Almanor Campgrounds Introduce
Seeking a memorable "camping near me" experience in the scenic landscapes of California? Almanor Campgrounds, situated in Canyondam, CA 95923, offers a camping destination with proximity to the beautiful Lake Almanor. This introduction aims to provide local users with a comprehensive and objective overview of Almanor Campgrounds, combining available online reviews to highlight its environment, services, features, and important considerations for potential campers.
The environment surrounding Almanor Campgrounds is a significant draw, with its location near Lake Almanor. One reviewer specifically mentions the "north campground" as being "beautiful and close to the water and beach," describing it as a "hidden gem." This suggests that campers can expect scenic views and convenient access to the lake for various recreational activities. However, it's important to note a crucial piece of information from another review: there was a recent fire in the area, which resulted in a lack of wildlife. While the natural beauty of the lake and surrounding area likely remains, potential campers should be aware of the recent environmental impact. Despite the fire, the proximity to Lake Almanor offers opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, and simply enjoying the lakeside atmosphere.
In terms of services, the reviews provide a mixed but informative picture. The bathrooms are noted to be "very well maintained with a light inside and fresh paint," indicating attention to cleanliness. However, a significant limitation is the absence of sinks and showers within the bathroom facilities. Campers should be prepared for this and plan accordingly for hygiene needs. A water spout is available outside the bathrooms, which provides a source of water for basic needs. The camp host is mentioned as being "nice," suggesting a positive interaction with on-site staff. For waste disposal and other essential campground services, further information is not provided in the reviews, so it would be prudent to inquire directly with Almanor Campgrounds using the provided phone number, (530) 258-2141 or +1 530-258-2141.
The features of the campsites at Almanor Campgrounds include essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit. Notably, the fire pits have grills, which one camper particularly appreciated for cooking. This feature enhances the camping experience, allowing for enjoyable campfire meals. The campsites are described as being "very close to each other," which is an important consideration for campers who value privacy and space between sites. If possible, one reviewer recommends securing spot number 50, as it is the closest to the lake, highlighting a potentially desirable location within the campground. The presence of "plenty of restrooms scattered through the grounds" is a positive feature, suggesting convenient access to toilet facilities throughout the campground.
While the reviews highlight the natural beauty and some of the campground's amenities, they also point out important factors to consider before planning a trip to Almanor Campgrounds. One reviewer strongly advises purchasing all necessary supplies before arriving in the town of Canyondam. They describe the local stores as being overpriced ("rip-off") and mention that the two gas stations did not display prices, potentially leading to unexpectedly high costs. This suggests that while the lake itself is worth visiting, the local town might not offer affordable or convenient options for last-minute camping needs. Therefore, campers should come prepared with all essential gear, food, and fuel.
Additional features mentioned in the reviews include the campground being dog-friendly, with the requirement that pets be kept on leashes. This is a significant advantage for campers who travel with their furry companions. However, one reviewer noted the absence of a playground area, which might be a consideration for families with young children looking for on-site recreational facilities beyond the lake itself.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the available reviews. To inquire about any current promotions, seasonal rates, or special offers at Almanor Campgrounds, it is recommended to contact them directly using the phone number provided. They may have specific deals for certain times of the year or for extended stays. Additionally, it would be beneficial to ask about any potential reopening or restoration efforts following the recent fire and whether any specific areas of the campground or lake access are affected.
In conclusion, Almanor Campgrounds offers a camping experience in a beautiful location near Lake Almanor in Canyondam, CA. Its proximity to the lake, the availability of fire pits with grills, and the pet-friendly policy are attractive features for those seeking "camping near me." The well-maintained restrooms (albeit without sinks or showers) and the presence of picnic tables at each site provide basic comfort. However, potential campers must be aware of the close proximity of campsites and the crucial advice to purchase all necessary supplies before arriving in the local town due to reported high prices. The recent fire and its impact on wildlife are also important considerations. For the most up-to-date information on availability, pricing, potential promotions, and the current condition of the campground and surrounding environment, contacting Almanor Campgrounds directly at (530) 258-2141 or +1 530-258-2141 is highly recommended. Weighing the positive aspects of the location and some of the amenities against the limitations and the advice regarding local supplies will help local users determine if Almanor Campgrounds is the right "camping near me" destination for their next outdoor adventure.

Almanor Campgrounds Reviews
VERY IMPORTANT INFO.These campgrounds were ok. There was a fire recently, so not much wildlife. The bathrooms were very well maintained with a light inside and fresh paint. NO SINK OR SHOWER. Campsites very close to each other. Water spout outside bathrooms. Get spot 50 if you can. It's closest to the lake. The camp host was nice. And I really liked the grills on the fire pit. I made Quesadilla's on mine.NOW before going there or leaving your town, be absolutely sure to purchase everything you need for your trip before coming to this town. It has only a few stores that are a rip-off. The two gas stations didn't have prices on anything, so they could charge however they liked. Single cans of BEER were priced almost 5 dollars more than they should be. The town is not worth the visit. The lake was.I didn't see a playground area. It's dog friendly but the ask that you keep them on leashes. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. And plenty of restrooms scattered through the grounds.

Oct 27, 2024 · Christine TuckerAlmanor is a special place, and the Almanor Campgrounds are hard to beat. On the map, it shows only one campground but actually there are 3 separate Forest Service Campgrounds, with a total of about 120 campsites. There is a free boat launch and a wonderful paved bike trail that goes through all of them and follows the lake shore for 11 miles! Free day use areas with picnic tables, and pet friendly.
Nov 16, 2022 · Elemental ExchangesBeautiful campground. I went to the South. All campsites are huge! Some pit and some flush toilets. No shower. Less than half mile walk to the lake. They always have fireworks every 4th of July. Please support local businesses if you're in the area.
