Smithwoods RV Park Introduce
For local users seeking "RV parks near me" in the Felton, California area, Smithwoods RV Park, located at 4770 Hwy 9, presents itself as an option nestled within a "pretty spot" with "loads of trees." This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of the park based on the available customer reviews, highlighting both its potential natural appeal and some reported drawbacks to help local users make an informed decision.
Location and Environment:
Smithwoods RV Park is situated on Highway 9 in Felton, CA. Felton is a town located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, known for its redwood forests and natural scenic beauty. The reviews corroborate this, with one describing the location as a "pretty spot loads of trees." This suggests that the park offers a camping experience immersed in a wooded environment, likely providing shade and a sense of being surrounded by nature. The Santa Cruz Mountains are a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering opportunities for hiking, exploring redwood groves, and enjoying a more secluded and natural setting.
The presence of "loads of trees" is a significant environmental feature, potentially offering a cooler and more shaded camping experience, especially during warmer months. However, as noted by one reviewer, the dense tree canopy can also have implications for connectivity, as it reportedly results in "very limited and extremely poor cell service" and prevents satellite internet services like Starlink from working. This is an important consideration for those who rely on internet access or strong cellular signals during their travels.
One reviewer mentioned having visited the campground for the past four summers and enjoyed it, indicating that the natural environment and the campground itself have been appealing enough for repeat visits despite some other concerns. The "decent sized sites" also contribute positively to the environment, suggesting that campers have adequate space to set up their RVs and enjoy their surroundings without feeling too cramped.
Services and Amenities:
The customer reviews provide some insights into the services and amenities at Smithwoods RV Park, although with mixed feedback. One of the primary concerns raised is regarding the staff. One reviewer with multiple years of experience at the park described the staff as "always a little unfriendly" and recounted a negative experience involving a booking cancellation and rude customer service from the owner. This is a significant point for potential visitors to consider, as the quality of staff interaction can greatly impact the overall camping experience. The reviewer explicitly stated they would "NOT RECOMMEND COMING OR BOOKING HERE due to the extremely rude and unprofessional staff."
Another key area of concern highlighted in the reviews is the condition of the facilities. One reviewer noted that "the bathrooms and showers are showing their age," suggesting that these essential amenities might be outdated or not as well-maintained as some visitors might expect. This is an important factor for those who prioritize clean and modern restroom and shower facilities during their RV stays.
Regarding connectivity, as mentioned earlier, the Wi-Fi is described as "very limited and extremely poor," and cell service is also poor due to the tree canopy. The inability to use satellite internet further restricts internet access options for those who rely on it. However, the same reviewer also ironically noted that this lack of connectivity makes it a "great spot to get the kids to disconnect!!!!" highlighting a potential benefit for those seeking a digital detox during their camping trip.
The reviews do not mention other common RV park amenities such as a laundry room, swimming pool, playground, or a camp store. The absence of these mentions does not necessarily mean they are not available, but it suggests they were not significant enough to be commented on by these reviewers.
Features and Highlights:
Despite the concerns raised, Smithwoods RV Park does have some potential features and highlights, primarily related to its natural setting. The "pretty spot" with "loads of trees" offers a desirable environment for those who enjoy camping in a wooded area. The "decent sized sites" provide adequate space for RVs and camping setups.
The location in Felton provides access to the attractions of the Santa Cruz Mountains, including redwood forests, hiking trails, and the scenic beauty of the region. For those looking to disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in nature, the poor cell service and limited Wi-Fi could be seen as a feature, encouraging a more unplugged experience.
However, the negative feedback regarding the staff's unfriendliness and unprofessionalism, as well as the aging bathrooms and showers, are significant drawbacks that potential visitors need to weigh against the natural appeal of the location.
The contrast in the positive description of the natural setting and the negative experiences with staff and facilities creates a somewhat complex picture of Smithwoods RV Park.

Its location in the Santa Cruz Mountains provides access to the scenic beauty of the region and a chance to disconnect from technology due to poor cell service and limited Wi-Fi. For local users searching for "RV parks near me" in Felton, Smithwoods RV Park presents a trade-off between a potentially lovely natural setting and reported issues with customer service and facilities. It is strongly recommended that prospective guests contact the park directly to inquire about the current state of the amenities and to get a sense of the management's approach. Smithwoods RV Park Reviews
I had gone here for the past 4 summers and had a great time although the staff was always a little unfriendly, we continued to go because we enjoyed the camp ground. This past year the lady in the office booked us too far in advance and there was no policy written anywhere that you couldn’t book over a year in advance but she still booked us. About two weeks later we got a call saying our reservation was canceled because it was too far in advance and that they had given our reservations to someone else. When we called the owner to talk about the situation and how the lady let us book and never mentioned a policy he was EXTREMELY rude and said that if we didn’t like what they did we could book somewhere else. He was one of the most unprofessional and unfriendly business owners I’ve ever experienced. I would NOT RECOMMEND COMING OR BOOKING HERE due to the extremely rude and unprofessional staff.
Mar 30, 2025 · Madison WolffPretty spot loads of trees , decent sized sites. Unfortunately the bathrooms and showers are showing there age. Wi fi is very limited and extremely poor cell service, your starling won't work either due to the tree canopy. Its great spot to get the kids to disconnect!!!!And you also....
Mar 04, 2025 · grant IGourgous! Pet friendly. So cute and beautiful. It rained I was happy.Very nice people. We called before we headed up they waited for us. And then left for the day. They have power and water sewer hook ups.Winter visit.Only down is you can not get T-Mobile data and the free internet did not reach us so we had to pay for internet which was 8$ for 6 hours.
Dec 31, 2024 · Roze CMA; CPTThis is a well-maintained, forest-rich, RV location, located close to Henry Cowell State Park, Two different train rides, (1 to the coast & 1 to the mountains). A beautiful covered bridge and it's only a few miles to Santa Cruz!30 & 50 amp available! (Alas, no internet to speak of.) We brought our Verizon box and had the circle of death more than getting to watch TV . But they do have a small room for WiFi.
Feb 26, 2025 · Dava SerbantesThe location of the park is good. The redwoods are all around and provide great shade. Campsites are very close to each other. The campground is dated and the owners should put some money back into the place. There is limited (if any) cell phone service and if you want wifi you will need to huddle up in there “wifiroom” to get it.We were there for Labor Day weekend. One of their communal bathrooms was out of service and they did not have any ice available to buy. We had to walk over to the campground next door to get a bag (Cotillion Gardens RV Park).I read reviews of how the staff is and would tend to agree with their assessment. They were not very welcoming, but they were not rude. Almost seemed liked they didn’t want to be there.I think next time we’re in Felton, we will stay at Cotillion Gardens RV Park.
