When searching for "RV Parks Near Me" in the Duluth area, Lakehead Boat Basin consistently receives high praise for its unique position and excellent amenities.
The environment at Lakehead Boat Basin offers a distinctive urban camping experience. While it is acknowledged that the RV park is situated within what one reviewer describes as a "parking lot," this aspect contributes to its unique charm and convenience rather than detracting from it. The spaces are noted to be "wide," providing ample room for RVs. This urban setting means campers are immediately immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Duluth. Despite being in an urban environment, the location provides "amazing views," likely of the Duluth harbor, Lake Superior, and the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge. This maritime backdrop creates a visually engaging and dynamic environment. The overall atmosphere is enhanced by the friendly community it fosters, with many visitors returning year after year, indicating a welcoming and enjoyable social environment. While it might not offer the sprawling natural landscapes of a traditional forest campground, its urban waterfront setting provides a different, equally appealing kind of scenic beauty and accessibility to city life.
Lakehead Boat Basin excels in the services and features it provides, ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for RVers. A significant highlight is the quality and cleanliness of its facilities. The bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities are "maintained by the hotel and are extremely nice and clean," a point frequently praised by guests. This partnership with a hotel likely contributes to the high standard of maintenance and amenities. Showers and Wi-Fi are included, offering essential modern conveniences for travelers. The availability of a laundry room is an added benefit for those on longer trips. For RV hookups, the park offers both water and electric sites, and there's a strong indication of the availability of full hookup sites (water, electric, sewer), with one reviewer even noting a complimentary upgrade to a full hookup. This flexibility in site types caters to different RV needs. The RV office also keeps "some supplies if you forgot something," which is a thoughtful and practical service for campers. Beyond the physical amenities, the standout feature is the exceptional hospitality. The owners, Joel and Jodi, along with staff members like Tony, are consistently described as "so friendly and accommodating," "incredibly helpful," and providing "great advice," particularly regarding RV-related issues. This level of personalized and supportive service significantly enhances the overall guest experience, making visitors feel truly welcome and cared for.
From a promotional standpoint, Lakehead Boat Basin positions itself as the ideal urban RV park destination in Duluth. Its prime location is a key selling point, offering an "easy walk to downtown area restaurants" and immediate access to iconic attractions like the Aerial Lift Bridge. The "unique experience watching it lift" is a memorable draw that sets this park apart. Being in downtown Duluth means guests are steps away from Canal Park, the Duluth Lakewalk, maritime museums, shops, and dining establishments, allowing for a diverse range of activities without needing to drive. The park actively promotes its clean and well-maintained facilities, highlighting the high standards of its bathrooms, showers, and laundry. The warm and helpful nature of the staff is a significant draw, fostering repeat business and positive word-of-mouth recommendations. The park's ability to accommodate various RV sizes, with wide spaces that are generally manageable for up to 30ft Class C motorhomes (though larger RVs might find backing in more challenging), broadens its appeal. It's an excellent choice for those seeking a vibrant urban experience combined with the comfort and convenience of an RV park. The consistent positive reviews and the high rate of returning guests serve as strong testimonials to the quality of the experience offered at Lakehead Boat Basin, making it a top contender for anyone searching for "RV Parks Near Me" in the Duluth area who desires an engaging and convenient city-centric stay.

Lakehead Boat Basin Reviews
We had the best stay at Lakehead Boat Basin! The owners Joel and Jodi were so friendly and accommodating and Tony was incredibly helpful! We've been dealing with a lot of plumbing issues and everyone had such great advice and were really able to help us out.The location is perfect to Downtown Duluth and we enjoyed walking over the aerial bridge. It is a unique experience watching it lift!Yes, the RV park is in a parking lot, but it made for a unique camping experience and didn't make a difference for us. The spaces are wide, but larger RVs may have more of a challenge backing in (we have a 30ft. Class C Motorhome with no tow vehicle and didn't have any problems). The bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities are maintained by the hotel and are extremely nice and clean. We met a lot of friendly people while staying here and found out that many people stay here year after year. I highly suggest booking a stay here!
Sep 25, 2024 · Kelly DresslerWe stayed the night and booked a water and electric RV site and the host upgraded us to a full hookup site at no additional charge. RV office has some supplies if you forgot something. Shower, WiFi are included. Laundry room is available if needed. I would recommend if you are staying in the Duluth area, easy walk to downtown area restaurants and the views are amazing.
Jul 08, 2024 · Chad Van DykeWe LOVE staying at Lakehead Boat Basin with our RV, stayed several times, and have always loved the view and the convenience to all of the fun activities only blocks away. The owners are so kind and always try their best to accommodate even in last minute changes. Highly recommend!!
Jun 28, 2024 · Kirsten PettieCamped here in a motorhome. Great views of the city with ore ships coming and going. We have been staying here for several years and are booked for next year. Owners are very accommodating and friendly.
Jul 16, 2024 · Tom “Imal” BlomlieCamping here was recommended by another camper we met on our way back from Glacier. Frankly I’d avoid the place. We hauled our 5th wheel here only to be assigned a site what we couldn’t get into. They had pulled a big 45’ boat out and parked the boat lift right in the way. We ended up getting our money back and drove to a more traditional camp ground. The boat basin is in great location right downtown and a close drive to the beach but the campground is just all pavement so you are camping on a parking lot. If you don’t mid that and have a smaller right then it might work for a night or two.The two red stripes are the camping in the attached photo.
