Thousand Trails Whalers Rest Introduce
For local users exploring the 'camping near me' category, Thousand Trails Whalers Rest, located at 50 SE 123rd St, South Beach, OR 97366, USA, offers a camping experience in a "gorgeous area" with a "beautiful campground." However, based on the available customer reviews, it's important for prospective visitors to be aware of both the positive aspects and potential drawbacks of this location.
Environment:
One reviewer described the area as "gorgeous" and the campground itself as "beautiful." This suggests that Thousand Trails Whalers Rest is situated in a scenic part of South Beach, Oregon, likely benefiting from the natural beauty of the Oregon coast. South Beach is known for its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, sandy beaches, and possibly coastal forests. Campers might expect to experience the typical coastal environment of the Pacific Northwest, with its lush greenery and ocean views or sounds.
However, another reviewer mentioned a "too heavy tree canopy for satellite," indicating that the campground has a significant amount of tree cover. While this can provide shade and a more natural feel, it might interfere with satellite reception for those who rely on it. This also aligns with the potential for a coastal forest environment.
The first reviewer, who found their initial site too small, was accommodated with a bigger one by the park ranger, suggesting that the campground has sites of varying sizes. This is important for RVers with different rig dimensions.
One negative aspect regarding the environment, from a different reviewer, was that they were "crammed into a spot with 2 other campers in a space that should be a single," with one in the middle having "absolutely no room to be outside." This paints a picture of potentially overcrowded conditions in some areas of the campground, emphasizing quantity over quality in site arrangement.
Services and Amenities:
One positive service highlighted is the helpfulness of the park ranger, Cindy, who assisted a guest in finding a more suitable site. This suggests that at least some of the staff are accommodating and willing to help campers.
However, another significant issue raised is the lack of connectivity. One reviewer stated, "They advertise WiFi but there was none at our site, no Verizon cell service anywhere in the park, too heavy tree canopy for satellite." This indicates that internet access and cellular service might be unreliable or non-existent in certain or all parts of the campground. This is a crucial consideration for those who need to stay connected.
The reviews do not provide details about other standard campground amenities such as restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, or recreational areas. Local users would need to inquire directly about these services.
The reservation process is also criticized as a "complete dumpster fire," with the reviewer stating that they "can't choose a site," are told to "reserve online but need to also call to complete and still don't receive a site until arrival." This suggests potential inefficiencies and a lack of transparency in the booking system.
Features:
The primary feature seems to be the "gorgeous area" in which the campground is located, likely providing access to the natural attractions of the South Beach area of Oregon. This could include beaches, coastal trails, and scenic viewpoints.
The helpfulness of the park ranger, Cindy, can also be seen as a positive feature of the staff.
However, the crowding of sites, the lack of reliable WiFi and cell service, and the problematic reservation process are significant negative features to consider. The emphasis on "quantity, not quality" in site arrangement, as mentioned by one reviewer, suggests that the priority might be maximizing the number of campers rather than providing spacious and well-separated sites.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional offers or discounts for Thousand Trails Whalers Rest. The mention of advertised WiFi, which was reportedly unavailable, is more of a point of contention than a promotion.
Local users interested in pricing, availability, or any special deals should contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (541) 867-3100 or +1 541-867-3100.
Thousand Trails Whalers Rest and 'Camping Near Me':
For those in the South Beach, Oregon area looking for 'camping near me', Thousand Trails Whalers Rest is located in a beautiful area and has at least one helpful staff member. However, potential campers should be aware of reports of crowded sites, unreliable or non-existent WiFi and Verizon cell service, and a cumbersome reservation process. The heavy tree canopy, while contributing to shade, might also affect satellite reception.
If you prioritize a scenic location and are less concerned about connectivity or potentially tight camping arrangements, Thousand Trails Whalers Rest might still be an option. The availability of different site sizes, as indicated by the first review, is also a plus for those with larger RVs. However, it would be prudent to inquire about site selection and the current status of WiFi and cell service when booking.
Local users should weigh the positive aspects of the location and helpful staff against the reported issues with crowding and connectivity when considering this campground for their local camping needs. Direct communication with the campground might provide more clarity on the current conditions and any improvements made.

Thousand Trails Whalers Rest Reviews
Gorgeous area. Beautiful campground. Our first site was way too small for our rig, but park ranger Cindy was super-helpful getting us a bigger site. We didn't book a long enough stay to fully enjoy the area but we will definitely be back. Cindy was also very friendly and courteous on our way out.
Apr 27, 2025 · Dana PrinceComing here was a mistake, this campground caters to long term and is not short term friendly, they crammed us into a spot with 2 other campers in a space that should be a single, the one in the middle has absolutely no room to be outside, The reservation process is a complete dumpster fire, can't choose a site, they say to reserve online but need to also call to complete and still don't receive a site until arrival. They advertise WiFi but there was none at our site, no Verizon cell service anywhere in the park, too heavy tree canopy for satellite, sites are crammed in everywhere with heavy emphasis on quantity, not quality,
Apr 19, 2025 · Sno CatterThis page was great. So many things to do, we did not even have enough time to do everything. The cabin was perfect. The staff were awesome. Close to town to check out the little shops. Loved this place.
Apr 04, 2025 · christen dukesNegative feedback is not our bag but this stop went too far. We arrived to Site 75 and found garbage in the firepit and thrown about the bushes. It rained the entire 7 days so firepit wasn't needed. Upon leaving apparently they decided that checkout was 11 instead of 12 (like all the other TT sites). So they knock on the RV at 11:01 to let us know (instead of at check in) and I tell her about the firepit and garbage. She left for a few minutes while we frantically pack up and came back to tell us that thefirepit and garbage was OUR responsibility to clean up. I let her know we are not liars and wont be cleaning that up for THEM. My wife came out and the employee decided to argue with her as well. We left completely frustrated and extremely upset at the confrontational employee who was completely out of line. We then checked the reviews and lo and behold the first review to pop up was a review of over a month old from the exact same site with the exact same cottage cheese lid, potatoes, and different garbage in the pit. So to the employee that called us liars, maybe check your reviews while your doing your research, before you look silly. We are not going back to this location unless changes are made. Already canceled our next 2 stays and working on the rest.
Feb 23, 2025 · D ScottAmenities are nice. Pool and clubhouse were clean. Our camp spot was not.. small pieces of trash all over and larger items shown in the photos. Staff is decent, although got kicked out of the clubhouse 15 mins early on a Saturday because they had better things to do and leave early. Didn't appreciate a sales call 15 mins after booking.
