For those actively seeking "camping near me" that offers an escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, Red Spur Recreation Camp appears to be a haven of tranquility. One enthusiastic camper described it as "So beautiful!" immediately setting the tone for the natural splendor that awaits visitors. The absence of phone service, while potentially a drawback for some, is highlighted as a characteristic of the area, suggesting a true opportunity to disconnect and immerse oneself in the surroundings. The towering trees are specifically mentioned as "amazing," indicating a potentially well-forested area providing shade and a sense of being deep in nature.
The visual experiences at Red Spur Recreation Camp seem to be a major highlight. The reviewer raved about the "Beautiful sunrises and sunsets," suggesting that campers can look forward to spectacular displays of light and color. Furthermore, the night sky is described as incredibly clear, with the Milky Way being visible. This makes Red Spur Recreation Camp an ideal spot for stargazing enthusiasts looking for "camping near me" with minimal light pollution. The presence of bear boxes indicates that wildlife is active in the area, although the reviewer specifically mentioned encountering deer, squirrels, and chipmunks, suggesting a variety of fauna to observe (from a safe distance, utilizing the provided bear boxes for food storage).
For those who enjoy outdoor activities, particularly hiking, Red Spur Recreation Camp seems to offer excellent opportunities. The presence of "Great trails with lots of trees" suggests shaded hikes, which can be particularly appealing during warmer months. The reward for these hikes is described as "incredible" views from the peaks, implying that the campground is situated in a mountainous or hilly region offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. If hiking with stunning viewpoints is a priority when you search for "camping near me," Red Spur Recreation Camp should definitely be on your list.
Another visitor echoed the positive sentiment, calling it "an amazing place to stay for a couple nights." This reinforces the idea that Red Spur Recreation Camp provides a memorable and enjoyable experience for campers. This reviewer also noted that the campground is "well kept and clean with a lot of amenities." This is a crucial piece of information, as it suggests that despite its remote and natural setting, the campground is maintained to a good standard, providing a comfortable and hygienic environment for campers. The mention of "a lot of amenities" is intriguing, although the specific amenities are not detailed in the review. When considering Red Spur Recreation Camp as a potential option for "camping near me," it would be beneficial to inquire about the types of amenities available, such as restroom facilities, water access, fire pits, picnic tables, and potentially even showers or other conveniences.
However, the second reviewer also mentioned a significant logistical consideration: "The only downside is getting up to it. We had a lifted SUV with 4 wheel drive and it took about 1.75 hours." This is a critical piece of information for anyone considering Red Spur Recreation Camp when searching for "camping near me." The extended travel time and the necessity of a lifted SUV with four-wheel drive suggest that the campground might be located in a somewhat remote or rugged area, possibly involving unpaved or challenging road conditions. Potential visitors should carefully consider the accessibility of the campground based on their vehicle type and comfort level with off-road driving. It would be prudent to inquire about the specific road conditions and directions when making a reservation or contacting the campground.
Given the information available, Red Spur Recreation Camp appears to offer a unique and rewarding camping experience for those who value natural beauty, tranquility, stargazing, and hiking. The potential trade-off is the limited phone service and the potentially challenging access to the campground. The fact that it is "well kept and clean with a lot of amenities" suggests that the owners have made efforts to balance the remote setting with camper comfort.
As the reviews do not mention any specific services offered beyond the general upkeep and cleanliness, it would be advisable to ask about services such as trash disposal, water availability at campsites, and any specific rules or regulations for campers. Similarly, no promotional information is provided in the reviews. When contacting Red Spur Recreation Camp, inquire about any current deals, seasonal rates, or discounts for longer stays. Given its appeal for overnight stays as well as potentially longer trips, understanding the pricing structure would be beneficial.

Red Spur Recreation Camp Reviews
So beautiful! There's really no phone service, but the trees are amazing! Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. At night the stars are so clear. You can see the milky way from here. There are bear boxes but we really only encountered deer and squirrels and chipmunks. Great trails with lots of trees provide shaded hikes. The views from the peaks are incredible.
