One enthusiastic reviewer described their experience as an "amazing adventure!" They highlighted a wide array of activities available, including "trails for walking, hiking, biking, and horsing!" This suggests a diverse natural environment catering to various outdoor pursuits. For relaxation, they mentioned a pool. A unique offering is a hay ride for a nominal fee of $5. The presence of a "wonderful nature center" indicates opportunities for learning about the local flora and fauna. The reviewer also noted the proximity to the "famous Abe Martin lodge w restaurant," which is accessible to the public for dining. For accommodation options beyond traditional camping, "cabins to rent" are available. Water-based activities seem to be centered around Ogle Lake, where fishing is permitted, and the use of boats with trolling motors, row boats, and kayaks is mentioned. The campground offers "all year camping," making it a destination for all seasons. For convenience, there's a "general store for campers needs," and the facilities include "clean bathrooms w showers!" This reviewer concluded by recommending it as "worth the trip."
In contrast, another reviewer focused more on the specifics of the campsites, noting that "Racccoon Ridge Campgroud has mostly basic sites." Their particular site had electric service but was limited to 20 amps and required an extension cord to reach the power box. A significant inconvenience they encountered was that the "dump station did not have fresh water available." They also suggested that "all sites need more gravel and releveled for campers." Furthermore, this reviewer reported a power outage that affected the entire campground on their first day, which lasted approximately 12 hours. Despite these issues, they acknowledged the park's beauty, particularly "in the fall."
Combining these two perspectives, we can outline the environment, services, and features of Raccoon Ridge Campground for local users seeking "camping near me":
- Environment: Situated within a beautiful park-like setting, especially noted for its fall scenery. The area boasts extensive trails suitable for walking, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. There's also Ogle Lake, offering opportunities for fishing and boating (trolling motors, row boats, kayaks). A nature center is present, suggesting a focus on the natural surroundings.
- Services:
- Basic campsites, some with electric hookups (though potentially 20 amps and requiring extension cords).
- A dump station, but reportedly without fresh water access.
- Clean bathrooms with showers.
- A general store for campers' needs.
- All-year camping availability.

The hay ride for $5 could also be considered a promotional offering. For local users looking for "camping near me" with a wide range of recreational options in a natural setting, Raccoon Ridge Campground seems to have a lot to offer.
However, potential campers should also be aware of the issues raised by one reviewer regarding the campsites (leveling, gravel), the 20-amp electric service, and the lack of fresh water at the dump station, as well as the reported power outage. These points suggest that while the overall environment and range of activities are appealing, the infrastructure of the campsites might have some limitations.
For local users considering Raccoon Ridge Campground for their "camping near me" needs, the abundance of activities and the natural beauty of the area are significant draws. If you enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, and exploring nature, this campground seems well-suited. Those with RVs should perhaps inquire about the amperage of the electric hookups at specific sites and the availability of fresh water at the dump station before booking. Contacting the campground directly at (812) 988-6406 or +1 812-988-6406 could provide more detailed information about campsite specifics, cabin rentals, and any current conditions or improvements.

The presence of cabins provides an alternative to traditional camping. While one reviewer highlighted the many attractions and the park's beauty, another pointed out some potential drawbacks related to the campsites' infrastructure and a power outage. Local users should weigh these aspects and consider contacting the campground for more details to ensure it meets their needs for a local camping adventure.

Jul 17, 2023 · Lorenzo WalkieTalkieRacccoon Ridge Campgroud has mostly basic sites. Ours had electric but only 20 amps that needed an extension cord to be able to reach the box. Dump station did not have fresh water available. All sites need more gravel and releveled for campers. Power went out for entire campground on our first day. It was finally restored about 12 hours later. Otherwise, beautiful park in the fall.
Oct 24, 2024 · Clarissa HeadrickI would score as 3.5/5 if I could. The camp store was well stocked and convenient to get firewood. There was a convenient vault toilet and a bathhouse with clean toilets and showers readily available by walking 3-4 minutes, which we solely used. The area is pretty and most of the sites have shade. The sites along the perimeter weren’t level and were not uniform in size (some sites were tiny), which is why I’m taking away stars. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours and it was a peaceful stay. It would be great if they are at least able to level out the sites in the off season. I can imagine some people were rolling down the hill in their tents in some of the sites. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but we would use Taylor Ridge next time we visit.
Sep 20, 2023 · Courtney S.Most sites offer outward views into the woods instead of adjacent campsites. Road end campsites provide the best privacy.
