Rocky Top Campgrounds Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Smicksburg, PA area, Rocky Top Campgrounds at Smicksburg, PA 16256, USA, has received some feedback from recent visitors that potential campers should be aware of when making their decisions. Based on the information available from online reviews, it appears that this campground may not meet the expectations of all campers.
One reviewer described their experience as the "worst campground I have ever been in." This individual reported driving onto the property and, after a brief ten-minute walk around, decided to leave without staying. Their observations included a lack of visible staff or other individuals, noting that even the trailers present did not seem to have accompanying vehicles. The reviewer also described the internal roads as not being properly developed, consisting of "tiered off areas to drive on the grass" to access water and electric hookups.
Further concerns were raised regarding the condition of some of the campground's structures. The band shell was noted to have trees growing up through its floor, suggesting a lack of maintenance and potential disuse. Similarly, a shelter on the property appeared to have been unused for a significant period, possibly the entire current year, further indicating a state of disrepair. The reviewer also highlighted the campground's perceived remote location, stating it was "a long way from anywhere." Despite these conditions, the quoted price for an overnight stay was $35, which the reviewer felt was entirely unwarranted given the state of the campground. In fact, they stated they would not have stayed even if offered the same amount of money.
Another visitor echoed these negative sentiments, questioning why the location was even listed as a campground. Their experience began with the road leading up to the property, which they described as "very steep & rutted," posing a potential challenge for some vehicles, particularly those towing trailers or RVs. Upon reaching the top, they found only "a few very sketchy campsites," which did not meet their expectations for a comfortable or desirable camping experience. Consequently, this reviewer also made the decision to leave, stating that it "certainly wasn't a place we would want to spend the night!"
Based on these two publicly available reviews, it is important for local users considering "camping near me" and specifically looking at Rocky Top Campgrounds in Smicksburg, PA, to be aware of the potential conditions and lack of amenities reported. The descriptions suggest a campground that may be in a state of disrepair, with limited infrastructure and potentially challenging access. The absence of visible staff and the condition of structures like the band shell and shelter indicate a possible lack of ongoing maintenance and management presence at the time of these reviews.
The informal road system described, consisting of driving on grass to reach hookups, may not be suitable for all types of camping vehicles and could pose difficulties, especially in adverse weather conditions. The steep and rutted access road mentioned by one reviewer could also be a significant factor for those with larger rigs or less experienced drivers.
Furthermore, the perceived remoteness of the location, while potentially offering peace and quiet for some, was seen as a drawback by at least one visitor, especially when coupled with the reported lack of on-site facilities and maintenance. The $35 overnight fee quoted by one reviewer was considered excessive in light of the observed conditions.
Given this information, local users actively searching for "camping near me" in the Smicksburg area may want to consider these recent experiences when evaluating Rocky Top Campgrounds. It would be prudent to seek more current information or potentially explore alternative campgrounds in the vicinity that may offer better maintained facilities, more reliable access, and a more positive overall camping experience. While every campground can have varying experiences, the consistency and severity of the issues raised in these reviews warrant careful consideration by potential visitors.
As there is no additional information provided regarding specific services, features, or any promotional offers for Rocky Top Campgrounds, this introduction is based solely on the two available customer reviews. These reviews paint a picture of a campground that, at the time of their visits, was not meeting the basic expectations of campers in terms of maintenance, infrastructure, and overall value. Therefore, local users are advised to proceed with caution and seek further information before making a booking at Rocky Top Campgrounds.

Rocky Top Campgrounds Reviews
Worst campground I have ever been in. Walked around for 10 minutes and drove out. No one there, not even a vehicle with the trailers that are there. No real road, just some tiered off areas to drive on the grass and hook up to water and electric. The band shell has trees growing up through the floor, the shelter hasn't been used this year probably. It is run down and a long way from anywhere. And he wanted $35 to spend the night!! I wouldn't have stayed there if he had paid ME the $35!!
Jul 27, 2018 · Judi SmithWhy is this place even listed as a campground? The road leading up to it was very steep & rutted. And at the top a few very sketchy campsites. We left, as it certainly wasn't a place we would want to spend the night!
