Thousand Trails Bear Cave

4085 Bear Cave Rd, Buchanan, MI 49107, USA

3.0
We stayed here for a week and some things were very good and some were terrible this the 3 stars.Overall: the campsite looked overall clean and the residents and guests were clean and tidy. Campground is old and some areas not well kept.Site: our site was level, clean and very spacious. We loved it. There were even flowers planted. It was one of the biggest sites we’ve ever had and that seemed to be norm with many of them.Playground: sadly the playground area and equipment are in terrible and unsafe condition. Playground had broken parts to include a missing step and unsecured to the ground ladder.Bathrooms: I found the bathrooms to be on the dirty side.Clubhouse: other than being a bit retro and boring the club house was in good shape and clean.Pool: the pool looked okay. Seemed to be well kept overall but the bathrooms by the pool are a horror movie- awfully old, dirty and just very creepy shack of a bathroom building.Water issues: there were 2 leaks/water issues in the week we were there. One seemed to be something that happens quite a bit (from an annual) the other was handled within a day so that was good. There was boil water advisory.Overall we had an okay stay. If we hear that amenities are improved we would come back due to the proximity to St. Joseph. Very easy and beautiful 30min drive. - Joy M
Thousand Trails Bear Cave Overview Intro Photos Location Reviews

Thousand Trails Bear Cave Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" in the Buchanan, Michigan area, Thousand Trails Bear Cave, located at 4085 Bear Cave Rd, presents a riverside option with spacious campsites. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers some appealing features, particularly its location and site sizes, but also has areas where improvements may be needed. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview to help local users make an informed decision.

The environment of Thousand Trails Bear Cave is notably situated "on the river," which is highlighted as a significant "pro" by one reviewer, suggesting a potentially scenic and enjoyable natural setting with opportunities for riverside activities. The overall cleanliness of the campsite areas and the tidiness of residents and guests are also mentioned as positive aspects. However, it's important to note that the campground is described as "old," and some areas are reported as "not well kept." One reviewer also mentions a "tight entry road filled with huge pot holes," which is a practical consideration for local users, especially those with larger vehicles. Despite these mixed points, the beautiful location on the river remains a key environmental feature for those seeking a riverside camping experience near Buchanan.

In terms of services, Thousand Trails Bear Cave offers full hookup RV sites, with one reviewer specifically mentioning 50 Amp service. The campsites are described as "level, clean, and very spacious," with some even featuring planted flowers, indicating an effort towards creating pleasant individual sites. The presence of a "pool" is also noted as a "pro" and appeared to be "well kept overall," providing a recreational option for guests. A "clubhouse" is available and described as being in "good shape and clean," although "retro and boring." However, significant concerns are raised regarding the condition of other amenities. The "playground area and equipment are in terrible and unsafe condition," with broken parts and unsecured structures. The "bathrooms" are described as "on the dirty side," and the "bathrooms by the pool" are portrayed even more negatively as "awfully old, dirty, and just very creepy." Additionally, the campground experienced "water issues," including leaks and a boil water advisory that reportedly lasted for over a week, with concerns raised about the lack of direct and timely communication to campers regarding the advisory. For local users considering Thousand Trails Bear Cave, it's crucial to weigh the positive aspects of spacious sites and a pool against the reported issues with the playground and bathroom cleanliness, as well as potential water-related concerns.

The features of Thousand Trails Bear Cave include its "nice size sites and long pull thru's for towers trailer," which is particularly beneficial for RV owners seeking "camping near me" with ample space and easy access. The beautiful location on the river is another key feature, offering potential for scenic views and riverside activities. The presence of a pool provides a recreational amenity during warmer months. However, the significant negative feedback regarding the "terrible and unsafe" playground and the "gross" and "creepy" bathrooms are crucial features to consider. The recurring "water issues" and the handling of the boil water advisory also represent important features related to the overall guest experience and safety communication. While the clubhouse is functional and clean, it is noted as lacking in appeal. The proximity to St. Joseph, described as an "easy and beautiful 30min drive," could be a feature for local users interested in exploring the attractions of that nearby city while staying at the campground. For local users, the spacious sites and riverside location might be appealing, but the reported condition of the playground and bathrooms, as well as potential water issues and communication, should be carefully evaluated.

Currently, there is no explicit promotional information available for Thousand Trails Bear Cave based on the provided customer reviews. The reviews primarily focus on the experiences of recent guests, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of their stays. For local residents in Buchanan and the surrounding areas looking for "camping near me," Thousand Trails Bear Cave offers a riverside location with spacious RV sites and a pool. However, potential guests should be aware of the concerns raised in recent reviews regarding the poor condition of the playground and bathrooms, as well as reported water issues and communication during a boil water advisory. The proximity to St. Joseph is a notable advantage for those interested in visiting the area. To make an informed decision, local users should weigh the pros of the location and site sizes against the cons of the amenity conditions and potential service issues. Contacting the campground directly for the most current information on amenity status and any ongoing improvements is highly recommended before booking a stay.

In conclusion, Thousand Trails Bear Cave in Buchanan, MI, offers a riverside camping experience with spacious sites and a pool, making it a potentially attractive option for local users. However, recent reviews indicate significant issues with the playground and bathroom conditions, as well as past water-related incidents and communication concerns. While the location and site sizes are praised, prospective local campers should carefully consider these reported drawbacks and contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information before planning their visit.
