Stone Mountain Park Campground Introduce
For local users in the Atlanta, Georgia area searching for "camping near me," Stone Mountain Park Campground, located at 4003 Stonewall Jackson Dr, Stone Mountain, GA 30083, USA, and reachable by phone at (770) 498-5710 or mobile at +1 770-498-5710, offers a unique camping experience within the popular Stone Mountain Park. Based on recent customer reviews, prospective local campers can gain valuable insights into the campground's environment, services, and features to help plan their visit.
The environment of Stone Mountain Park Campground is notably scenic, with many sites offering a "nice view of the lake and Stone Mountain" itself. The grounds are described as "nice due to the scenic woods," suggesting a setting that blends natural beauty with the iconic presence of Stone Mountain. The early morning ambiance is particularly appreciated, with the sounds of nature and the opportunity to enjoy the calm lake. Wildlife such as geese and squirrels are common sights, adding to the natural experience. However, campers should be aware that squirrels may attempt to access improperly stored garbage. While the campground offers a generally quiet atmosphere, especially in the morning, the approach to the park involves driving near Atlanta, which can be "hectic," though the roads themselves are reported as good. Once inside the park, however, one reviewer noted that the road within the campground is in poor condition, characterized by "potholes, broken pavement, huge humps," and a narrow entrance where caution is advised, particularly for larger vehicles. Despite these road conditions, the trees within the campground are reported as "all well trimmed."
In terms of services, Stone Mountain Park Campground offers a range of facilities. Check-in is located in a "large office at the entrance" where the staff is described as "friendly." A "large parking area" is available. While specific details about individual campsite hookups weren't universally provided, Site 282 was noted to have a "gravel pad and level" surface, along with a table and fire pit. One reviewer mentioned booking a "premium spot," implying that different tiers of campsites with varying amenities might be available. A swimming pool is present, although one visitor found it "extremely cold" even in June 2024. Laundry room and bathhouse facilities are available, though one reviewer did not use them, and thus their condition remains undescribed in the provided feedback. The campground does not have a clubhouse or a fitness area. Over-the-air TV antenna reception was reported as good at one site, but Wi-Fi was not available. Signage within the campground is noted as "bad," with discrepancies between the road map and actual road names. The campground offers diverse accommodation options, including RV and trailer sites, tent camping areas, and even yurts, catering to a variety of camping preferences.
The features of Stone Mountain Park Campground are closely tied to its location within Stone Mountain Park, offering easy access to the park's numerous attractions. One reviewer noted that "Access to Stone Mountain Park was really close and the drive there was great," appreciating the "windy roads and all of the different animals" seen along the way. The presence of a lake provides opportunities for scenic views and activities like skipping rocks. A wooden structure playground is available, though it appeared "a little outdated" to one visitor. The variety of camping options, from traditional tent sites to RV hookups and unique yurt stays, is a significant feature, allowing local users with different needs and preferences to find suitable accommodation. The generally quiet environment, especially in the mornings, contributes to a relaxing stay. However, potential campers should be mindful of the reported poor road conditions within the campground and the potential for unlevel sites in some areas, as noted by one reviewer who advised caution regarding sites 290, 153, 157, 174, and 172. The good spacing between sites at least in some areas, like the "very good" spacing reported at Site 282, is a positive feature for privacy and comfort.
Currently, no specific promotional information is included in the provided reviews. Local users interested in Stone Mountain Park Campground should contact them directly at (770) 498-5710 or +1 770-498-5710 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any special offers or packages that might be available, especially those that include access to Stone Mountain Park's attractions. Given the variety of camping options (RV, tent, yurt), it would be beneficial to ask about the specific amenities and pricing for each type. Inquiring about site-specific conditions, particularly regarding the levelness and road access, might also be prudent based on the feedback received. Checking the Stone Mountain Park official website may also provide additional information on campground promotions or bundled deals with park attractions.
In conclusion, Stone Mountain Park Campground offers local users a camping experience within a scenic and well-known Georgia landmark. The environment boasts lake and mountain views, with generally pleasant wooded grounds. Services include friendly staff, a laundry room, and a swimming pool, although the latter was reported as cold. A key feature is the variety of camping options and the close proximity to Stone Mountain Park's attractions. However, potential campers should be aware of reported poor road conditions within the campground and the possibility of unlevel sites in certain areas. For local users seeking "camping near me" with natural beauty and access to recreational activities, Stone Mountain Park Campground is a compelling option, and direct communication with the campground is recommended to secure reservations and gather the most up-to-date information.

Apr 26, 2025 · James FrazierWow! This place was amazing! We booked the premium spot for several nights and it did not disappoint. The early morning hours when all you hear is nature and can enjoy just sitting by the lake with your coffee. My kids really loved skipping rocks when it was extra calm and no birds were close. The geese and squirrels were fun to watch too. Though the squirrel's did some damage to The garbage bags if you campers left out even though the guidelines stated not to. They had a pool that was extremely cold even though it was June of 2024 when we went. They also had a wooden structure playground that looked really fun but also appeared a little outdated. Access to Stone Mountain Park was really close and the drive there was great. We enjoyed the Windy roads and all of the different animals we saw along the way. The campground was fairly quiet especially so in the morning. I think for anybody that is looking to try this place out have so many different options from RVs and trailers to tent camping or even staying in a yurt.
