Vanderpool Campground Introduce
For local residents in Vilas, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Vanderpool Campground, located at 120 Campground Rd, Vilas, NC 28692, USA, presents a location with contrasting recent reviews, suggesting a varied experience for visitors. Reachable by phone at (828) 297-3486 or +1 828-297-3486, this campground is situated in the scenic Appalachian region near a flowing river. While one review expresses significant dissatisfaction, citing issues such as abandoned RVs, hygiene concerns with the camp manager, and a cluttered office, another review paints a more positive picture, praising the cool summer weather, a reserved great site, beautifully kept flowers and fruit trees along the river, and well-maintained grounds with 50 amp service and ample space. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the potential environment, services, and features of Vanderpool Campground based on these contrasting accounts, and to guide local users on how to utilize the "camping near me" platform category to gather further information and make informed decisions.
The environment of Vanderpool Campground in Vilas, NC, appears to be a significant potential asset, particularly highlighted by one reviewer who mentioned the "cool Summer weather" and the presence of a "flowing river" with "flowers and fruit trees beautifully kept" along its banks. This suggests a potentially picturesque setting with natural beauty and the soothing sounds of running water. Vilas is located in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina, an area known for its scenic landscapes, pleasant summer temperatures, and diverse flora. Campers might expect a setting surrounded by trees, with the river being a central feature, offering potential for riverside relaxation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. The mention of "Appalachian Mountain Air" further emphasizes the appealing natural environment of the location. However, the contrasting review mentioning "abandon RV's that are falling apart" suggests that certain areas of the campground might detract from this natural beauty, indicating a possible lack of consistent maintenance or aesthetic upkeep across the entire property.
In terms of services and features, the available information from the reviews presents a mixed picture. One positive aspect mentioned is the availability of "50 amp" electrical service at some sites, which is a significant amenity for RV campers with higher power demands. The reviewer also noted "plenty of space" for their vehicle and a "Clam tent," suggesting that the sites can accommodate larger setups. The grounds are described as "rock or grass," and importantly, the reviewer appreciated that there were "NO MUDDY Puddles" even when it rained, indicating good drainage at least in some areas. The fact that the woman running the place "reserved a great site" suggests that site reservations are possible and that some effort is made to accommodate guest preferences. However, the negative review raises serious concerns about the camp manager's hygiene and the state of the office, which is described as "loaded with garbage" and smelling "like a pigsty." This stark contrast indicates a potential inconsistency in the management and upkeep of the campground facilities. The presence of abandoned and deteriorating RVs is also a significant negative feature that could impact the overall camping experience and the aesthetic appeal of the campground. Local users should be aware of these conflicting reports when considering Vanderpool Campground.
The key features of Vanderpool Campground, based on the reviews, are somewhat contradictory. On the positive side, the location near a flowing river in the cool Appalachian summer, the availability of 50 amp service and spacious sites, and the well-maintained grounds (at least in some areas with good drainage) are attractive. The presence of flowers and fruit trees along the river adds to the scenic appeal. However, the significant negative features reported by another reviewer, including the presence of abandoned RVs, concerns about the camp manager's hygiene, and the unhygienic state of the office, cannot be ignored. These issues could severely detract from the camping experience and raise concerns about the overall management and maintenance of the campground. The deceptive nature of the website pictures, as alleged in one review, is also a serious concern for potential visitors who rely on online information to make their decisions. Therefore, local users should exercise caution and seek the most current and unbiased information available.
For local users actively searching for "camping near me" on relevant platforms, finding Vanderpool Campground will likely yield its listing along with any available photos and reviews. Given the strongly contrasting opinions, it is crucial to pay close attention to the most recent reviews and any photos uploaded by users that might provide a more accurate and up-to-date representation of the campground's current condition. "Camping near me" platforms often allow users to filter by rating and read detailed accounts of other campers' experiences. Local users should look for trends in the reviews to determine if the positive or negative experiences are more consistent or if there have been any recent changes in the campground's management or condition. It would also be wise to check multiple platforms to get a broader range of opinions.
