Springmaid Mountain Campground Introduce
For local users searching within the 'camping near me' category, Springmaid Mountain Campground, located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, offers a unique blend of natural beauty and diverse activities. Situated in the picturesque mountain region, this campground appears to be more than just a place to pitch a tent or park an RV; it offers a retreat-like atmosphere with access to a river for recreation, cabin rentals, and even equestrian activities. While one review points out an area for potential improvement, the overall sentiment suggests a beautiful location with friendly staff and a memorable experience for many visitors.
The environment surrounding Springmaid Mountain Campground in Spruce Pine, NC, is clearly a major highlight. The reviews emphasize the "beautiful campground" and "truly beautiful grounds." Its location provides access to a river that is described as "clean and beautiful," offering opportunities for recreational activities such as tubing, with a trail mentioned for easy access. The lush mountain scenery typical of western North Carolina likely envelops the campground, providing a serene and natural backdrop for a getaway. One enthusiastic reviewer even likened the experience to being in "heaven," indicating a truly captivating natural setting. The presence of horseback riding activities further suggests expansive grounds with trails that wind through the scenic landscape, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the area.
The services offered at Springmaid Mountain Campground appear to cater to a range of accommodation preferences and recreational interests. The mention of "cabins" indicates that guests have options beyond traditional tent or RV camping, offering a more comfortable and potentially luxurious stay. The fact that the reviewer believed cabins might be a primary focus of their business suggests they are well-maintained and popular. For those who prefer tent camping, campsites are available, although one review noted being the only tent campers during a mid-week stay in early June. This could indicate varying levels of occupancy depending on the time of year.
A significant feature of Springmaid Mountain Campground is the access to the river. The ability to rent tubes and float down the "clean and beautiful" river adds a unique recreational element that many campgrounds do not offer. The presence of a trail for walking down to and out of the river suggests a well-organized system for enjoying this natural amenity. Additionally, the mention of horseback riding indicates that the campground offers guided tours or riding opportunities, catering to equestrian enthusiasts and providing a unique way to explore the grounds and surrounding trails.
The staff at Springmaid Mountain Campground seem to be a significant positive aspect of the visitor experience. One reviewer specifically praised the "general manager" as "the most outgoing fellow I have ever met always happy and cheerful upbeat and positive." This suggests a welcoming and friendly atmosphere fostered by the management. The reviewer's anecdote about receiving a refund due to a hurricane-related early departure further highlights the integrity and customer-focused approach of the staff. The overall sentiment of feeling like "family" underscores the positive interactions guests have with the people running the campground.
However, one review did raise a concern regarding the cleanliness of the "camping bathrooms and showers," particularly for tent guests, noting they should be cleaned daily when guests are present. While acknowledging the beauty of the grounds and the river access, this reviewer felt the lack of cleanliness in the restrooms detracted from their experience. This feedback suggests that while the natural environment and some of the services are highly regarded, the maintenance of certain facilities, especially those used by tent campers, might need more consistent attention.
Despite the concern about bathroom cleanliness, the reviewer did mention they would "stay again," indicating that the positive aspects of the campground, such as the beautiful grounds and river access, outweighed this issue. They also speculated that the early June timing of their visit might have resulted in a smaller crew, potentially impacting cleaning schedules. This highlights the importance of considering the timing of your visit and potentially inquiring about cleaning schedules when booking.

Sep 27, 2024 · Zachary RossBeautiful campground. They have cabins which is where they must make their business along with horse stuff. We were tent camping and got a campsite and were the only ones on the campground Thursday and Friday. Not a sole. The bathrooms should be cleaned every day and the showers were in desperate need of a hosing down. I get not cleaning them if you have no bookings but if guest are present they should be clean. Especially tent guests who will use it. But other than the bathroom it was beautiful. They have access to the river, which is clean and beautiful and you can rent tubes and walk a trail down and out on and float down. Truly beautiful grounds here, which makes me sad that I have them 4 stars. I would have given 5 stars if the camping bathrooms and showers were clean. Really the showers need attention. We will stay again, maybe they were running a small crew because it was early June but who knows.
Jun 09, 2024 · Lindsay LibhartThis was our first visit. It was right off the Blue Ridge parkway (4 miles). This place is beautiful and full of adventure. It's cool to have all the horses around and we enjoyed getting to know them. Plenty of hiking and views. The manager, Joe, is a great caretaker and he made sure our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. You really need to take a visit to this wonderful little gem. Great campground and cabins. We look forward to our next stay.
Oct 02, 2024 · Wes BreitenbachExcellent place. We would definitely go back. Very relaxing. Beautiful. We had some visters and they were not scared of us. They stayed for a bit.
May 18, 2022 · wendy thibaultVery peaceful, beautiful grounds. We went horseback riding two days in a row. The stable persons - Kella and Lacy were so great! The trails were beautiful and so much fun to ride. The manager and staff in the office were very nice and helpful. I would recommend going to Sprinmaid Mountain for a rustic and peaceful get away.
