The environment surrounding Snyder Guard Station is undoubtedly a significant part of its appeal. Situated near Big Piney, Wyoming, you can expect to be immersed in the natural beauty of the region. While specific details about the immediate surroundings aren't extensively detailed, the proximity to national forest land suggests access to vast stretches of wilderness, opportunities for hiking, and exploration. The reviews mention "lots of area to explore by foot or vehicle," indicating a rich and diverse landscape waiting to be discovered.
Based on customer experiences, the Snyder Guard Station offers a blend of rustic charm and some welcome modern conveniences. It's described as "definitely rustic with some modern perks," including a propane heater, stove, lighting, and furniture. However, it's important to note that the cabin's facilities have evolved over time. One reviewer mentioned that the cabin "used to have well water and electricity but no more." Currently, the cabin is equipped with a propane heater and propane lanterns for lighting. It's crucial to be prepared for these conditions. One visitor noted that only one kitchen lantern was working during their stay, highlighting the importance of bringing backup lighting sources.
A key feature of the Snyder Guard Station is the provision of a propane stove for cooking. This allows for preparing meals beyond simple campfire fare, adding to the convenience of your stay. However, a crucial tip from a recent visitor is to "make sure to bring a grill lighter or two" as one might not be readily available. This emphasizes the need for some self-sufficiency when staying at this rustic cabin.
Sanitation is provided through a pit toilet. While one reviewer found it to be "clean," they also noted it was "short on paper," underscoring the necessity of bringing your own toilet paper. Another visitor reiterated this, stating, "make sure to bring...some extra toilet paper as there was none in the bathroom." This is a critical piece of information for anyone planning a visit.
Access to the Snyder Guard Station is via a road from Big Piney. One reviewer described it as "a little rough but anything with a little clearance can make it fine." This suggests that while a high-clearance vehicle might be ideal, most standard vehicles should be able to navigate the road with caution. It's always advisable to check road conditions, especially during inclement weather, before your trip.
In terms of promotional information, none was explicitly provided in the reviews. As a Forest Service rental, booking information and availability are typically managed through official government recreation websites or by contacting the Forest Service directly. Snyder Guard Station Reviews
Nice relaxing weekend getaway. Love that the Forest service rents these cabins out. Definitely rustic with some modern perks (propane heater, stove, lighting, furniture). The pit toilet was clean (though short on paper). There was quite a bit of through traffic but nothing crazy.
Sep 05, 2021 · Geanna GrangerGreat place to get away and relax. The cabin used to have well water and electricity but no more. Now it is equipped with a propane heater and propane lanterns. Only one in the kitchen worked during our visit. Make sure to bring a grill lighter or two. And some extra toilet paper as there was none in the bathroom. There was some in the cabin and we left some extra. The road in from big piney is a little rough but anything with a little clearance can make it fine. Lots of area to explore by foot or vehicle!