To enhance a potential stay (or to make an informed decision not to stay) at Vanderpool Campground, the "camping near me" category can also help local users find nearby services and goods for sale in Vilas and the surrounding areas. Regardless of the campground's condition, campers will likely need supplies such as groceries, camping gear, and personal items. The platform can help locate local grocery stores, convenience stores, and sporting goods stores in the Vilas or nearby Boone area. If you are an RV camper utilizing the 50 amp service, knowing the location of nearby RV supply stores or repair services could also be beneficial, although hopefully not needed due to the campground's condition. Additionally, the platform can help find local restaurants or attractions in the area if you plan to explore beyond the campground itself.
Given the starkly contrasting reviews, any promotional information for Vanderpool Campground should be viewed with caution. If the campground has a website with pictures that are alleged to be deceptive, local users should be wary of relying solely on that source. Any positive promotional language highlighting the riverfront location, cool summer weather, or 50 amp service needs to be balanced against the reported negative conditions. It would be prudent for the campground management to address the concerns raised in the negative reviews publicly and showcase any improvements that have been made. Transparency and honesty in their online presence would be crucial to rebuilding trust with potential visitors. Local users might find any official promotions or responses to reviews on the "camping near me" platforms where the campground is listed.
For local users considering Vanderpool Campground, the most prudent step would be to seek more current information beyond the two reviews provided. This could involve checking multiple "camping near me" platforms for the latest reviews and user-uploaded photos. If possible, driving by the campground to assess its condition from the outside might also be a good idea. Contacting the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current state of the facilities, management, and any recent improvements is also essential. Asking specific questions related to the concerns raised in the negative review would be advisable. Based on this additional research, local users can make a more informed decision about whether Vanderpool Campground meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
In conclusion, Vanderpool Campground near Vilas, NC, offers a location with potential environmental benefits, such as its proximity to a flowing river and the cool Appalachian summer weather, and some potentially valuable amenities like 50 amp service at certain sites. However, recent reviews present a concerningly mixed picture, with one highlighting significant issues related to campground maintenance, hygiene, and the state of the facilities, contrasting with another more positive experience. Local users searching for "camping near me" should exercise caution, conduct thorough research on "camping near me" platforms, and consider contacting the campground directly to obtain the most current and accurate information before making a reservation. The contrasting feedback suggests that the experience at Vanderpool Campground can vary significantly, making due diligence essential for local campers.

Vanderpool Campground Reviews
If you can find another place to camp, I would go there. The campground has abandon RV's that are falling apart. The camp manager, has a terrible hygiene problem. The office where you check in, is loaded with garbage and smells like a pigsty. The pictures on the website are deceptive, don't be fooled.
Jul 12, 2024 · Gunner GI love the cool Summer weather here. The woman that runs the place reserved a great site for us. The flowers and fruit trees along the flowing river are beautifully kept. Our site has 50amp, plenty of space for our auto, and Clam tent. It’s well maintained grounds are rock or grass. It’s a joy to step out of our RV and enjoy the Appalachian Mountain Air with grass, rocks, concrete pad be with my feet (when it rains there are NO MUDDY Puddles :.)
Jul 08, 2021 · Vickie GayGreat little campground! The little creek and flowers everywhere are delightful! Plenty of room for each site with either a small deck or concrete pad. We have just spent two weeks here and found it convenient to all the places a tourist wants to visit. The owner is super nice and helpful.
Jul 19, 2021 · peta fullerI've been to hundreds of campgrounds in my lifetime and this was by far the worst one I've ever encountered. The owner is extremely rude, unprofessional, and treats the guests horribly. She either stands in the middle of the road giving out hateful looks and won't move over, or parks her car in the middle of the drive where you can't even get out most of the time. She also doesn't allow dogs to "pee on any plants", so I'm not sure how that is even possible if you go for a walk. The only perk is that they are open year round, but other than that, I would not wish this place on anyone.
Oct 30, 2020 · Ree ViewsThere is nothing per se wrong with this park. It is at the lower end of cost for other choices in the area and during the time of my visit was the only park with availability. It is quite proximal to Boone and local attractions. For me, it was fine as a place to park to visit the area for a few days. All the utilities worked fine and the owner was always helpful and cheerful. The wi-fi was consistently excellent. There is some maintenance work that could be done to make the place more attractive but that really isn't a major issue in my case. I fit in with a big RV. It wasn't the easiest place to park but it wasn't the most difficult either. Other campers were willing to help by moving their vehicles to assist. There is a potential future risk of access as trees and bushes grow, I suppose. I personally wouldn't have a problem staying again during a visit to the area. I didn't use the restrooms or laundry so have no comment on them.