Mar 19, 2025 · Amanda LemmingA NICE Big RV & Campgrounds State park - It is 70 years old , So LOTs of the older Paved ROADS and Sites are VERY bumpy and BAD ! Needs lots of repairs and/or replacement ! We do FULL hooks ups, which are here. The better sites are, of course, the "orange" colored Premium sites....but beware, some are made ONLY for a Motor home to pull into, as the hook ups are at the very front by the roads. CALL to confirm Your site here. Sites 365-366-367-368 are good. But the pull thru 370 372 are TERRIBLE. Site 372s picnic table is a Sloped JOKE ! See pix of this. While there we saw 2 motor homes move off site 370 ---one went to office and got a new spot at the premium sites. Sites in "purple" are level but close and on main road ALL the traffic areas. See the park map. The "blue' sites are very rough, bumpy, asphalt ! Bring extra level blocks.Good place to bring bikes to ride around RV park, but the trails and roads that go around the "Stone". We used our dog strollers too.The Mountain is AMAZING ! There was a guy who hiked up with a Tube, playing it. Took the Sky-ride for $20, well worth it. Will do the hike next time. The $20 entrance fee is good the whole time your are there, so go explore the towns around or Atlanta. The Dino light show was AMAZING!!!!! Started off with drones. Some fireworks were great too !WORST part we DISLIKED was the Ridiculous Fee of $43 per adult just to enter the "Crossroads" area to just shop the stores and eat lunch !!! Hopeful you don't have to pay that to get to the train ride that cost $40 each.BEST place to eat is at the Golf course, The Commons Restaurant ! Pricey, but GREAT food and good amounts !e will be back and spend more then a week there, and I know the spots I'll get...or will NOT go until !
Apr 19, 2025 · M J AI stayed at the Stone Campground for 3 nights. Overall, it was a great experience with friends and we enjoyed all that the park has to offer.Pros:-Staff was friendly and helpful. Ms. Dianna (manager) helped us plan to see all the attractions and saved us $ by telling us about the weekend pass/bracelet. She also checked on us throughout our stay.-Garbage pickup is a great amenity-Campground and bathhouses were clean-Waterfront site offered beautiful views-Free boat tour for campersCons:-The roads and some sites are rough and unlevel. The staff is aware and they said they hope to be able to make necessary repairs soon. Definitely not impassable but hard to bike and walk.-Sites are close together with little privacy-“Lock-in” fee is not camper friendly and they should consider getting rid of this.-We had to pay an entrance fee to the park, I understand it’s separate from the campground but perhaps there should be an option to pay that at the time of reserving your sites online.
Apr 15, 2025 · Caleb WoehrI could not say enough about how wonderful our experience was at this campground for Christmas. Half of us traveled from Virginia and the other half traveled from Florida. We had a total of 17 and rented 4 yurts. The beds were some of the most comfortable beds we had ever slept in. The heat units were an absolute lifesaver! Each of our yurts stayed nice and cozy the whole time. There were plenty of outlets inside and outside. Each yurt came with two picnic tables, one in front and one on the back deck. I will say getting down to the water was a bit of a climb so if you are not moderately physically fit, it may be A challenge for you. Every day we had so much fun fishing and going down to the pavilion to participate in all of the wonderful activities that the ladies put on. They did arts and crafts, movie nights, family game nights, cocoa, s’mores, popcorn, etc. you name it they had it. I can only speak on bathrooms 5 and 6 because those were the ones closest to us. They were fantastic! By far the nicest camp bathrooms we have ever experienced and we camp a lot! They have clearly been beautifully updated, and we loved the natural hanging plants inside of the restrooms. It was the most ick free camp bathroom we have experienced lol. I would say it would be nice to have washer and dryer facility at all the bathrooms, We had to drive out to further bathrooms whenever we need to do any laundry. We were also missing a utility sink that we are used to having at other campgrounds to make it easier to wash dishes, especially when the water coming out of the Spicket at the campground is like ice cubes. Ultimately though we have no major complaints. We cannot thank this campground enough for hosting such an amazing Christmas for my family. We look forward to our next trip. We’ve decided to go in the summertime so that we could experience all of the summer activities that this wonderful campground has to offer. Normally, we would not consider such a long trip in the summertime but thankfully these yurts Have not only heat but also AC so we are confident we will be just as comfortable in the summertime. ❤️❤️Ps.For those wondering, we checked in on Monday, December 23rd and checked out on Friday, December 27th (4 nights, 3.5 days). We had 4 yurts (F2, 1, 2, 13) That slept all 17 of our family members very comfortably. Cost for entire trip came out to about $157 a person. 🤩🤩
