Consider Whitestone Hill Campground, located at approximately 549Q+V8, Merricourt, ND 58456, USA. Based on the available reviews, this campground offers a generally quiet atmosphere, opportunities for various outdoor activities, and is the site of an annual POW-WOW, making it a unique destination for local users seeking more than just a typical camping trip.
The environment surrounding Whitestone Hill Campground appears to be characterized by open spaces and natural beauty, particularly during the summer months, as one reviewer noted it is "extremely beautiful and relaxing" in the summer. The mention of opportunities for biking, walking, and kayaking suggests the presence of suitable terrain and possibly nearby water bodies that enhance the recreational appeal of the area. The quiet nature of the campground, as indicated by the review stating it's "Definitely a quite place to camp at the right time," implies that visitors can expect a peaceful and potentially less crowded camping experience, especially outside of specific events.
In terms of services, the campground offers basic but essential amenities. The presence of a "vault toilet" provides a necessary sanitation facility. The inclusion of "grills and picnic tables" at the campsites allows for convenient outdoor cooking and dining. These fundamental services cater to campers looking for a more traditional outdoor experience. Additionally, the review mentions that "Cell phone service on Verizon had 2 bars of LTE service," which can be important for staying connected or in case of emergencies, offering a degree of convenience despite the potentially remote location.
The features of Whitestone Hill Campground extend beyond the basic amenities and natural setting. One of the most notable features is its historical significance. As mentioned in a review, the site is where "early U.S. history" occurred, and there are points of interest just a short walk around the road that "should NOT be ignored." This provides a unique opportunity for campers to learn about and reflect on the past while enjoying their outdoor stay. Furthermore, the campground hosts an annual POW-WOW during the summer, which "fills up" the area and welcomes everyone to pay respect to the events that transpired at Whitestone Hill. This annual gathering is a significant cultural event and a unique feature that distinguishes this campground, offering a chance for visitors to witness and participate in a meaningful cultural experience.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided for Whitestone Hill Campground. However, the unique combination of a quiet natural setting, historical significance, and the annual POW-WOW could be considered its inherent appeal. For local users interested in a camping experience with an added dimension of history and culture, Whitestone Hill Campground offers a compelling option. The mention of affordability ("cool place to spend a few nights camping at if you’re passing through the area!") suggests that the camping fees are likely reasonable, making it an accessible choice for a getaway.
To obtain more specific details about Whitestone Hill Campground, local users may need to consult local tourism resources or online camping directories for North Dakota. Information regarding camping fees, availability, specific regulations, and the exact dates of the annual POW-WOW would be beneficial for planning a visit. Given the limited information, contacting the local parks and recreation department in the Merricourt area might also provide additional details about the campground and its facilities. Understanding the best "time" to visit for a quiet experience versus experiencing the POW-WOW would also be helpful, as indicated by the first review.

Whitestone Hill Campground Reviews
Definitely a quite place to camp at the right time 🏕️Once a year during the summer this place fills up for a POW-WOW and everybody is welcome to pay respect to what happened here. There’s a vault toilet, grills and picnic tables! Cell phone service on Verizon had 2 bars of LTE service. Lots of place to ride bikes, walk, kayak or just relax in a hammock. Just a short walk around the road is some early U.S. history that should NOT be ignored. Definitely a cool place to spend a few nights camping at if you’re passing through the area!(Winter camping isn’t for everyone but I’ve been here in the summer and it’s extremely beautiful and relaxing).
