Wompatuck Campgrounds Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in a natural setting with convenient access to both coastal areas and the city of Boston, Wompatuck Campgrounds, located at 271 Union St, Hingham, MA 02043, USA, offers a promising option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground presents a relaxed atmosphere with notable natural features and accessibility to the surrounding region. Let's explore the environment, services, and features that Wompatuck Campgrounds provides.
Environment:
Wompatuck Campgrounds is situated in a well-wooded area, as highlighted by a reviewer who mentioned the sites being "well wooded around." This suggests a camping experience immersed in nature, providing shade and a sense of privacy. The campground is also known for its diverse wildlife. Visitors can expect to encounter various creatures such as spiders, birds, bats, lightning bugs, and, notably, deer that frequently walk through the campsites. Raccoons are also present, reminding campers to store their food properly. Other wildlife mentioned include toads and big turtles, sometimes seen in the road. For those who enjoy observing nature, Wompatuck offers ample opportunities. However, one reviewer did caution about dog ticks, advising visitors to be prepared.
The spaciousness of the campsites is a significant positive aspect mentioned. One reviewer on the electrical side noted "plenty of space between you and your neighbors," which is a welcome contrast to more crowded campgrounds. This allows for a more relaxed and private camping experience.
On the other hand, it's important to note that water is not available at each individual site. Campers need to walk and carry jugs for water and dishes, which might be a consideration for some.
Services and Amenities:
The process for reserving a spot at Wompatuck Campgrounds is described as "easy," without the reservation requests that some other places might have. This can make planning a camping trip more straightforward.
The campground offers electrical hookups on at least one side, which is beneficial for RVers and those who prefer to have access to electricity at their site. There is also a dishwashing station located at the bathhouse, which was utilized and appreciated by one reviewer.
Recreational activities within the campground include a tetherball area, which one reviewer mentioned their kids (and they themselves) enjoyed while visiting the bathhouse for cleaning or doing dishes.
However, some areas need improvement. Multiple reviews mentioned issues with the bathroom showers. One stated that both bathhouses tend to have colder showers, and the drains do not drain well. Additionally, an outside sink was noted as never draining. Another reviewer also pointed out that one shower in the bathhouse was constantly running, which was perceived as wasteful.
One reviewer experienced an electrical issue upon arrival, finding that their electricity did not work on the first night after a long drive. While this seems to be an isolated incident, it highlights the importance of checking your hookups upon arrival.
Features:
A significant feature of Wompatuck Campgrounds is its convenient location. It is noted to be accessible to multiple historical sites, as well as the coast and Boston, making it a good base for exploring a variety of attractions in Massachusetts. This blend of a natural camping environment with proximity to cultural and urban areas is a key draw.
The relaxed atmosphere, as mentioned by one reviewer regarding the "relaxed atmosphere faculty," contributes to a positive camping experience. The spaciousness between sites also enhances this sense of relaxation and privacy.
The spontaneous live entertainment from other campers, such as live saxophone, guitar, and a light show on a couple of nights, adds a unique and enjoyable element to the camping experience, fostering a sense of community and unexpected fun.
While the campground was reported to be "mostly quiet," one reviewer did mention an issue with a neighboring tent playing music and chopping wood late into the night, indicating that noise levels can occasionally be a concern depending on nearby campers.
Promotional Information:
Based on the positive feedback, Wompatuck Campgrounds promotes itself through its easy reservation process, spacious and clean electrical-side campsites, and the relaxed atmosphere facilitated by the staff. The unique experience of daily deer sightings and other wildlife encounters is also a notable draw for nature lovers.
The convenience to historical sites, the coast, and Boston makes it an attractive option for those wanting to combine a camping trip with exploring the broader Massachusetts area.
The enjoyment of recreational facilities like the tetherball and the unexpected live music from fellow campers contribute to a positive overall impression for many visitors.
For local users looking for "camping near me" that offers a blend of nature, space, and accessibility to surrounding attractions, Wompatuck Campgrounds is worth considering. While there are some noted areas for improvement, particularly regarding the bathhouse showers and the lack of water at each site, the positive aspects such as the spacious sites, wildlife, relaxed atmosphere, and convenient location make it an appealing choice. Wompatuck Campgrounds Reviews
Easy to reserve, no request to reserve like other places. We stayed on the electrical side. It’s clean, plenty of space between you and your neighbors again unlike other places. Very relaxed atmosphere faculty. Wildlife visitors included many varieties on spiders, birds, and bats, lightning bugs, dog ticks (be prepared), deer walking right through the camp sites daily as well as racoon (keep food stored away), toads, and big turtles in the road. The only thing I’d say needs improvement are their clean bathroom showers. They may be clean but both bath houses tend to have colder showers and drains that don’t drain and one outside sink that never drains. While visiting the bathhouse for cleaning or doing dishes the kids had a lot of fun with the tether ball, (so did I). Otherwise I’d give this place 5 stars. END NOTE enjoyed some live saxophone, guitar, and light show on a couple nights from other campers
Jul 04, 2024 · Devra MachadoWe had a mixed review, earning the 4 stars. Bad news first, our electricity did not work. We set up and plugged in to only be disappointed on the first night (after a LONG drive and arriving after hours). Also, no water at each site means walking/ carrying jugs and dishes. It was noted that one shower was constantly running in the bath house which feels very wasteful. I would say the camp ground was mostly quiet… except the tent directly behind us who decided to play music and chop wood until after midnight. But the Positives: the site was maintained and mostly free of litter save a tiny speck or three. We made use of the dish washing station located at the bath house three rows away. We often heard children laughing, playing and biking. The campground was mostly quiet (see above) and well wooded around the sites. It’s convenient to multiple historical sites making it convenient to the coast as well as Boston and other places.
Jun 24, 2024 · Onna KoehnI've been camping here for years. It's quiet and clean. The sites are spacious and can accommodate anything from a tent to a large motor home. The electric sites are the best. I set up my kuerig and got to enjoy my coffee without having to leave my site.Yes, I'll be back.Park staff are very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that it's run by a third party and doesn't honor the Sr passes that other state parks accept. I would recommend them renaming it to Wompatuck Park since the state has no say..It saves us money, but in my opinion, the discount would actually create more revenue for the park.Overall, it's a gem. Fairly close to everything, including Nantaskett Beach..Have fun.. I did
Oct 03, 2023 · Pearl WirtanenNice, quite, peaceful place. Not all sites are the same size, some are small some a little bigger. I didn’t see any animals(if you’re worried about that). Just bugs, a lot of bugs lol.. There is a river near the camp (30-40 min walk),it’s a nice place to walk to and do your exercise! The website says they don’t provide water but on the map they give you at check in it shows places you can get drinkable water. They sell wood at the entrance. One thing I was excited about was to do the horse riding and when I got there I couldn’t find the place, I called the office and they told me that people bring their own horses for that. So if you don’t have a horse, don’t expect to find there. They have kayak for free but only certain hours. There aren’t many activity options. The bathrooms-showers are “ok”. Not very clean but not very dirty either, they don’t smell (if you have sensitive nose like me).I really enjoyed camping there, I will go again and I do recommend it! I just put 3 stars because I expected to do more activities.
