To provide you with an objective understanding of what North Shore Campground offers, we've compiled information available on the internet, including firsthand accounts from fellow campers. Please note that the following description is based on these publicly available reviews and aims to present a balanced perspective.
Environment and Location:
North Shore Campground is situated in Chester, California, placing it within proximity to the stunning natural beauty of the region, likely near Lake Almanor. The area is known for its backcountry appeal, attracting outdoor enthusiasts seeking a rustic experience. Some reviewers mentioned the campground's dusty environment. While specific details about the natural surroundings directly from the campground's official website are unavailable, the location suggests potential access to outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and exploring the lake.
Services and Amenities:
Based on customer reviews, the amenities at North Shore Campground appear to be somewhat basic. Each campsite is equipped with a water spigot, a picnic table, and what is described as an "anti-bear-box," which is a significant feature for safe food storage in bear country. The campground also offers bathrooms with flushing toilets, which some campers found to be warm. However, access to showers seems to be a point of concern for many visitors. Reviews indicate that showers require tokens, and the token machine only accepts one-dollar bills. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the shower and bathroom facilities has been described negatively by some guests.
One reviewer mentioned the availability of water spigots at each site, which is a convenient amenity for campers. The presence of picnic tables also adds to the functionality of the individual campsites. The inclusion of bear-resistant storage underscores a commitment to safety in an area where wildlife encounters are possible.
Features and Atmosphere:
The atmosphere of North Shore Campground, according to some reviews, is described as "weird" and having a "post-apocalyptic vibe." This impression seems to stem from a mix of what appeared to be full-time campers with unoccupied sites and belongings left behind. This observation might suggest a less transient and perhaps more long-term resident presence within the campground.
Another notable feature, highlighted negatively by a reviewer, is the prevalence of signs with instructions in all capital letters starting with "DO NOT..." This type of signage can contribute to a less welcoming and more rule-oriented atmosphere. The same reviewer also pointed out that the assigned tent site was located directly next to two RVs, even though the campground appeared to be largely empty during the night, suggesting potentially suboptimal site allocation.
One positive feature mentioned was the warmth of the bathrooms and the availability of flushing toilets, although the distance to these facilities from some campsites was noted as inconvenient. Access to the bathroom also requires a code.
Customer Experiences and Promotional Information:
It is crucial to consider the experiences shared by previous visitors to North Shore Campground. Several reviews express significant dissatisfaction with various aspects of the campground. One recurring issue is the state of the showers and bathroom facilities, which were described as "disgusting" and unusable by some guests. This is a significant concern, especially for campers who prioritize hygiene and comfort during their outdoor stays.
Another major point of criticism is the staff's attitude, with one reviewer describing them as "rude" and highlighting a strict "no refunds" policy even when guests chose to leave early due to unsatisfactory conditions. The unfriendly interaction during an after-hours check-in was also noted, particularly the lack of a map provided and the unhelpful instructions on how to locate it.
The pricing for a tent site was considered high by one reviewer, especially given the lack of hot showers (which required extra tokens). The overall sentiment from some reviews suggests a discrepancy between the cost and the quality of the facilities and service provided.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for North Shore Campground based on the provided data. Potential campers would need to contact the campground directly or check online booking platforms for any ongoing offers or discounts.
Summary and Considerations for Local Users:
For local users in the "camping near me" category considering North Shore Campground, it is essential to weigh the provided information carefully. While the campground offers basic amenities like water spigots, picnic tables, and bear-resistant storage at each site, significant concerns have been raised regarding the cleanliness of the showers and bathrooms, the attitude of the staff, and the overall atmosphere of the campground. The requirement for tokens for showers (with a specific payment method) and the potentially inconvenient location of the bathroom facilities are also factors to consider.
The "post-apocalyptic vibe" and the strict, negative signage might detract from the overall camping experience for some visitors. Additionally, the pricing, which was perceived as high by at least one reviewer, should be balanced against the reported quality of the facilities and services.
However, it's also worth noting the positive aspects mentioned, such as the warmth of the bathrooms and the availability of flushing toilets. The presence of essential campsite amenities like water and tables is also a plus. For campers prioritizing basic functionality and proximity to the natural attractions of the Chester area, North Shore Campground might still be an option.
Before making a booking, local users are strongly encouraged to seek more recent reviews or information from other online platforms to get a broader perspective. Contacting the campground directly to inquire about the current state of the facilities, shower policies, and any recent improvements might also be beneficial. Given the concerns raised in the available reviews, it would be prudent to have realistic expectations and perhaps consider alternative campgrounds in the "camping near me" category that may offer a more satisfactory experience based on your individual needs and preferences.
