Big Sauk Resort Introduce
If you're a local resident in the Sauk Centre, Minnesota area searching for "camping near me," Big Sauk Resort, located at 44155 Old Hwy U.S. 71, Sauk Centre, MN 56378, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While some guests have had positive experiences, others have reported significant issues, particularly with the condition of the cabins. It's important for potential visitors to consider both perspectives when evaluating this local resort for their camping or getaway needs.
One long-time visitor expressed strong positive feelings about Big Sauk Resort, stating, "We love Big Sauk Resort, and have been going there since 2006." This suggests a history of positive experiences and a loyal customer base. The reviewer highlighted that "The place is well kept, and the seasonal are the best," indicating that those with seasonal arrangements are particularly satisfied. They also mentioned a social aspect, noting, "A great place to get away and relax. We love to meet down at the lodge and almost every saturday evening there is music. So come and join us!" This points to a community atmosphere and the added entertainment of live music on Saturday evenings at the lodge, which could be a significant draw for those looking for a lively yet relaxing local getaway.
However, a starkly contrasting review paints a very different picture, specifically concerning the cabin accommodations. This reviewer stated, "If there was a negative rating, I'd give it. Cabin was beyond run down and patched together." They described a negative first impression upon arrival, noting, "Air fresheners and windows all were opened when we arrived- curious what it smelt like before we arrived." This immediately raises concerns about the condition and cleanliness of at least one of the cabins.
Further details from this negative review are quite concerning: "Told we were upgraded....to what? Bugs and spider webs all over the place. Lights didn't work. Holes in the ceiling with tin foil covering them up. We walked in and walked back out. Cabin was worse than disgusting. Very disappointed!" This detailed account suggests a severe lack of maintenance and cleanliness in at least one of the cabins, making it uninhabitable for this particular guest. The fact that they were told they had been "upgraded" makes the situation even more perplexing and disappointing.
The interaction with the owner, as described by this reviewer, was also negative: "Owner didn't even say anything apologetic, just shrugged shoulders and said, ok. Clearly they are used to it! Don't waste your time at this resort." This lack of apology or concern from the owner, according to the reviewer, is troubling and suggests a potential lack of attention to guest satisfaction regarding the cabin conditions.
Considering these two very different perspectives, it's challenging to give a definitive overall assessment without more information about the variety of accommodations offered at Big Sauk Resort (e.g., RV sites, tent areas, different types of cabins). The positive review focuses on the general upkeep of the place and the social aspects, particularly for seasonal guests and the Saturday night music at the lodge. This suggests that the resort might offer a pleasant environment and community for certain types of stays.
On the other hand, the negative review strongly cautions against staying in at least one of the cabins due to its poor condition and cleanliness. This indicates a potential inconsistency in the quality of accommodations available at the resort. Local users considering Big Sauk Resort for "camping near me" should be aware of this discrepancy in experiences.
If you are a local resident interested in Big Sauk Resort, it would be prudent to inquire specifically about the type of accommodation you are considering. If you are planning to bring an RV or a tent, your experience might align more with the positive review that mentions the well-kept grounds. However, if you are considering renting a cabin, it would be wise to ask detailed questions about its condition and recent upkeep to avoid the negative experience described by the other reviewer.
To get more information, you can contact Big Sauk Resort directly at (320) 352-2510 or +1 320-352-2510. You can inquire about the different types of sites and accommodations available, the typical environment of the campground areas versus the cabins, and any recent updates or improvements. Asking about the condition of specific cabins you might be interested in renting would also be a good step.
In conclusion, Big Sauk Resort offers a location near Sauk Centre, MN, with some appealing features like well-maintained grounds (potentially for RV and tent camping) and a lodge that hosts live music on Saturday evenings, fostering a social atmosphere. However, there are significant concerns raised about the poor condition and cleanliness of at least one of the cabins, coupled with a seemingly dismissive response from the owner. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these contrasting experiences and do their due diligence by asking specific questions before booking, especially if considering a cabin rental. If you are primarily interested in RV or tent camping and enjoy a social scene with live music, Big Sauk Resort might still be a viable option. However, caution is advised regarding the cabins based on the strongly negative feedback received.

Aug 15, 2019 · S LStayed there in August and had a terrible experience. Got to talking to some seasonals and they told me to keep my children away from the manager of the campground because he was guilty of molesting underage girls there. Also his son who lives there just got out of Stearns county jail for felony domestic assault before we were there. Stay away!
