The most significant feature of Surf City Family Campground is its direct access to a "GORGEOUS BEACH." Reviewers repeatedly emphasize the proximity to the sand and surf, with one stating it is "RIGHT ON A GORGEOUS BEACH" and another noting it's "literally a 100 yard walk!" This unparalleled beach access is the primary draw for many visitors, offering endless opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, beachcombing, and enjoying the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.
While the focus is clearly on the beach experience, Surf City Family Campground also provides essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Bathrooms are described as "plentiful and clean," addressing a fundamental need for campers. The campsites are reported to have "full hookup," which is a significant advantage for RV travelers, providing connections for water, electricity, and sewer. While one reviewer noted that the sites were "normally spaced if not slightly closer to each other than normal," they also pointed out that during a mid-week stay, there was plenty of empty space, suggesting that the spacing might be less of an issue during less crowded times.
The atmosphere at Surf City Family Campground appears to be relaxed and welcoming to a diverse range of visitors. While one reviewer observed "mostly adults," they also noted seeing a family tent camping with small children, indicating that it is indeed a family-friendly environment, despite its name. The campground is also pet-friendly, with "lots of dogs" mentioned by one guest, making it a great option for those who travel with their furry companions.
For basic needs, the campground offers a "little store" where guests can likely purchase essentials, and ice is also available for keeping coolers stocked. The location in North Topsail Beach also provides convenient access to "lots of food and drink options in the area," allowing campers to easily explore local restaurants and shops when they're not enjoying the beach or campground amenities.
It's important to note that Surf City Family Campground is described as "simple and rustic" and does not offer a pool or other "frills." The focus here is clearly on the natural beauty and direct access to the beach, which is precisely what many visitors, particularly those seeking a quintessential beach camping experience, are looking for. The lack of extensive amenities is compensated by the prime location and the friendly, helpful service.
The overwhelmingly positive reviews serve as strong promotional information for Surf City Family Campground. The reasonable rates, top-notch beachfront location, friendly staff, and full hookups are repeatedly praised. The direct and easy access to the beautiful beach is the standout feature, making it a "must stay" for beach enthusiasts. The willingness of the proprietors to assist with parking further enhances the positive impression of the campground's management.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' who prioritize beachfront access, a welcoming atmosphere, and essential amenities like full hookups, Surf City Family Campground is an excellent choice. Its location in North Topsail Beach offers a stunning coastal environment with plenty of local conveniences nearby. While it may lack some of the more elaborate features of larger resorts, its simplicity and direct connection to the beach provide a unique and highly desirable camping experience. Potential guests are encouraged to contact them at the provided phone numbers to inquire about site availability and make reservations, especially during peak season, to secure their spot at this popular beachfront gem.

Surf City Family Campground Reviews
Top notch location. This is EXACTLY what we were looking for as a great overnight stop on our east coast roadtrip. Extremely reasonable rates, very friendly staff, and RIGHT ON A GORGEOUS BEACH 😍😍😍 bathrooms were plentiful and clean. Sites were normally spaced if not slightly closer to each other than normal but we just stopped mid week and there was a lot of empty space. Mostly adults but I did see one family tent camping with small children. Lots of dogs. There is a little store and ice available. Lots of food and drink options in the area. No pool or frills but you're right on the beach which is exactly what we were looking for. Thank you for a great stay, we look forward to returning in the future!!!
Aug 29, 2024 · J PIt's simple and rustic. If you're all about the beach, this is a must stay. The proprietors were very friendly and helpful. They will even park your rig for you with their tractor if you have a hard time. The sites are tight but are full hookup. The beach is awesome here and it is literally a 100 yard walk! We will be back!
Jul 07, 2024 · Graham MarstellerI haven't even spent a full night here and I already can't say enough good things about this urban tourist area campground. I travel by bicycle and got here on a holiday weekend (Easter). I was welcomed by folks on the porch of the office right away. When I came in the office there was a birthday party for a 94 year old woman going on. Such a festive, family atmosphere. I got a kind discount on a campsite for just my tent, bike and myself.I definitely prefer quiet, private stealth camping but I can't always stealth camp as a nomad. As far as public campgrounds in tourist areas go, this place is stellar! Friendly people all around me!I highly recommend this place to bicycle travelers like myself and I'm maybe thinking of staying another night tomorrow if they'll have me. I've been invited already to Easter Sunday services. I feel a small town sense of community here. I'm a small town farm girl, born and raised so this place fits with my spirit and my soul very well.
Mar 30, 2024 · Barker Bike PirateYou can't see the ocean from the campground due to the dunes, but it is close enough to hear it and get the constant breeze! They are not all full hookups. They charge the same if you have sewer or not. If you don't, you can dump across the highway at the other location, BUT there is no water to flush with. It is just a sewer.Very friendly owners. The public bathroom stalls are not very tall. They should be taller than shoulder height.
