The Cove Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a camping destination within the "camping near me" category, The Cove Campground, situated at 980 Cove Rd, Gore, VA 22637, USA, offers a potentially attractive option, particularly for those who appreciate lakeside settings and reliable amenities. Based on the available customer reviews, The Cove Campground presents a mixed but generally positive experience, with notable features such as scenic lakes and reliable electricity, while also highlighting some areas for potential consideration.
The environment at The Cove Campground is described as "quite nice" with the prominent feature of "great-looking lakes." This suggests that the campground is situated in a picturesque area with water bodies that enhance the natural beauty and potentially offer opportunities for activities such as fishing, boating (if permitted), or simply enjoying the waterfront views. The presence of lakes can significantly contribute to a relaxing and scenic camping experience, providing a focal point for outdoor enjoyment. The surrounding area of Gore, Virginia, is part of Frederick County, known for its rural landscapes and proximity to the Shenandoah Valley, implying a setting that could include rolling hills and woodlands, further adding to the natural appeal.
In terms of services, the reviews provide some insights into the amenities available at The Cove Campground. One camper specifically mentions that the "electricity is reliable," which is a crucial factor for RV users and those who rely on electrical devices during their camping trip. This suggests that the campground offers electrical hookups at least at some of its sites. However, another camper noted an issue with water not being turned on during a mid-March outing. This could indicate that water services are seasonal or may be turned off during colder months to prevent freezing. Local users planning an early spring or late fall trip should inquire about the availability of water hookups.
The campground appears to accommodate RVs, as one reviewer mentioned staying in their RV at site 1. This site was described as "narrow but usable," and the reviewer had to disconnect their trailer to fit, also noting that their neighbors were "into my site a little bit." This suggests that while RVs can be accommodated, some sites might be less spacious than others, and careful maneuvering might be required. It would be prudent for RV owners to inquire about the dimensions and layout of specific sites when making reservations.
Bathroom facilities are available at The Cove Campground. The reviewer who stayed at site 1 found the bathrooms in that area to be "adequate." Additionally, a shower facility in site 3 was described as "very nice" but also "far," requiring a drive to access it. This indicates that the campground has multiple bathroom locations, but their quality and accessibility might vary depending on the campsite. Campers should consider the location of bathroom and shower facilities relative to their assigned site, especially those with mobility issues or a preference for closer amenities.
A notable feature of The Cove Campground is its apparent ability to host events, as one reviewer mentioned staying there for an "off-road event." This suggests that the campground may have facilities or space suitable for organized gatherings or activities beyond general camping. Local clubs or groups planning outdoor events might find The Cove Campground to be a potential venue.
One of the concerns raised by a reviewer is that the "prices are a bit steep." However, the reviewer also acknowledges the costs associated with maintaining the area and staffing the campground, indicating an understanding of the potential value proposition despite the perceived higher cost. This suggests that while the pricing might be above average, the overall experience might justify it for some campers, especially considering the lake environment and reliable electricity.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for The Cove Campground based on the provided reviews. Local users interested in potential discounts for longer stays, seasonal specials, or group rates (especially for events) should contact the campground directly at (540) 858-2882 or +1 540-858-2882 to inquire about any such offers.
In conclusion, for local campers exploring the "camping near me" category, The Cove Campground in Gore, VA, offers a setting with attractive lakes and the benefit of reliable electricity. It can accommodate RVs, although some sites might be narrow. The bathroom facilities are adequate in some areas, with a notably nice shower available but potentially located at a distance from certain campsites. The campground also appears capable of hosting events. While one reviewer found the prices to be somewhat high, the overall experience was deemed positive enough for a return visit. Local users considering The Cove Campground should inquire about the availability of water hookups during their intended stay, the dimensions of specific campsites if traveling with an RV, and the proximity of amenities to their site. Contacting the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on services, features, and any potential promotions is highly recommended to ensure a satisfactory camping experience.

The Cove Campground Reviews
The camping area is quite nice with some great-looking lakes. We had a good time and the electricity is reliable. We questioned why the water was not on for a mid-march outing, but other than that, the camping was good. I do think that the prices are a bit steep, but I understand that it probably costs money to maintain the area and keep staff. With that said, we will definitely be back again.
Apr 01, 2025 · Rob SherwinI stayed there for an off-road event.Brought my RV and stayed in site 1.The sire was narrow but usable. I needed to disconnect my trailer to fit (my neighbors were into my site a little bit). We figured it out, and all was ok.The bathrooms in site 1 were adequate, and the shower in site 3 was very nice (but far, I had to drive to get to it).Overall, it was a very nice experience staying at the Cove!
Nov 08, 2024 · August AversaI visited "THE COVE CAMPGROUND" to use the gun range that they have. I was pleasantly surprised, once paying the very reasonable fee to use the range I got to enjoy the drive out. The area was beautiful this time of year with the changing of the leaves. Once at the range, I was there alone for and git to enjoy being out and only hearing the squirrels russel under the leaves. There are tables ready for all your pewpews . It's a tad bit of rough drive, so have a vehicle with some ground clearance but won't need 4WD.They also have trails for ATV enjoyment and camping and swimming area. Also, they have a LONG range range.. I will be back even though it's a drive it's completely worth it.
Nov 07, 2024 · William SandersIf you're looking for quiet camping in the middle of nowhere, you found it. We did tent camping and it was peaceful and beautiful with lots of room to spread out with multiple families camping together. The prices were a little disappointing. $25 per person I understand and even the $10 per kid. The $40 deposit for the site seemed excessive as well as $20 per kayak per day. Also, understanding the 24 hour rule is important. If you come into the camp at 10am, you'll have to leave by 10am, even though no one else will be coming into the site bc you don't have to say when you're coming. I'm not sure if we will go back as it ended up costing us a lot more than we expected even though it was beautiful. Just check and call them to confirm all prices and times ahead of time.
Aug 03, 2024 · Travis McDanielThe Cove gives you access to a lot of activities you might not have around you. They have a 500 yd shooting range which is worth it to me alone(must pay separately). The campground is charming and has a lot of room to walk, run, or bike. Some campgrounds are fairly close, but there is enough room that you can be on opposite corners of each other and be comfortable. The swimming area is very clean, a bluegrass band came out to play, it felt very alive. Overall a comfortable place to experience a multitude of outdoor activities, we’ll definitely be back :)
