Georgetown Canyon Rd, Montpelier, ID 83254, USA

4.0
Great place to camp but bring an ATV or something because there isn't a whole lot to do in this area otherwise. We camped herd just to try out pulling a camping trailer. It was a great first experience for us. Roads were well maintained. Never saw the camp hosts. We stayed in campsite #19. Not as much shade in this one but it does offer a bit more space between neighbors. - Mike Green

Summit View Campground Introduce

Are you a local resident in the Idaho or surrounding areas seeking "camping near me" that offers a blend of natural beauty, spacious campsites, and opportunities for outdoor recreation? Summit View Campground, located on Georgetown Canyon Rd in Montpelier, ID 83254, USA, presents an appealing option for those looking to escape into a scenic environment. While specific details about amenities and services are limited in the provided reviews, the feedback offers valuable insights into the campground's environment and features. You can reach them at (435) 245-6521 or +1 435-245-6521 for any direct inquiries.

The environment of Summit View Campground is consistently described as "very pretty" with "trees everywhere," suggesting a well-forested setting that provides natural beauty and ample shade in many campsites. One reviewer who stayed at campsite #1 specifically mentioned "trees on both sides" and "plenty of shade," highlighting the desirability of these sites, especially during warmer months. The abundance of trees contributes to a tranquil and picturesque atmosphere, enhancing the overall "camping near me" experience for those who appreciate being surrounded by nature.

A significant feature of Summit View Campground, based on visitor feedback, is the spaciousness of the campsites. One reviewer who stayed at campsite #19 noted that it offered "a bit more space between neighbors" compared to other sites, even though it had "not as much shade." Another camper in campsite #1, a pull-through site large enough to fit two trailers, also praised how "spaced the camp sites were," noting that they "didn't feel like we could hear much of others around us." This emphasis on privacy and space between campsites is a major draw for those seeking a more secluded and peaceful "camping near me" experience, allowing for relaxation without feeling crowded.

While the campground itself offers a serene environment, one reviewer suggested that bringing an ATV or similar vehicle might be beneficial as "there isn't a whole lot to do in this area otherwise." This implies that the immediate vicinity of the campground might be more focused on the natural setting rather than developed attractions. However, the well-maintained roads mentioned by the same reviewer make it accessible for those looking to explore the surrounding area with off-road vehicles. The presence of "Lots of ATVs going around" during the 4th of July weekend further supports the idea that ATV riding is a popular activity in the area, potentially offering local users an adventurous way to experience the landscape beyond the campground itself.

For those primarily seeking a peaceful camping experience, the reviews indicate that despite the presence of ATVs, it "didn't seem overly crazy" even during a busy holiday weekend. This suggests that while ATV enthusiasts may frequent the area, it doesn't necessarily detract significantly from the overall tranquility of the campground itself, particularly within the individual campsites.

In terms of services and amenities directly at the campground, the provided reviews offer limited information. One reviewer mentioned that they "Never saw the camp hosts," which could imply that the campground is either self-service or that the hosts are not highly visible. This might be a consideration for campers who prefer more readily available on-site assistance. The reviews do not mention the availability of restrooms, water hookups, electrical hookups, or dump stations. Therefore, local users planning to camp here should be prepared for a more rustic experience and potentially need to be self-contained in terms of water and waste management, unless further information can be obtained from the campground directly.

One interesting observation about the environment is the variable weather, with one reviewer noting, "The weather changes a lot. Sunny one minute, raining (for five minutes) the next." This suggests that campers should be prepared for sudden shifts in weather conditions, even during seemingly stable periods. The temperature in July was described as "great—can't beat low to mid 70's," indicating pleasant summer camping conditions.

The campground appears to offer a variety of campsite types, including standard sites and "group/double sites that were nicely sized." This makes it a potentially good option for both individual families and larger groups looking for "camping near me" that can accommodate multiple camping units. The pull-through site mentioned (#1) is a convenient feature for those with trailers, making setup and departure easier.

Given the limited information on specific amenities and services, local users interested in Summit View Campground should consider contacting them directly at the provided phone number to inquire about: the availability of water, restrooms, hookups (if any), dump stations, the presence of camp hosts, any specific rules or regulations, and whether reservations are accepted (though the first review suggests it might be first-come, first-served). Understanding these details will help ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable "camping near me" experience.

In conclusion, Summit View Campground near Montpelier, ID, offers a scenic and spacious camping environment characterized by abundant trees and well-separated campsites. It appears to be a tranquil location that serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding area, with ATV riding being a popular local activity. While specific amenities at the campground are not detailed in the reviews, the natural beauty and spaciousness of the sites make it an attractive option for those seeking a peaceful "camping near me" experience in a lovely Idaho setting. Local campers should be prepared for potentially variable weather and consider bringing an ATV to explore the wider area. Contacting the campground directly for more information on amenities and services is recommended to ensure a comfortable and well-planned trip.