The "camping near me" platform serves as a valuable tool for discovering local options, and by providing detailed, objective information based on real experiences, we aim to empower you to make the best choice for your next camping adventure. Always remember to check for the most up-to-date information and reviews before finalizing your plans.

North Shore Campground Reviews
Booked this campground for 3 nights, in large part for the hot showers. The showers and bathroom facilities are frankly disgusting and not something we would use, nor would our friends who were there with us.The staff was rude and provided the typical "we don't provide refunds" when we told them respectfully we we're leaving after the first night. The campground was a wierd mix of what looked liked full-time campers but mostly no one was occupying the sites that there campers and belongings were left at. This place has a weird post-apocalyptic vibe.North Shore Campground’s attitude is “we don’t give a blank”. It’s a dusty one and done for us. Caveat emptor.
Nov 17, 2024 · Chris McConnellAfter riding motorcycles in the backcountry all day (and 5 days before hand), we were exhausted! We pulled up to the gate around 7 PM. The front office was closed, which was okay, but the gal on the other end of the gate phone call was unfriendly. We called... She said we needed to book online and call back.We booked online and were apalled by the price for a tent site... Assumed it might come with a hot shower?? Nope! The showers take tokens. The token machine only takes one dollar bills. When she told us our site number, she said, "I'd give you a map, but since you came here after the office is closed I can't.""If you need help finding your site, there's a map posted near the front door of the office," would've been more positive. The site she assigned us was directly next to two other RVs... The campground was empty all night. The bathrooms were far. There wasn't a good spot to swim.Every sign was in ALL CAPS and started with the words, "DO NOT..."Each site had a water spigot, table, and anti-bear-box thing! That's good! And the bathrooms, once you made the trek, were warm and had flushing toilets! Don't forget the code to the door.
Sep 25, 2024 · Liss Smolar-MeehanI received a call from a female staff member regarding the placement of our travel trailer. It was brought to my attention that our trailer, which was parked at site 109, needed to be moved to site 108. I explained to the staff member that my bf, who was responsible for the trailer, was working 45 minutes away and would be unable to move it until later that evening after work.Despite my explanation, the staff member was rude and unaccommodating, insisting that the trailer be moved immediately or face being towed. I proposed the option of allowing the new guests to take our site since it was adjacent to theirs, and my bf would relocate the trailer upon his return later that day. However, my suggestion was met with further hostility with the staff member yelling at me that our trailer will be towed if we did not relocate immediately!I inquired as to why there was no communication regarding the placement of the trailer during the check-in process when he initially parked the trailer, nor on Thursday evening, or on Friday evening thereafter while he was present. Nor did any staff call me to alert us of the misplacement on previous days. This lack of prior notification meant that the issue could have been addressed at a more convenient time, avoiding any disruption to our business operations. However, the response I received was the staff member screaming threats to immediately tow the trailer.Ultimately, due to the unreasonable demands and disrespectful behavior exhibited by the staff, my bf was forced to interrupt his workday, costing our small company $875 in earnings. When my bf arrived to move the trailer, the new guests apologized to him saying they never asked for it to be done right away and they were sorry he left work. Why was the staff so utterly disgusting to us?!They refused to provide us with a refund for the nights we did not use.The staff do not manage loud guests at night. The phones are not covered by staff most hours of the day or night. We called 3 times looking for help to reschedule our reservations before we got a return call. We called 6 times trying to get check in details before our arrival, with no answer ever and no return calls. There is no way to check in if you happen to arrive later than the staff decide to stay and gates are all locked. The website, reservation agreement, and voicemail do not have what hours the staff are present. There is no description of gates closing at a certain time either.
May 27, 2024 · MeaganBeautiful campground on an idyllic lake. Lots of nice lake front sites. Amenities are cared for and kept clean.Only downside was the strict no check-in after 10pm. This wasn’t warned about in the reservation email. And since there are electronic gates barring you access this can be stressful for the weary traveler. Also A little overpriced to guarantee a spot.
Jul 31, 2024 · Ben SantizoI’m not even rating this Park a One. It receive no rating. We paid for power and water, which is all they provided at a large amount nightly. The staff are extremely rude and drive thru the park on all customers. But the best part, they have shut our power off every day at the highest peak of the heat. Stating their grid is over exerted. They do not tell customers, they just shut you off. They also shut the one bathroom they gave down. We called to get an explanation and discount on our stay, only to be told we are not accommodating you. End of story. DO NOT book at the Park. Disgusting owners and employees. Clearly they are not concerned about the elderly not having power either! They are horrible.
