Bay RV Park Introduce
For local users searching for "RV parks near me" south of Houston, particularly in the San Leon, Texas area, Bay RV Park, located at 2322 FM517, San Leon, TX 77539, USA, presents a mixed picture based on recent online reviews. While praised for its convenient location near Galveston Bay and its friendly staff, including instances of upgrades and helpfulness, there are also significant concerns raised regarding theft and the condition of certain amenities. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview, balancing both the positive and negative feedback to help prospective visitors make an informed decision.
The reviews for Bay RV Park offer contrasting experiences. One reviewer had a highly positive stay, emphasizing the kind staff, convenient location with proximity to Galveston Bay, Texas City, and Galveston, the cleanliness of the facilities (kitchen, laundry, bathhouse), and even a complimentary site upgrade. This reviewer awarded the park a 5-star rating based on these factors. However, another reviewer reported a significant negative experience involving theft of personal belongings and also noted issues with the small and consistently wet dog park, as well as the presence of numerous stray cats. This divergence in experiences suggests that while some aspects of Bay RV Park are commendable, others may be cause for concern.
Environment and Ambiance:
Bay RV Park is described as being located south of Houston and in close proximity to Galveston Bay, as well as the cities of Texas City and Galveston. This location offers potential access to various attractions and activities along the Texas Gulf Coast, including waterfront recreation, historical sites, and urban amenities in the nearby cities. The reviewer who had a positive experience mentioned "serene views," although the specifics of these views (e.g., water views, natural scenery) were not detailed. The presence of roses lining the steps to the office suggests an effort to create an appealing aesthetic at the entrance.
However, the second reviewer's comments introduce a less positive aspect of the environment. The report of theft under their camper raises concerns about the security and safety of guests' belongings within the park. Additionally, the description of the dog park as "small and always wet" indicates a potentially unusable or unpleasant amenity for pet owners. The presence of "cats everywhere!" might also be a factor for those with allergies or those who prefer a pet-free environment outside of designated areas.
Services and Amenities:
The positive review highlights several services and amenities that were appreciated during their stay:
- Pull-Thru Sites: The host's offer of a free upgrade to a pull-thru site demonstrates a willingness to accommodate guests and provide added convenience, especially for larger RVs.
- Clean Kitchen: The availability of a clean kitchen facility can be a significant benefit for RVers who prefer to cook their own meals or need a larger cooking space than their RV provides.
- Laundry Facilities: On-site laundry is mentioned as being convenient, allowing guests to take care of their laundry needs without leaving the park.
- Clean Bathhouse: The tour of a clean bathhouse suggests that the park maintains hygiene in its shared restroom and shower facilities.
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: Both the host who provided the upgrade and the maintenance man who introduced himself and offered assistance contributed to a positive impression of the staff.
However, the second review provides a contrasting perspective on some of the amenities:
- Inconvenient Dog Park: The dog park is described as small and consistently wet, which would likely detract from its usability and enjoyment for pet owners.
The second reviewer did not comment on the cleanliness of the kitchen or bathhouse. It is important to note that while laundry facilities were mentioned as convenient, this was within the context of a stay where theft occurred.
Features and Highlights:
Based on the available reviews, the potential features and highlights of Bay RV Park include:
- Convenient Location: Its proximity to Galveston Bay and the cities of Texas City and Galveston offers access to a variety of attractions, dining, and services.
- Friendly and Accommodating Staff: The positive interaction with the host and maintenance man suggests a welcoming and helpful team.
- Cleanliness of Some Facilities: At least one reviewer found the kitchen and bathhouse to be clean.
- Laundry On-Site: The availability of laundry facilities adds convenience for guests.
- Pull-Thru Sites (Potentially): The upgrade suggests that pull-thru sites are available, which can be advantageous for certain RV types.
However, potential drawbacks include:
- Security Concerns: The report of theft is a significant issue that prospective guests must consider.
- Subpar Dog Park: The small and consistently wet dog park may not be suitable for pet owners.
- Presence of Stray Cats: The abundance of stray cats might be a concern for some guests.
Promotional Information:
The provided information does not contain any specific promotional offers for Bay RV Park. Local users interested in staying at this park would need to contact them directly at (281) 339-5557 or +1 281-339-5557 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any potential discounts for short-term or long-term stays. When calling, it would be prudent to also inquire about the park's security measures in light of the reported theft and to get more details about the dog park and pet policies.
Prospective guests might also want to ask about the types of RV sites available (e.g., pull-thru vs. back-in), the hookup specifications (water, electricity, sewer), and any other amenities that are important for their stay.
Why Consider Bay RV Park (with Caution)?
Bay RV Park offers a potentially convenient location for those wanting to explore the Galveston Bay area and nearby cities. The positive feedback regarding the friendly and accommodating staff and the cleanliness of some facilities is also noteworthy. The offer of a free upgrade to a pull-thru site indicates a customer-friendly approach by at least one member of the staff.
However, the serious report of theft is a significant red flag that cannot be ignored. Potential guests should be aware of this reported security issue and take extra precautions to safeguard their belongings if they choose to stay at Bay RV Park. Additionally, the negative comments about the small and wet dog park and the presence of numerous stray cats might deter pet owners or those who prefer a cleaner outdoor environment.
Local users searching for "RV parks near me" in the San Leon area should weigh the positive aspects of location and friendly staff against the reported security concerns and issues with certain amenities. It is strongly recommended to contact Bay RV Park directly to inquire about their security measures, pet policies, and the current condition of the dog park. Seeking more recent reviews from other sources might also provide a more comprehensive and up-to-date perspective on the overall guest experience.
Ultimately, while Bay RV Park has received some positive feedback, the reported theft and the issues with the dog park and stray animals suggest that prospective guests should proceed with caution and gather as much information as possible before making a reservation. Comparing Bay RV Park with other nearby options might be advisable to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay.

Bay RV Park Reviews
A nice clean RV park south of Houston, blocks from the Galveston Bay and close to Texas City and Galveston. Our host gave us a free upgrade to a pull thru site, which was so kind! She gave us a tour of the clean kitchen, laundry facilities, and bathhouse. The roses lining the steps up to the office are gorgeous. Maintenance man introduced himself the first night we came in and told us to let him know if we needed anything.Giving it 5 stars for the staff, location, and driving distance to several areas of sightseeing.
Apr 16, 2025 · Debbie ZachariahThe first couple days of our stay we had $$$ stuff stolen that was under our camper. The laundry on location was convenient. Dog park is small and always wet. Cats are everywhere! My personal opinion : spend a little more for another nicer campground nearby.
Mar 05, 2025 · Maddi WeilandIt's well run and clean . The management is friendly and helpful . The showers and bathrooms are always clean along with the clubhouse . If there were six stars I'd give em that one too
Feb 23, 2025 · david simkinsMy wife and I stayed here from 12/15/24 through 1/3/25. We stayed in a pull through site (97). I was able to call the day of and get a site. The staff is great. Holly is one of them and if she would see you walking past the office would start a conversation you. It's in a nice location to get to Houston or down to Galveston Island. The Kemah boardwalk is about 15 mins from here. I'll defiantly come back here the next time I'm passing through
