Rocky Point Campground Introduce
Looking for "camping near me" in Northern California that offers stunning natural beauty and a lakeside experience? Rocky Point Campground, located in Westwood, CA 96137, USA, might be your next favorite getaway. Situated in a picturesque setting, this campground has garnered positive reviews from visitors who appreciate its location and atmosphere. Let's delve into what Rocky Point Campground has to offer local users.
Environment and Location:
Rocky Point Campground is described as "absolutely beautiful," and a standout feature is that "many sites" are located "right on the water line." This strongly suggests a lakeside environment, offering campers the opportunity to enjoy waterfront views and easy access to the water. The mention of it being a "hidden gin" implies a gem of a location that might not be overly crowded despite its popularity. The area around Westwood, CA, is known for its natural beauty, likely featuring forests and the lake itself, contributing to a serene and scenic camping experience.
One reviewer mentioned that "there really isn't a bad spot," indicating that the entire campground benefits from the attractive surroundings. This suggests that even sites not directly on the water still offer a pleasant environment. The overall atmosphere seems to be one of natural beauty and tranquility, making it an appealing destination for those looking to escape into nature.
However, one camper with a "taller/longer rig" noted that "the paths around the grounds are tight, and the trees are not cut back high/far enough," resulting in some scrapes and dings to their vehicle. This is an important consideration for those with larger RVs, suggesting that the campground might be better suited for tents and smaller recreational vehicles.
Services and Facilities:
Rocky Point Campground is a "fast-paced 131 site Campground," indicating a significant number of camping opportunities. It offers practical amenities for a comfortable stay, including "12 comfort stations," which likely encompass restrooms. While there are "no hookups" at the sites, there is a "dump station on site," which is a valuable service for RV campers who are self-contained.
Each campsite is equipped with essential items for a convenient camping experience: a "table," a "fire ring," and a "bear box" for safe food storage, which is crucial in bear country. The presence of "31 first come first serve sites" offers flexibility for those who may not have made reservations or who decide to camp spontaneously.
The reviews also highlight the positive interaction with the staff. One camper noted that "the camp hosts are all so amazing, friendly, and helpful," which can greatly enhance the overall camping experience. This suggests a welcoming and well-managed campground.
Features and Activities:
The primary feature of Rocky Point Campground is its beautiful lakeside location, offering opportunities for water-related activities, although these aren't specified in the reviews. One can imagine possibilities such as swimming, kayaking, or simply enjoying the views of the water. The surrounding area near Westwood, CA, likely offers hiking trails and other outdoor recreational activities typical of Northern California.
The campground itself, with its 131 sites, suggests a community of fellow campers, especially during peak season. The presence of fire rings encourages the traditional camping experience of gathering around a campfire in the evenings.
For those with larger RVs, the tight paths and low-hanging trees might be a concern, as mentioned by one reviewer. However, for tent campers and those with smaller rigs, this seems to be less of an issue and the beauty of the location outweighs this potential drawback.
Promotional Information and Considerations:
For local users searching for "camping near me" that combines natural beauty with essential amenities, Rocky Point Campground near Westwood, CA, appears to be an excellent choice. The repeated emphasis on its beauty and the friendliness of the camp hosts makes it particularly appealing. The availability of many waterfront sites is a significant draw for those who love being close to the water.
Keep in mind that the campground operates on a "fast-paced" basis and has "no hookups," so it's best suited for tent campers and RVers who are prepared to be self-sufficient in terms of power and water. The on-site dump station is a plus for RV travelers.
If you have a larger RV, be aware of the potential for tight paths and low-hanging trees within the campground loops. However, for most campers, the stunning location and the positive atmosphere seem to make Rocky Point Campground a highly recommended destination.
To inquire about availability, especially for the first-come, first-served sites or to get more information about specific site characteristics, you can contact them at (530) 284-1785 or +1 530-284-1785.
In summary, Rocky Point Campground offers a beautiful lakeside camping experience near Westwood, CA. With clean facilities, friendly camp hosts, and many waterfront sites, it's a "hidden gin" for those seeking a natural retreat. While it may present some navigation challenges for very large RVs, it is highly recommended for tent campers and those with smaller rigs looking for a scenic and enjoyable "camping near me" option in Northern California.

Rocky Point Campground Reviews
Absolutely beautiful campground. This is a fast-paced 131 site Campground. 12 comfort stations. 31 first come first serve sites. Many sites right on the water line. Sites include table fire ring bear box. No hookups. Dump station on site. This is an absolute hidden gin.
Apr 19, 2025 · Denny RadfordThis campground is probably one of my favorites. There really isn't a bad spot, in my opinion, and we've stayed in quite a few. The camp hosts are all so amazing, friendly, and helpful. My only complaint, albeit a personal problem, is that the paths around the grounds are tight, and the trees are not cut back high/far enough. Our rig(s) have gotten some good pinstriping, scrapes, and dings driving through some of the loops. Again, one of the downsides to having a little taller/longer rig, not necessarily a "them problem." All in all, I would highly recommend the campground.
Jul 17, 2024 · Joel PotterI want to start out by saying the views and beach of this campground are AMAZING. We have been coming here for years, almost 20 years to be exact. The lady at the front kiosk was still as pleasant as ever. Unfortunately as of this year the “managers” have become very strict about ridiculous things which makes it extremely unenjoyable/stressful and makes it where we do not want to come back again which is very unfortunate. The night we arrived we had several sites booked by various friends/family, a manager came around and told each one that they had to back in. They told us we were good at our pull through site. 2 days later after unpacking and setting up our site a new manager (Chuck) came through and told us we would have to move our trailer as it was back in. We did back in and there is nothing specific on which side you have to back in at our pull through site. He said you agreed to this policy when making reservations which was false, no where on their online policy does it say anything about backing in. Also I have been staying at this specific site for 20+ years and it has never once been an issue. The reason this is even a big deal for me is if our trailer has to be turned around the way they want we are not facing our campsite and we are facing the road. With small children they are still learning about road safety. We do our very best to have eyes on them at all time and teach them safety but having our door facing the road is not ideal. Upon the “Supervisor” Kevin’s arrival he told us we had to move no negotiations, my husband said well can I point some things out and he cut him off and said no non negotiable. He then made a comment about how we would even fit both our vehicles. He was extremely rude and couldn’t even be an adult and hear us out. He also told my husband this was not a pull through site when we brought that to his attention. If you look where the site number is posted you will see where we had backed in at and had to move which is the front of the site as their site post and tag placement is at that side of the pull through. They then called the Sheriff Department to come through and talk to us just because we were questioning their logic and policy as it is not stated online or around their campground and even the Sheriff Department was confused about what we were doing wrong. Be AWARE, these hosts are very picky about every little thing, try to make things up last minute and you will not have your freedom and be harassed in multiple ways while camping. Every other person I talked to outside our party agreed with how rude and unprofessional they were. Just seems like a big power trip to me.
Jun 16, 2024 · TNT Sage FarmOK, whoever is posting about the camp hosts must be breaking ALL the rules. We have been camping 13 years all over. Came here hesitantly after reading the recent reviews. Met both hosts. Chatted. Didn't break rules and have NOT HAD A SINGLE PROBLEM. Go figure. Beautiful spot in #23.
