Summit Lake Camp Introduce
For local residents seeking a unique "camping near me" experience that combines the charm of cabin lodging with a variety of recreational amenities, Summit Lake Camp in Emmitsburg, Maryland, presents an intriguing option. Located at 7610 Hampton Valley Rd, Emmitsburg, MD 21727, USA, this campground is nestled within a forest, offering a secluded and natural setting for your getaway. If you're browsing the "camping near me" platform category and are open to a camp environment with a Christian focus, Summit Lake Camp provides a multifaceted experience with features that cater to both relaxation and activity.
The environment of Summit Lake Camp is predominantly characterized by its location within a forest. This setting offers a natural canopy, providing shade and a sense of immersion in the outdoors. The presence of a beautiful lake adds to the scenic appeal of the camp, although it's important to note, as mentioned by a reviewer, that the canoes are not available for use due to safety and health reasons. Despite this limitation, the lake likely contributes to the overall ambiance and may offer opportunities for lakeside relaxation. The camp also features playgrounds, making it a potentially attractive option for families with children looking for outdoor recreation within a safe and contained environment.
Summit Lake Camp offers a range of services designed to enhance the guest experience. One notable service is the provision of meals three times a day at specific times: 8:30 AM, 12:15 PM, and 5:15 PM. According to a reviewer, the food offers a large variety and is generally considered not bad. For those who may not find the provided meals to their liking, or for snacks and drinks, there is a canteen on-site. The canteen sells items such as candy, drinks, and sodas. To make purchases at the canteen, guests can either use their own money or buy a canteen card, which costs $5 and provides $6 worth of credit, offering a slight bonus. Another significant service is the presence of a clean and safe swimming pool, providing a refreshing option for recreation and relaxation, especially during warmer months.
The accommodation at Summit Lake Camp primarily consists of cabins. Reviews indicate that the cabins are clean, with no reported issues of bedbugs. However, guests should be prepared for occasional insects flying into the cabins, which is not uncommon in a forested environment. The bathrooms are described as quite cramped, with limited space for changing clothes. Therefore, it is recommended to change outside of the stalls for more comfort and convenience. For drying wet clothes, each cabin has a hanging line located behind it, a practical feature for swimmers or those who encounter wet weather.
Summit Lake Camp boasts a variety of features catering to different interests and age groups. For sports enthusiasts, there is an indoor gym with a basketball court, as well as an outdoor basketball court and a soccer field. Adding to the fun is a water slide, although one reviewer noted its availability might be seasonal or subject to change. The playgrounds offer dedicated spaces for children to play and burn energy. The presence of a lake, while not permitting canoeing, still contributes to the visual appeal and may offer opportunities for other lakeside activities (not specified in the reviews). It's worth reiterating that Summit Lake Camp is identified as a Christian camp, and as such, guests are advised to bring a Bible, a flashlight, and a journal. While phones are permitted, cell reception is reportedly limited to nonexistent, and Wi-Fi access is restricted to certain individuals. This limited connectivity encourages guests to disconnect from the digital world and engage more fully with the camp environment and activities.
Given its identity as a Christian camp, it's reasonable to expect that some activities or aspects of the camp program may have a religious orientation. While the reviews don't explicitly detail these, local users considering Summit Lake Camp should be aware of this aspect and be prepared to respect the camp's ethos. The recommendation to bring a Bible and journal subtly hints at potential religious activities or personal reflection opportunities.
While one reviewer found the camp "absolutely gorgeous," they also noted that it was "a little lacking on activities compared to others" and suggested that the cabins could benefit from better mattresses. Another reviewer echoed the sentiment that it is a camp and not a resort, advising guests not to expect luxurious amenities like cozy beds and reliable cell service. These comments provide a balanced perspective, highlighting the natural beauty and the range of facilities while also managing expectations regarding comfort and connectivity.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the user reviews. However, the comprehensive range of facilities, including accommodation, meals, recreational activities like swimming, sports, and playgrounds, along with the natural forest and lake setting, inherently promotes Summit Lake Camp as a destination offering a diverse camping experience for a potentially reasonable price. Local users interested in specific promotional offers, seasonal discounts, or group rates should contact Summit Lake Camp directly at (866) 961-4153 or +1 866-961-4153 to inquire about current deals and availability.
