They appear to be out of business. We stopped to use the ramp to launch our kayak and I tried the office but it was long deserted. Another couple who were there launching their canoe said the same thing. Very sad, it is a great place to launch canoes and kayaks. We were willing to pay if they would have had a drop box. - Doug Sumner

Schleicher's Landing Introduce

For local residents searching for 'camping near me' in the Cassville, Wisconsin area, Schleicher's Landing, located at 7110 Closing Dam Rd, Cassville, WI 53806, USA, is listed as a potential option. They can be contacted at (608) 725-5216 or +1 608-725-5216. However, recent feedback from individuals who have visited the location presents a concerning picture, suggesting that the campground may no longer be operational or may offer a significantly subpar experience.

One of the most alarming pieces of feedback comes from a user who attempted to use the boat ramp for launching a kayak. They reported that the office appeared "long deserted" and that another couple launching a canoe had a similar experience. This strongly suggests that Schleicher's Landing might be out of business. The user also noted that it was a "great place to launch canoes and kayaks" and expressed disappointment at the apparent closure, indicating a willingness to pay for the service if a payment method, such as a drop box, were available. This review raises serious doubts about the current operational status of the facility.

Adding to these concerns is a detailed account from another visitor who did manage to interact with the owner and stay in one of the cabins. Their experience was overwhelmingly negative, highlighting several critical issues. The arrival at the campground involved crossing train tracks, which immediately sets the stage for a potentially noisy environment. Upon check-in, the owner informed them that only cash or check were accepted, a significant inconvenience for modern travelers who primarily rely on credit or debit cards. The reviewer, who had not carried a checkbook in ten years, was fortunate to have enough cash on hand but was left with very little for their stay.

The location of the cabin assigned to the reviewer was also a major problem. Situated less than 100 feet from the train tracks, the cabin was subjected to frequent high-speed trains passing by. The reviewer described the trains as traveling at 50 mph, causing the entire cabin to shake and producing intense noise for extended periods (60-120 seconds), including during the middle of the night. These disturbances occurred multiple times throughout their stay, severely impacting their ability to rest and relax.

The condition and amenities of the cabin itself were also far from satisfactory. The door did not shut properly due to warping, and, crucially, the cabin could not be locked, raising significant security concerns for the occupants. Furthermore, essential features expected at a campground or cabin rental were missing. There was no individual fire pit for the cabin, limiting the ability to enjoy campfires. Basic kitchen amenities were also lacking, with no regular pot or Keurig coffeemaker provided.

Adding insult to injury, the availability of air conditioning was contingent on a coin-operated system, requiring guests to pay a quarter for every hour and fifteen minutes of use. This unusual and potentially inconvenient arrangement further detracts from the overall experience.

The sleeping arrangements in the cabin were also problematic. The cabin had two bedrooms, but one "door" was merely a curtain, offering little privacy. Both beds were double-sized and described as "super firm," which may not be comfortable for all sleepers. The reviewer, who is tall, also noted that they did not fit comfortably on the bed.

Despite the numerous issues, the reviewer attempted to make the most of their stay due to it being their anniversary. However, they concluded by describing their experience as a "train wreck of a cabin and location," a strong and unambiguous condemnation of the lodging and its proximity to the active train line.

Considering these two recent reviews, local users searching for 'camping near me' should be extremely cautious about Schleicher's Landing. The first review strongly suggests that the campground may be closed for business, rendering it unavailable for any camping or recreational activities. The second review, while describing a stay that did occur, paints a picture of dilapidated and insecure cabins, significant noise pollution from nearby trains, a lack of essential amenities, an inconvenient payment policy, and a generally unpleasant environment.

There is no positive feedback or any indication of appealing features that might outweigh these serious concerns. The proximity to a boat launch for kayaks and canoes was mentioned as a potential positive, but the apparent closure makes even this unusable. The lack of basic amenities, security issues with the cabins, and the disruptive train noise make it difficult to recommend this location for any type of camping or lodging.

For local residents seeking a reliable and enjoyable camping experience, exploring other options in the Cassville or surrounding areas would be a much safer bet. It is advisable to look for campgrounds with recent positive reviews that mention well-maintained facilities, helpful staff, and a peaceful environment. Contacting potential campgrounds directly to inquire about their current operational status, payment methods, and amenities is always a good practice.

In conclusion, based on the very concerning recent reviews, Schleicher's Landing appears to be either out of business or offering a severely compromised camping and lodging experience. Local users searching for 'camping near me' in Cassville, WI, should likely avoid this location due to the strong indications of closure and the overwhelmingly negative reports of noise, poor facilities, and security issues. It would be prudent to seek alternative campgrounds that offer a more reliable and enjoyable outdoor experience.
