Son's Island Getaways Introduce
For local residents in Texas seeking a refreshing "camping near me" experience centered around a river environment, Son's Island Getaways, located at 9301 FM725, McQueeney, TX 78123, USA, presents an intriguing option. With contact phone numbers (877) 577-7667 and +1 877-577-7667, this getaway spot appears to emphasize riverside recreation, particularly tubing and enjoying the water with family and friends. However, it's important for prospective visitors to be aware of ongoing construction that may impact their experience.
The environment of Son's Island Getaways is clearly defined by its proximity to a river, likely the Guadalupe River, given the location in McQueeney, Texas, which is situated along this popular waterway. The reviews highlight the scenic surroundings, suggesting a natural and potentially picturesque setting. The focus on tubing and hanging out in the water indicates easy access to the river and its banks. Visitors can likely expect a riparian environment with trees lining the riverbanks, providing shade and a natural backdrop for their activities. The "pictures of what surrounds you" mentioned in a review further imply an appealing natural landscape that contributes to the overall experience.
While specific details about the types of accommodations available at Son's Island Getaways are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, the name "Island Getaways" might suggest a variety of options, possibly including cabins, glamping tents, or designated areas for traditional camping. The primary feature seems to be the direct access to the river, which serves as the central hub for recreation and relaxation. The positive comment about it being "always a great place to go and hang out with family and friends and tube down the river or just hang in the water" underscores the importance of this natural amenity.
The services and facilities at Son's Island Getaways are not detailed in the reviews, but we can infer some likely offerings based on the nature of a river-focused getaway. These might include designated access points to the river for tubing, swimming, and launching personal watercraft. The mention of it being a place to "hang out with family and friends" suggests communal areas or spaces that facilitate group gatherings. Depending on the level of development, there might be picnic areas, restroom facilities, and possibly equipment rentals for activities like tubing. However, the ongoing construction mentioned in a review indicates that the facilities may be in the process of being upgraded or expanded, which could mean some amenities are currently limited or unavailable.
A significant feature, as highlighted by a recurring positive sentiment, is the opportunity for river tubing. The Guadalupe River in this region is a popular destination for this activity, attracting locals and tourists alike. Son's Island Getaways seems to capitalize on this by providing easy access to the river for tubing excursions. The ability to "just hang in the water" also suggests areas suitable for swimming and general water enjoyment. These water-based activities are likely the primary draw for those considering Son's Island Getaways as their "camping near me" option.
However, a crucial piece of information from the reviews is the ongoing construction at the property. One reviewer explicitly states, "construction is currently going on. So you might hear noise and some places might be off limits." Another expresses a desire to "visit again when place is completely finished." This indicates that while the natural scenery and river access are appealing, the overall experience might currently be affected by construction activities. Potential visitors should be prepared for possible noise disruptions and limited access to certain areas of the property. It would be prudent to inquire about the specific nature and extent of the construction when making a booking or seeking more information.
Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not contain any specific offers. To learn about any current specials, discounts related to the construction, or future promotions once the development is complete, it is recommended to contact Son's Island Getaways directly using the provided phone numbers: (877) 577-7667 or +1 877-577-7667. Their website or social media presence, if available, might also provide updates on the construction progress and any special deals being offered. Given the ongoing work, they might have adjusted rates or specific advisories for potential guests.
In conclusion, Son's Island Getaways near McQueeney, TX, offers a riverside camping experience with a strong emphasis on enjoying the Guadalupe River through activities like tubing and swimming. The natural scenery appears to be a significant draw for visitors. However, it is essential for local users searching for "camping near me" to be aware of the ongoing construction at the property, which may result in noise and limited access to certain areas. While the potential for a great river getaway is evident, prospective guests should seek current updates on the construction status and any related impacts on the guest experience before planning their visit.

Oct 13, 2021 · Mauricio MoraThe weekend we went it rained and although the terms say they do rain checks it’s up to the discretion of Sons if they will allow the rain check. In my case they did not since it would stop later that afternoon. Bummer. The employees are nice. The tent itself was nice, and spacious. We stayed at the safari cabins because the bird house cabins were booked. The safari cabins do not have inside restrooms. I did not enjoy the small showers/restroom outside of the tents for use. For one the size, two the water gets cold while showering, and there is constantly water on the floor which is right next to the toilet so your not sure if it’s water or pee! The kayaking, paddle boarding and cabanas are nice a there is enough for use since it was not packed due to the weather. The pools are clean but they are not heated as advertised not even the hot tubs. They have four hot tubs and only one was hot. The kids didn’t care an enjoyed it anyway. The game room could use some updating. The pool table is broken and there is not much else in there. Over all it was nice, with lots to do if you like outdoors. I would go back for the price but I would plan in the summer vs spring! Oh an I would book the bird cabin.
Mar 20, 2024 · Karla cervantesMy family and I will no longer be staying with any son’s island locations. We have had a variety of issues during our stays. Lack of cleanliness, the bathrooms have no A/C and either had freezing cold water or extremely hot water, most of the bathroom doors do not latch, we had a rat come into our tent and eat through some of our food (we have a video of it), we had ants in one of our beds, rusted utensils, they allowed neighboring campers to play loud karaoke through the night. Despite all of those issues we tried to look past and give it a shot at another location in their waterfront cabins. Our final straw was with our upcoming stay. The reservation department is extremely unaccommodating and unprofessional. We have a large group staying. Half the group is arriving on Sunday. We are arriving Monday. We asked if it was possible for us to arrive an hour early after our long drive so we could have lunch with our family at their picnic table while we wait for the 3:30 check in for our cabin. We were told that we could only arrive onsite an hour early if we paid a $20/person fee. So $120 fee for an hour early. We already paid over $700 for our 2 night stay. I understand they have policies in place, but when I asked for a supervisor to give feedback on our experiences the reservations manager, Kiana, refused to give me her supervisor’s information. She then proceeded to put words into my mouth. She stated “we have policies that I have to follow and your just upset they don’t suit your needs. You just want special treatment”and I started to say “I respect that, but I would still like to speak with upper management so I can give my feedback”, but she cut me off and said “but you just don’t care” and hung up on me. It was extremely unprofessional. I am looking forward to a conversation with upper management in regards to our experience.