For local users actively searching the "camping near me" category, Summit Lake Camp offers a unique blend of natural immersion and structured activities. The provision of cabin accommodation provides a step up from traditional tent camping, while the on-site canteen and meal service offer convenience. The recreational facilities, including the pool, sports areas, and playgrounds, ensure that there are options for entertainment and physical activity for various age groups. The forested location and the presence of a lake (even without canoe access) contribute to a picturesque setting. However, potential guests should be aware of the limited cell service and Wi-Fi, the cramped bathrooms in the cabins, and the camp's Christian identity, which may influence some aspects of the experience.
In conclusion, Summit Lake Camp in Emmitsburg, MD, offers a multifaceted "camping near me" experience characterized by its forested location, cabin accommodations, on-site meals, a swimming pool, playgrounds, and various sports facilities. While it's important to note the limited connectivity and the camp's Christian nature, the positive reviews regarding the cleanliness of the cabins, the variety of food, and the enjoyable overall experience suggest that Summit Lake Camp can be a great option for local individuals and families seeking a structured and activity-filled outdoor getaway. Summit Lake Camp Reviews
At first I was skeptical about this camp. But I knew not to judge a book by its cover. The location of the camp is inside of a forest. There are playgrounds, a canteen for buying snacks (think, candy, drinks, sodas, and etc.) and even a clean and safe pool for swimming. There is also beautiful lake, but unfortunately the canoes cannot be used for safety and health reasons. The cabins were in fact clean; there were no bedbugs or anything like that but there were occasional insects flying into the cabins. The bathrooms are quite cramped, so it’s best to change clothes outside of the stalls since there will be no room to change clothes. We eat food 3 times a day. At 8:30,12:15 and 5:15. The food really isn’t bad, there is a really large variety of foods. But if you’re just not feeling the food then like I said, you can go to the canteen but you will need your own money or buy a canteen card. The canteen cards cost 5 dollars and have 6 dollars worth of money I believe. This is a Christian camp so bring a bible and flashlight and also a journal. You can bring your phone, but since there is little to no cell reception you will not be able to access the Internet. There is WiFi but it is only available to certain people. You’ll spend the majority of the day outside, and there are a lot of insects so bring insect spray and also sunscreen if you need it. If you plan on swimming in the pool, definitely bring a swimsuit and a towel. If you’re worried about your clothes getting wet, there is a hanging line behind each of the cabins where you can hang wet clothes. I recommend bringing tennis shoes as well, because sometimes the grass can be slippery, so definitely not a good idea to wear slippers outside either. There is an indoor gym with a basketball court, outdoor basketball court, a soccer field, as well as a water slide. Well, there was a waterslide for me when I came at least. My experience at this camp is really enjoyable and entertaining. I hope you can enjoy the same way I did. It is a really nice experience. 5/5
Jul 15, 2019 · giftAbsolutely gorgeous camp. It's a little lacking on activities compared to others, and cabins could invest in better mattresses, but an overall great place. It is a camp, though, so don't expect the luxuries of cozy beds and cell service!
Nov 12, 2016 · Joey ZiolkowskiI live with my church for 3 days and then was amazing it was one of the best ever the food yeah I'm not going to lie I was kind of not my style but it was good the church was really big and pretty and the boat for you can go in there with fun and the sleeping area it was actually really fun and we had a lot of space it was really good I recommend
Apr 13, 2022 · Ashly SortoThis was fun, the food was great, and we did a lot of activities. There was a pool, a basketball court, a Horse, Motorcycles, K-9 dogs, a volleyball court, a bonfire, 'Olympics,' 'Marathon,' cheers, Capture The Flag, arts and crafts, paddle boating, and Gimp. The counselors and staff were really nice, and the shower was a bit small, but it was great. The cabin was cool, and everything was really exciting. Everyone got to socialize, and it even got emotional. Best camp ever. Even though it was my first overnight one, it gave me a great experience and made me feel at home. I recommend this camp to everyone who is a patrol.
