119 Rivers Edge Campground Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts in the Julian, West Virginia area, particularly those interested in ATV riding and kayaking, 119 Rivers Edge Campground, located at 462 Adams Rd, presents an exciting option within the "camping near me" category. This campground's prime location offers direct access to the popular Ivy Branch of the Hatfield-McCoy (H&M) Trails and the river, making it a haven for adventure seekers. Beyond its recreational appeal, the campground also provides a welcoming community atmosphere and essential amenities for a comfortable stay.
The environment at 119 Rivers Edge Campground is uniquely defined by its proximity to both natural attractions and transportation routes. Situated in-between a major road and the river, with a railroad beyond that, the campground offers a blend of accessibility and natural beauty. While the riverfront sites boast "beautiful" views, they are noted as being "skinny," making them more suitable for smaller campers. Campers with larger rigs might find the spaces in the middle of the campground more accommodating in terms of size, although these sites may lack the direct river view. The entire area is described as "newish" and covered in gravel, which contributes to easy navigation around the campground. For those with pets, there is a designated "good area" for dog walking behind the overflow parking.
In terms of services and features, 119 Rivers Edge Campground provides essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, allowing for outdoor dining and campfires. The availability of city water is a significant advantage mentioned by a reviewer. On-site facilities include an office and separate men's and women's restrooms. There is also an overflow parking area to accommodate extra vehicles and trailers, which is particularly useful for those visiting for ATV activities and bringing additional equipment.
A notable aspect of 119 Rivers Edge Campground is its direct access to recreational activities. It is "great for ATV rides and kayaks," making it a primary destination for those interested in exploring the extensive H&M Trails and enjoying the river. The campground attracts many visitors, especially on weekends, who come specifically for ATV tours and rides. This focus on adventure sports creates a lively and active atmosphere within the campground community.
The sense of community and the helpfulness of the staff are recurring positive themes in the visitor reviews. Junior, who is mentioned as running the campground day-to-day, is consistently praised for his friendliness and attentiveness, regularly checking in with campers to ensure they are enjoying their stay. The owners are also highlighted for their exceptional kindness and willingness to go above and beyond to assist campers, even in unexpected situations like severe weather or off-site emergencies. This strong sense of community and the proactive support from the owners and staff contribute significantly to the positive experiences of the guests.
While the proximity to the road and railroad results in some noise, with one reviewer noting that the road noise "does get a little loud" but was manageable, and the train noise was "not bad," this is a factor potential visitors should be aware of. However, the positive aspects of the campground, such as the friendly service, the recreational access, and the community spirit, seem to outweigh this for many visitors.
The presence of some seasonal campers, full-timers, and workers is mentioned but not presented as a negative, suggesting a diverse and potentially close-knit community within the campground. The efforts of J.R., who is recognized for keeping the grounds "very neat and upkept" and always working hard, contribute to the overall positive impression of the campground's maintenance and care.
Promotional information is primarily conveyed through the enthusiastic testimonials of satisfied campers. The recurring mentions of the beautiful river view, the convenient access to ATV trails and South Charleston, the level stone sites, the availability of city water, and the exceptional kindness of the owners and Junior serve as strong endorsements. The stories of the owners and fellow campers coming to the rescue during a storm and assisting people in an off-site accident highlight a level of care and community spirit that is a significant draw.
To inquire about specific campsite availability, pricing (which is not mentioned in the reviews), potential discounts for longer stays or ATV enthusiasts, or any specific guidelines related to ATV usage and river access, it is recommended to contact 119 Rivers Edge Campground directly at (304) 369-5400 or +1 304-369-5400. You may also want to ask about any organized ATV events or kayaking opportunities associated with the campground. Given its proximity to the Ivy Branch of the H&M Trails and South Charleston (only 20 minutes away), it serves as a convenient base for both outdoor adventures and access to urban amenities.
In conclusion, for local residents seeking "camping near me" in the Julian, WV area, particularly those passionate about ATV riding and kayaking, 119 Rivers Edge Campground offers a compelling combination of recreational access, scenic river views (for some sites), essential amenities like city water, and a strong, supportive community. The exceptional service from the owners and staff, along with the well-maintained grounds, contributes to a positive and memorable camping experience. While some noise from the nearby road and railroad is to be expected, the overall benefits and the enthusiastic reviews from fellow campers make 119 Rivers Edge Campground a highly recommended destination for adventure and community in the heart of West Virginia.

119 Rivers Edge Campground Reviews
Great for ATV rides and kayaks. We aren't into either. Many people there, especially on the weekends come in for ATV tours and rides. There is a nice overflow parking area for extra vehicles and trailers. The spaces close to the river are skinny. Very skinny, unless you have a small camper, you are cramped. The area in the middle have larger spaces, but really no view. we opted for river. They were not busy during the week, and was allowed to park in the space beside ours for convenience of unloading groceries and such. They have a picnic table and fire ring at each site. They do have some seasonal, full timers, and workers who stay there. Which is perfectly fine. The whole area is newish, and all gravel. It is very easy to navigate around. There is an office and mens/womens restroom on site. There is also a good area for people with dogs to walk behind the overflow parking. Besides that, there is nothing else. The campground is in-between a major road and the river, with railroad beyond that. The road noise does get a little loud, but was fine. The train was not bad.I do want to shout out to J.R., who keeps the grounds very neat and upkept. He is such a nice guy, and can see his children playing around. He works so hard - always doing something.
Aug 15, 2023 · Cindi MarshallLoved this campground!! It's conveniently located by the Ivy branch of H&M trails and close to South Charleston. So if you need to go to town for anything it's only 20 minutes up the road. Must mention, this campground has city water!! The stone sites are pretty level and the river view is so beautiful. The owners and Junior (who runs it day to day) are some of the nicest people I have come across. Junior stopped by several times just to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. We had a downpour that took out our awnings as well as a few other campers. The owner and several other campers all came to the rescue. The owner even went to get his work truck for tools! The last day of our stay the owners heard a crash on the mountain across the street and hopped on their side by side to try and find the people to help. They found them and helped get their UTVs back up the mountain and helped them down to the waiting ambulance. How much better can people be!?! We will definitely be back for another stay!!
Jul 05, 2022 · Joleen Youngpeter1st time camping here and riding near ivy branch. JR the man that takes care of the campground is the nicest man. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was awesome. Anything from directions, to suggestions, taken care of the campground, and even took us on a 3-4 hr tour of the trails to show us around. The lady at front (didn't catch name) was very polite and nice. We will be back later in the year for more fun. Thank you 119 rivers edge campground. 5+stars
May 06, 2024 · GaryJenn68We love this campground. It is cozy and quiet. They are still remodeling but does not affect the campground in any way. Our lot was level and made it so easy after a long trip. Great cell signal and when stayed in lot 11 had great Wi-Fi. Close to grocery store and gas station. The view in the back is lovely check out the pictures. We will definitely be coming back when in the area
