K-C Oil Co Introduce
For RV travelers seeking a stop in Malad City, ID, and searching "RV parks near me" with a focus on affordability and basic amenities, K-C Oil Co & Campground at 1 Bannock St, Malad City, ID 83252, USA, presents a unique and, at times, polarizing option. While the facility primarily operates as a gas station (albeit a non-functioning one in terms of fuel sales, as indicated by one review) and convenience store, it also offers RV parking, making it a viable, albeit unconventional, choice for a night or two.
K-C Oil Co & Campground is situated on Bannock Street in Malad City. Its most distinctive environmental feature is its location "behind a nonfunctioning gas station." This means that while it offers the convenience of being attached to a retail establishment, it lacks the typical "gas station" functionality for refueling vehicles. The immediate surroundings of the RV area are described as having "10 original sites that has squeezed another site between each of the 10 original," suggesting a compact layout. This close proximity between sites indicates a lack of extensive privacy or expansive individual spaces.
The general environment of the RV park itself appears to be quite rustic, with one detailed review painting a picture that contrasts sharply with the typical manicured RV park experience. While not explicitly stated, the lack of mention of manicured lawns or extensive landscaping, coupled with concerns about dog waste, suggests a more utilitarian, less aesthetically focused environment. This could appeal to those who prioritize cost savings over luxurious surroundings.
Malad City itself offers a small-town, rural Idaho atmosphere. One review of the attached store highlighted a "very home town feel with no rush" and described the cashier as "so nice and pleasant," creating a sense of "genuine kindness." This suggests that while the RV park itself might be rough around the edges, the local community and the associated store provide a welcoming and friendly experience, which can be a significant draw for travelers needing a break from driving.
K-C Oil Co & Campground primarily offers basic, essential services for RVers on a budget. According to reviews, the park provides electric hookups, which were noted as "wired properly and appears ok so far." This is a crucial amenity for most RVs, allowing for power to run appliances and climate control. Additionally, there is a "dump station" available, which is vital for waste disposal, especially for those who might not have full hookups at their site or are preparing to leave.
However, the quality of some amenities is a point of concern. One reviewer explicitly stated they "would not hook up to water on a dare," implying significant reservations about the water quality or system. This is a critical piece of information for prospective guests, who might need to rely on their onboard water supply. The park reportedly does not offer Wi-Fi, which is a common amenity in many modern RV parks but absent here, reflecting its more basic offering.
A peculiar feature mentioned in a detailed review is that "each site comes with four to seven cats." While this could be endearing to cat lovers, it's an unusual characteristic for an RV park and might not appeal to everyone. The review also describes dynamic interactions involving "park dogs barking at and chasing each site’s allotted 4-7 cats," indicating an uncontrolled pet environment.
Customer service and site management appear to be inconsistent. One reviewer recounted an incident where they were asked to move sites because another guest arrived early, despite already being set up. The alternative site offered was described as having "12 piles of dog $hit," highlighting significant cleanliness issues in some spots and a lack of consistent site preparation.
The primary promotional draw for K-C Oil Co & Campground appears to be its low price point, with one reviewer stating they were charged "$30.00" (though they noted an initial price of "$20.00"). This affordability makes it an option for travelers on a tight budget, especially when other parks in the region are full or more expensive. The convenience of its location right off the highway and the friendly nature of the associated store's staff are also positive aspects that contribute to its appeal as a quick "break driving" stop.
However, it is crucial for prospective guests to be aware of the varied and, at times, significantly challenging experiences reported by past visitors. The detailed negative review paints a picture of a park with considerable issues regarding cleanliness (dog waste), unmanaged animal populations (cats and dogs), and late-night disturbances from other residents. Descriptions of loud nocturnal activity, including "inmates began arriving back at the park loudly exclaiming how much everyone loved everyone else" and subsequent arguments, suggest a potentially disruptive and uncomfortable environment for some. This contrasts sharply with the expectation of peace and quiet typically associated with an overnight RV stop.
Therefore, while K-C Oil Co & Campground may appear on "RV parks near me" searches as a budget-friendly option, it is vital that travelers understand its specific characteristics. It seems best suited for those who are highly self-contained, not reliant on park facilities beyond electric hookups, and prepared for a potentially lively and less-than-pristine environment. Given the wide range of experiences, from polite staff at the store to significant disturbances in the park, it's a place where expectations should be carefully managed. K-C Oil Co Reviews
Read the reviews for the store and it was spot on. The cashier, I believe her name is Carrie, was so nice and pleasant, that my wife and I felt genuine kindness. The patrons were also super friendly, very home town feel with no rush. Recommend here if you need a break driving.
Feb 02, 2025 · Chris La BellaK-C Oil Co & Campground1 Bannock St, Malad City, ID 83252We are not Happy Campers.Every park within 100 miles of Salt Lake City is full to the brim because we hit the weekend. When I find one that has a reasonable price, I fill out the online reservation form to find the prices are 50% more but they have no spaces available. We found the EXCEPTION (Unfortunately)! K-C Oil Co. Malad City, ID. It is behind a nonfunctioning gas station with 10 original sites that has squeezed another site between each of the 10 original. There is a dump station and I would not hook up to water on a dare. The Elec is wired properly and appears ok so far.The price was $20.00 but we were charged $30.00, no Wi-Fi, but each site comes with four to seven cats.In addition to all the above listed amenities, a man came down riding his converted lawn mower enforcement vehicle and said we would have to move to another site because the woman who was supposed to come into our site tomorrow arrived early and wanted the site we were in.We were set up for the evening and weighing all factors, we refused to break down and move because another person had changed their arrival plans. He wanted us to move to a site (see pic) that had 12, oh, yes, 12 piles of dog $hit (ranging in age of a week to 3 minutes old) in it. However, we would not have moved if it were a freshly poured concrete slab with petunias planted around it.Ok, that was the good part:Around 8:00 PM we noticed that all residents had changed from their pajamas into street cloths.Park dogs began barking at and chasing each site’s allotted 4-7 cats and residents began leaving the park.At approximately 9:45 PM the dogs became tired of chasing the cats.At 02:30 -02:57 AM the inmates began arriving back at the park loudly exclaiming how much everyone loved everyone else. Everyone was carrying a 12-pack or bottle into the fifth wheel parked 23” (inches) away from us. I counted 7 but may have been more who squeezed into the trailer.100 slammed car and trailer doors later it became eerily quiet except that this activity, again, stirred up the cat chasing dogs for a while. Finally, at 04:17-04:43 AM the slobbering drunks and mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, droolers began leaving. The dreaded and dangerous hour had arrived: It is the “I hate you”, “you are an a$$ hole and you are worthless” sequence period of a drunk’s night.04:55 AM I am sitting here praying that those who left in a huff will not return to seek revenge on those they loved just hours ago.05:22 AM, just finished my third cup of coffee and think, possibly, hopefully, this adventure has ended. What a night!
