La Barge Guard Station Introduce
Are you a local adventurer in search of exceptional "camping near me" options that go beyond traditional campgrounds? Do you dream of a cozy cabin nestled in a picturesque mountain setting, offering stunning views and a chance to reconnect with nature? La Barge Guard Station, located at Forest Rd 10077, Wyoming, USA, might be the perfect retreat for you. While the address itself points to a remote and natural environment, reviews from past visitors offer valuable insights into what this unique camping cabin experience entails. For booking information, you can contact them at (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777.
One recurring theme in the reviews is the remarkable beauty of the location. Described as being situated in "one of the most lovely places on earth," La Barge Guard Station promises breathtaking scenery that captivates visitors. According to a friendly local who frequents the area during winter, this guard station boasts "the best views of any of the guard stations in the area." Imagine waking up to panoramic vistas of the Wyoming landscape, with opportunities for photography, nature observation, and simply soaking in the tranquility of your surroundings. This alone makes La Barge Guard Station a compelling option for those seeking a visually stunning "camping near me" experience.
The cabin itself is described as a "nice little cabin," suggesting a cozy and perhaps rustic charm. One reviewer, a repeat visitor for four years, highlights its appeal, indicating a consistent positive experience that keeps them returning. This speaks volumes about the cabin's comfort and the overall allure of the location. The presence of a "propane furnace" is also noted as a significant benefit, especially for visits during colder weather, ensuring a warm and comfortable interior even as the mountain temperatures drop. This extends the usability of the cabin into the shoulder seasons, offering a cozy escape when other "camping near me" options might be less appealing due to the cold.
However, it's important to be aware of some of the more rustic aspects of staying at La Barge Guard Station, particularly concerning water availability. Visitors during the late season, when the water has been turned off, face the challenge of dishwashing and cleanup without running water inside the cabin. The reviewer notes that the water in a nearby streamlet is clear and cold, providing a natural source for these needs, but it does require a bit more effort and planning. This adds a touch of self-sufficiency to the experience, appealing to those who enjoy a more traditional and off-grid style of "camping near me."
Another aspect of the rustic experience is the "short walk to the outside privy," which serves as the toilet facility. The reviewer assures that it is "kept in good order," indicating that while it's an outdoor facility, it is maintained for cleanliness and usability. This is a common feature of more remote cabins and guard stations, and while it might not offer the convenience of an indoor bathroom, it is a part of the overall wilderness experience.
Parking at La Barge Guard Station seems to be ample, with "good parking" available. This is a practical consideration for those driving their own vehicles, especially when bringing camping gear and supplies. The mention of "room for family activities" suggests that the area around the cabin offers space for outdoor games, relaxation, and enjoying time together as a family. This makes it a potentially attractive option for families seeking "camping near me" that provides space for children to play and explore.
While the scenery receives high praise, one reviewer's experience with fishing in late July 2018 was negative, attributing it to a damming of the river that resulted in poisoned fish. It's crucial to note that this was a specific instance in the past, and the fishing conditions may have improved since then. However, for local users specifically looking for "camping near me" with guaranteed good fishing, it might be wise to inquire about the current state of the river and fish population before planning a trip primarily for angling. The reviewer themselves suggested Scaler Guard Station as an alternative for better fishing, albeit at the cost of running water and with a more remote location.
Another significant environmental factor mentioned was the presence of "absolutely awful" mosquitoes and flies during the reviewer's stay in late July. This highlights the importance of being prepared for insects, especially during the warmer months, by bringing insect repellent (as the reviewer thankfully did). Depending on the time of year, insect activity can vary greatly in mountain environments, and it's always prudent to pack accordingly when considering "camping near me" in natural settings.
In summary, La Barge Guard Station offers a unique "camping near me" experience for local users seeking breathtaking mountain views and a rustic cabin stay in Wyoming. The cabin itself is described as cozy and well-equipped with a propane furnace for colder weather. While running water inside the cabin might be unavailable during certain times of the year, and the toilet is an outside privy, the overall charm and the stunning natural surroundings seem to outweigh these inconveniences for many visitors, with one family returning for their fourth stay. The ample parking and space for family activities add to its appeal. However, potential visitors should be aware of the possibility of seasonal insect issues and should inquire about current fishing conditions if that is a primary interest. If you are looking for a tranquil escape with unparalleled scenery and are comfortable with a more self-sufficient style of "camping near me," La Barge Guard Station could be your ideal mountain retreat.

La Barge Guard Station Reviews
We will be going back to the cabin next month for our 4th time. It's a nice little cabin placed in one of the most lovely places on earth. We usually visit late in the season, after the water has been turned off. This makes dish washing and clean up more of a challenge (but water in the nearby streamlet is clear and cold) and you must take the short walk to the outside privy, which is kept in good order. There is good parking and room for family activities. The propane furnace is a godsend in cold weather.
Sep 12, 2021 · Vernon D. ColeThis place has fantastic views, according to one of the friendly locals that frequents the area during winter, it has the best views of any of the guard stations in the area. The fishing, at least when I went in late July 2018, was no good. The river had been dammed up and the fish were poisoned and had yet to recover. During my stay the mosquitoes and flies were absolutely awful, but it was worth it for the scenery.(thank God for Off)If you want some still great scenery and good fishing I would advise going to Scaler Guard Station. This will be at the cost of running water but the cabin itself is far nicer and it is much more remote with no cars going by. Also unlike La Barge the mosquitoes and flies were long gone.If you have any questions about the place let me know on here and Ill answer them as best as I can.
Jul 27, 2018 · Aaron BarryWe have made this a yearly destination when we need some time away. Lovely valley we enjoy visiting at the beginning of fall. Usually delighted with birds, chipmunks, and have enjoyed the company of moose, the queens and kings of the willow bottoms.
