For active duty Department of Defense (DOD) personnel and Veterans seeking exceptional "RV parks near me" within the Fort Johnson South, Louisiana area, Alligator Lake RV Park offers an exclusive and welcoming retreat. Situated on Cocodrie Road, Fort Johnson South, LA 71459, USA, this RV park provides a secure and well-maintained environment tailored to the needs of the military community. You can reach them by phone at (337) 531-5350 or via mobile at +1 337-531-5350 to inquire about availability and make reservations, keeping in mind the eligibility requirements for staying at this park.
Based on the experiences of satisfied guests, Alligator Lake RV Park is highly regarded for its spacious sites, well-kept grounds, and family-friendly atmosphere. One visitor, on their first visit to Fort Johnson, shared their positive experience at campsite #15: "We are so happy with our campsite #15. The park is not big, and each site has plenty of space. It's definitely well maintained. We were assigned 15, a back in site that took a bit of maneuvering for our big toyhauler, but once in place, we were in love with this site. There is a lake full of fish. We have dogs, and this site gives us privacy and loads of grassy space for their pen and going for walks. There is a nice outdoor metal table with bench seats, a big fire pit, and benches along the lake. We're staying several more days and will enjoy every day. Staff in the office are very helpful and friendly too." This detailed review highlights several key features of the park, including the generous size of individual campsites, the evident commitment to maintenance, and the availability of amenities such as picnic tables, fire pits, and lakeside benches. The ample grassy space is particularly beneficial for those traveling with pets, and the presence of a fish-filled lake adds to the recreational appeal.
Another reviewer succinctly captured the unique appeal of Alligator Lake RV Park, stating, "I really like this RV park. It is active duty DOD and Veterans only, as it’s on Fort Polk property. Shade, fishing, kids park, boat rentals and no loud ppl. Definitely recommend." This feedback underscores the exclusive nature of the park, catering specifically to the military community. The mention of shade is a significant comfort, especially during the warmer months in Louisiana. The availability of fishing and a kids' park makes it an ideal destination for families. Furthermore, the option for boat rentals suggests opportunities for enjoying the lake beyond just fishing. The comment about "no loud ppl" indicates a peaceful and respectful environment, which can be particularly valued by those seeking a tranquil retreat.
While the reviews provide valuable insights into the environment and some of the features, they do not explicitly detail all the services and amenities available at Alligator Lake RV Park. However, based on the positive experiences shared, it can be inferred that essential RV hookups (water, electricity, sewer) are likely provided, although the specifics (e.g., 30/50 amp service) are not mentioned. The presence of an office with "helpful and friendly" staff suggests that guests can expect assistance with check-in, information about the park and surrounding area, and potentially other services.
The environment of Alligator Lake RV Park is clearly a significant draw. The presence of a lake, as indicated by its name and the reviewer's comment about it being "full of fish" and having benches along the shore, offers opportunities for relaxation, fishing, and enjoying the natural surroundings. The mature trees providing shade contribute to a more comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience. The spaciousness of the individual sites ensures a degree of privacy and room for setting up camp comfortably, even for larger RVs like toy haulers.
The features mentioned in the reviews point to a park designed with the comfort and recreation of its guests in mind:
- Spacious Campsites: Each site offers ample space, accommodating various sizes of RVs and allowing for comfortable setup.
- Well-Maintained Grounds: The park is consistently kept in excellent condition.
- Lakeside Access: Proximity to Alligator Lake with fishing opportunities and scenic views.
- Individual Site Amenities: Many sites include an outdoor metal table with bench seats and a large fire pit. Some also offer benches along the lake.

Dec 29, 2023 · liturgicalinda HamiltonI really like this RV park. It is active duty DOD and Veterans only, as it’s on Fort Polk property. Shade, fishing, kids park, boat rentals and no loud ppl. Definitely recommend.
Aug 30, 2022 · SelleyThe lake is stocked with nice sized catfish. Nice view of the lake. Quiet. The sites have large level concrete pads, picnic tables, bbq grill, and large metal fire ring. The fire pit was full of plastic garbage. They let the grass get knee high before mowing.
Oct 20, 2017 · Reid ParkerBeautiful lake with clean sites. Perfect for the family since the park across the lake is a quick 1 mile drive. Sites come with tables, grills, and fire pits.
Mar 13, 2021 · Judith FernandezLoved the openness of the park. No problem parking our 40’ motorhome right beside the lake on a concrete pad with full hookups. We had some night training going on and several formation flights of helicopters going over, but it didn’t keep us awake. Very nice showers. Well equipped MWR. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us. The downside was the patchy paved road and low hanging tree limbs around the office area loop. I much preferred the smooth level gravel roads at the campground. We are full-time RVers, so will return again.
