MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the vicinity of North Chicago, Illinois, offering a unique camping experience? Look no further than the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground. Situated at 715-799 Ziegemeier St, North Chicago, IL 60088, USA, this RV park boasts a prime location on the shores of Lake Michigan, providing stunning waterfront views for its guests. You can reach them at (847) 688-6763 or +1 847-688-6763 for inquiries and reservations.
Based on feedback from fellow RV enthusiasts, the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground presents a mixed experience. One of its most significant assets is undoubtedly its picturesque location right on the water. Imagine waking up to the serene sights and sounds of Lake Michigan, a truly exceptional backdrop for your camping adventure. The ease of making reservations has also been noted as a positive aspect, allowing for a smooth and convenient booking process.
Furthermore, the campground offers level camping spots, a practical feature that ensures a more comfortable and stable setup for your RV. This eliminates the hassle of leveling your vehicle upon arrival, allowing you to settle in and start enjoying your stay more quickly.
However, it's important to consider some of the areas where the campground could see improvement, as highlighted by recent visitors. One recurring point is the limited utility hookups available at each site. Currently, only electric hookups are provided directly at the individual camping spots. Water hookups and a dump station are reportedly located approximately a mile away from the camping area. This lack of immediate water and sewer connections at each site might require more planning and effort for longer stays or for those who prefer the convenience of on-site utilities.
Another aspect mentioned in the reviews is the overall upkeep of the grounds. Some visitors have observed that the grounds appear to be unmaintained, with concerns raised about pet waste despite the presence of dog stations. This suggests that the cleanliness and general tidiness of the campground might not consistently meet expectations.
Additionally, some reviewers have noted the presence of a significant number of long-term residents, or "full-timers," within the RV park. While long-term residents can contribute to a sense of community, some feedback indicates that these permanent occupants tend to occupy the coveted water-view spots. This might mean that those visiting for shorter durations may not have the same opportunity to enjoy the premium lakeside views.
Despite these points for consideration, some visitors still find the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground to be a worthwhile place to stay. One reviewer placed it in the middle ground when compared to other FamCamps they have visited, suggesting that while it may not be the most luxurious, it still offers a decent camping experience. The value of the location and the level sites are factors that continue to attract visitors.
For local users searching for "RV parks near me," the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground offers a unique opportunity to camp on a military installation and enjoy direct access to Lake Michigan. While the amenities might be somewhat basic, the stunning location provides an appealing draw for those who prioritize natural beauty and a waterfront setting. If you are comfortable with electric-only hookups at your site and are prepared for a potential walk to access water and the dump station, this campground could be a viable option.
It's advisable to contact the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground directly at (847) 688-6763 or +1 847-688-6763 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any specific regulations or guidelines for staying at the park. Asking about recent improvements or changes in services might also provide a more up-to-date understanding of what to expect during your visit.
In conclusion, the MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground offers a compelling lakeside location near North Chicago. While some aspects like utility hookups and ground maintenance have received critical feedback, the level sites and the undeniable beauty of Lake Michigan remain significant attractions. For those seeking an RV park with a focus on natural surroundings and are prepared for a more rustic camping experience with limited on-site amenities, this campground could be a suitable choice. We encourage you to weigh the pros and cons based on your individual needs and preferences when considering your options for "RV parks near me."

MWR Navy Great Lakes RV Campground Reviews
Nice location on the water. That's the only good thing I can say. It's full of fulltimers that live here permanently, one guy said he's been here 2 years. The fulltimers have the water view. Electric only, water and dump about a mile down the road. Grounds are unkept and dog feces all over even though there dog stations around. Sadly it looks like base command doesn't care about the campground.
Jul 06, 2024 · Bill SzaboThe view of Lake Michigan is great! Making the reservation was simple. The camping spots are level. That is the good points. The spots are a bit on the small side, sadly only electric hookups, no water or dump.It still is a great place to stay, just that it could be a lot better. We have been to many FamCamps and this one is pretty much in the middle, many nicer, but many worser.
Jul 20, 2022 · Gard “CampingCoastie.com” SnyderPark has a ton of potential. However, staff has no pride of ownership and no work ethic. Watched an electrician fix a 20amp outlet and he left his trash on the ground when he was done.Simple RV Campground stuck out on the beach of Lake Michigan at the Great Lakes Naval Trng Station. You would think that a base dedicated to instilling pride in it's recruits would find it easy to care for this small 20 spot FamCamp.20 electric only sites. No water, no sewer. They are both available but 1/2 mile from the park and they aren't in the same location and the dump station is difficult for big rig access. It would be easy to solve by adding sew/wat to the sites.Access is pretty easy but the road in the park is gravel and not cared for. Potholes galore. Big rigs beware. Also, each site suffers from lake affect issues. Meaning, when it rains a lake is formed in front of your rig. All of these are easily solved with #1 asphalt or #2 a grater from time to time. All that said, this is a beautiful location with tons to do. Which is why it got a 3 rating. It just needs some TLC from the NAF staff that "should" keep it "spit and polished" like the recruiters who are trained here. Come on, show the military personnel, veterans and civilians who visit your base and enjoy your grounds some pride in ownership.Come on Great Lakes...show us how it's done!
Oct 01, 2022 · Troy “TBones” WestbrookI was not expecting much as the reviews were very bad, but I like to save my opinion to experience things for myself. Which I did, and here are my thoughts.1. Full time campers with their sites full of junk. *see photos. One guy even had an inflatable hot tub, which I could not figure out where he got the water from as all the sites are without water and sewer.2. Pit toilets were nasty dirty and not cleaned once during our stay.3. Campsites so cramped you could hear water running in the next RV.4. One full timer had his black/gray tank hose emptying into and open home depot bucket.5. Showers are dirty and in another building a mile away.6. Lets not forget the loop road! Pot holes as big as a crater. Third world countries have better roads than this. This Naval Station is absolutely gorgeous. Chock full of historic buildings and so well preserved. It was utterly shocking to see this gem of a base have such a poorly maintained and embarrassing campground. The view from camping was stunning and should be capitalized on. The CO should be ashamed for not overseeing better management.
Jul 27, 2021 · Deborah Tracythis site has been good to us! tons of wonderful full timers living there. basically a small village of like minded folks! "junk" photos are usually of the foam boards or yearly materails being cleaned out NEEDED for insulation to stay warm during the cold months and not have water, gray or black tanks freeze and explode.ROAD AND PARKING SPOTS NEED WORK!!!!! pot holes are more like craters and rv spots flood with 3-4 inches of water in some spots which causes damange to rv and utility materials. this also causes MASSIVE safety concerns!!!!! water in some spots backs up to the electric polls or saturates the ground so electricl cords from the polls are in puddles. the "puddles" in the parking spots being so deep turn to ice and there are many kids (let alone pregnant women and elders) who live/visit here and can slip and fall. some residents have taken to TRYING to fill the puddles however its sad it has come to them having to do this as its not their job to maintain the facility itself. this is the biggest concern ive heard since being here and we havent heard any plans on fixing the issue.facilities are clean and regularly maintained. the site are only electric but water filling stations and a dump site is provided within a 1 mile distance from the park. the staff does their best to give warming of facility closures either due to maintenance or what have you.quite hours are 10pm-6am and are observed well by the residents so no issues there!!the view of the lake is STUNNING all day but those sunrises and sunsets are breath taking!!!over all a great place but these safety concerns need addressing please!
