only have dividers, potentially impacting privacy. Therefore, it's advisable to "plan ahead" if privacy in the outhouses is a concern.
Based on the available information, Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite excels in providing a beautiful and peaceful natural environment suitable for group camping, with practical amenities like included firewood and accessible drop-off for supplies at certain sites. The positive feedback regarding the overall atmosphere and cleanliness suggests a well-maintained and pleasant location. However, potential campers should be prepared for the ambient noise from nearby railroads and overhead airplanes, as well as the primitive nature of the outhouse facilities.
As a platform dedicated to "camping near me," we aim to highlight options that cater to various needs. Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite appears to be an excellent choice for youth groups and others seeking a natural and relatively secluded camping experience in the Wayne, IL area. The inclusion of firewood and the layout of sites like Site 2, with its blend of wooded surroundings and open sky, enhance the appeal for group activities and enjoying the outdoors. While the noise from trains and planes and the primitive outhouses are factors to consider, the overall positive sentiment regarding the beauty and peacefulness of the location, along with the friendly atmosphere, makes it a noteworthy option for those prioritizing a natural group camping experience near Wayne, Illinois.
For local users looking for "camping near me" that can accommodate groups in a scenic setting, Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite offers a blend of natural beauty and practical features for group outings. The quiet and peaceful ambiance, coupled with the included firewood and accessible sites, make it attractive for those prioritizing a nature-focused camping trip. Pratts Wayne Woods Youth Group Campsite Reviews
So beautiful, quiet and peaceful, and clean. Any person we came across was pleasant (read: this place attracts good vibes). Always a good visit.
Sep 16, 2018 · Genevieve _RHWe camped here overnight with our Cub Scouts, and overall, it was a very good experience. We utilized Site 2, as it was higher and drier after recent rains. Both sites have a convenient gravel road that can be used with Ranger permission to drop of a trailer/supplies. Site 2 was surrounded by trees, but is in a clearing, so you can see the night sky, and not worry about falling branches in wind. It was great that plenty of firewood is included in the permit, and the fire pit area has built in seating. As many have said, the site is surrounded by three railroads, with the closest being about a hundred yards to the north. Oct 16, 2023 · Quinten HoogenboomThere is plenty of room for a large group and the sites are tucked away from the rest of the park. A pavilion is located on site if the weather turns or a large group needs to sit together. There is firewood provided too! The only negative would be the proximity to the train tracks and frequency of trains that pass through the night. Otherwise a great place to camp, hike and fish!
Nov 06, 2022 · Dave McCoyPleasant forest preserve. Latrines are kept clean. Enjoyable place to visit during the day. Camping overnight was made difficult by the adjacent train track. Trains blow their horns at all hours of the night making sleep nearly impossible.
Jun 03, 2018 · Heidi PeetersThis is a great youth camping spot. Our Scouts BSA troop felt very welcome. The campsite and park are very well maintained. They drain well, too. In spite of heavy downpours the night before the site was not very muddy. We'll be back.
