Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday Introduce
For local adventurers seeking the perfect "camping near me" experience in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York, Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday, located at 1278 Waterloo Geneva Rd, Waterloo, NY 13165, presents itself as a potential option. As part of the well-known KOA network, this campground aims to offer a range of services and amenities to cater to various camping preferences. Let's delve into what this campground provides, drawing upon available information and recent customer reviews to give you a comprehensive understanding.
Situated in the heart of the Finger Lakes region, Waterloo offers a picturesque setting for a camping getaway. The area is renowned for its stunning lakes, rolling hills, vineyards, and charming towns, making it an attractive destination for local residents looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday positions itself as a gateway to exploring these natural and cultural attractions.
According to customer feedback, the owners and staff at this KOA are highly regarded for their excellent service and helpfulness. This positive aspect can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, providing a welcoming and supportive environment for guests. The campground is also noted for its cleanliness, with sites described as large, hard-packed, and fairly level, which are desirable features for both tent and RV campers seeking ease of setup and comfortable living spaces.
One of the standout features mentioned in the reviews is the availability of on-site kayaking. This amenity offers a fantastic opportunity for guests to enjoy the nearby waterways, providing a memorable and active start to their day. The Finger Lakes region is ideal for water-based activities, and having kayaking available directly at the campground adds significant value for those looking to explore the lakes and rivers.
However, it's important to consider some of the concerns raised by recent campers. One reviewer, who stayed in a pop-up camper, found the lack of amenities challenging, suggesting that the campground might be more geared towards self-contained campers. The limited number of facilities, specifically four toilets and two showers for the entire park, could potentially lead to wait times and inconvenience, especially during peak season. This is a crucial factor for tent campers or those in smaller RVs without onboard facilities to consider.
Another significant point of feedback is the scarcity of shade at the campsites. The reviewer camping during a heatwave noted that there were very few, if any, shaded spots, making their experience more difficult. This lack of shade could be a considerable drawback during the hot summer months, potentially impacting the comfort and enjoyment of your stay, particularly for those in tents or without robust air conditioning in their RVs.
Furthermore, the campsites are described as being extremely close to each other. One reviewer mentioned being in an "L shape" with another campsite, indicating a lack of privacy and potentially a crowded feel. This proximity to neighboring campers might not be ideal for those seeking a more secluded and tranquil camping experience.
Despite these challenges, the reviewer in the pop-up camper also mentioned overhearing discussions about potential future improvements, including the expansion of the recreation room and the addition of a pool. These planned enhancements could address some of the current limitations and further enhance the appeal of Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday in the future. However, as of now, these are still potential developments.
Considering the information available, Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday offers a mixed experience. The excellent service from the owners and staff, the cleanliness of the grounds, the large and level sites, and the availability of kayaking are significant positives. These aspects suggest a well-maintained and activity-oriented campground.
On the other hand, the limited number of toilets and showers, the lack of shade at the campsites, and the close proximity of the sites are factors that potential local users should carefully consider, especially if they are tent campers or prefer more space and privacy. The campground appears to cater well to self-contained RVs, where the limited shared facilities might be less of an issue.
For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the Finger Lakes region, Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday provides a convenient base for exploring the area's attractions. The positive feedback regarding service and cleanliness is reassuring. However, it is advisable to inquire specifically about site availability, shade conditions, and the current status of amenities when making a reservation, especially if you have specific needs or preferences regarding these aspects.

Waterloo / Finger Lakes KOA Holiday Reviews
The owners/staff at this campground were so great and helpful. However, we believe that this campground is geared towards self contained campers. We were in our pop up, and honestly found it difficult to camp. The lack of amenities was challenging. There are four toilets and two showers for the whole park. We had to wash our dishes at the site because we did not see any dishwashing stations. Additionally, we were camping through a heat wave, which was made more difficult by the lack of shade. There are very little - if any - shaded spots. Also…sites are extremely close. We were kind of in an L shape with another camp site. Truthfully…we left and got a hotel room to try to salvage our trip, as we drove 4 hours to get to the area. If we were camping again in the area, I would only consider this park if we were in a self contained camper. It looks like they are potentially expanding the rec room and we overheard talk to adding a pool, so hopefully it will be improved soon. Really want to reiterate how nice and welcoming the staff was.
Jun 23, 2024 · A PFirst time visiting the area. This KOA has the best service comparable to any campground we have stayed. The area is clean, sites are large hard pack and fairly level. We enjoyed the kayaking they offered which was a great start to the days. Highly recommend, we will be back.
Aug 18, 2024 · C CulbertPerfect campground and right on the water. Clean, and spacious sites. Easy access to bike trails. Close to Auburn, Watkins Glen and Ithica areas. Tons of wineries and breweries. Quant little towns all close by.
Sep 22, 2024 · Maryjo MooreThis KOA is well situated at the North end of Seneca Lake and is a great launching point to visit the wonderful sites along the lake. Many wonderful wineries and craft breweries. Spacious sites with good fishing opportunities along with canoe and kayak rentals.
Sep 11, 2024 · Chris NonnemakerThe staff was VERY friendly when we arrived, nice touch welcoming our family on the sign outside the office. Site was clean, quiet, and we enjoyed watching the turtles and herons each morning. Good location near area attractions.
