Backyard Burdickville Introduce
For local users in the Empire, Michigan area seeking "camping near me" with exceptional proximity to the renowned Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and other local attractions, Backyard Burdickville, located at 3805 W Empire Hwy, Empire, MI 49630, USA, offers a conveniently situated camping option. While a phone number is not provided in the available information, its address on a major highway suggests it might be easily found or contacted through online search engines or local directories. Based on recent customer reviews, Backyard Burdickville presents a camping experience characterized by its prime location, accommodating hosts, and a rustic charm, albeit with some roadside visibility.
One of the most significant advantages of Backyard Burdickville, as highlighted by a reviewer, is its "prime location because of how close it is to the dunes." For local users planning to explore the stunning landscapes and recreational opportunities of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, this campground offers unparalleled convenience. The short distance allows for easy and frequent access to hiking trails, scenic overlooks, and the iconic dunes themselves, maximizing the time spent enjoying this natural treasure.
However, the same reviewer also notes a potential environmental consideration: "you are off a busy road & across the street are two shipping containers (kind of an eye sore)." This suggests that while the location is advantageous for accessing attractions, the immediate surroundings of the campground might include some visual elements that detract from a completely natural aesthetic. The proximity to a busy road could also imply some level of traffic noise, which might be a consideration for campers seeking absolute peace and quiet.
Despite these potential drawbacks related to the immediate environment, the hosts at Backyard Burdickville consistently receive high praise. The reviewer states, "The hosts make up for all of that though and the availability as well. They were so accommodating brought out a grill for us and the store they have on the grounds is amazing! Would go back." This level of hospitality and helpfulness from the hosts can significantly enhance the camping experience, creating a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The willingness to go above and beyond, such as providing a grill for guests, demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the presence of an "amazing" on-site store adds a significant convenience factor, allowing campers to purchase essentials, snacks, or perhaps even local goods without having to travel far.
Another reviewer who "loved tent camping here" describes it as "a great little escape! Not super crowded or loud." This suggests that Backyard Burdickville offers a more intimate and relaxed camping atmosphere compared to larger, more bustling campgrounds. The lack of excessive crowds or noise can be a major draw for local users seeking a peaceful retreat in nature.
This reviewer also recommends bringing "a couple of yard games to play during the day, and sit and watch the stars at night!" This implies that the campground offers open space suitable for daytime activities and, importantly, excellent conditions for stargazing. The reviewer notes, "It's open so you get a great view of the stars!" The dark skies away from city lights in this region of Michigan are renowned for their exceptional stargazing opportunities, and Backyard Burdickville seems to capitalize on this natural feature.
Furthermore, the campground's location remains a key advantage, as the reviewer mentions, "Not far from attractions either. Short drive to sleeping bear dunes and nice beaches! Highly recommended if you love rustic camping!" This reinforces the prime location for accessing not only the dunes but also the beautiful beaches along Lake Michigan, offering a variety of outdoor recreational options for local campers.
The final sentiment of this reviewer, "Highly recommended if you love rustic camping!" provides important insight into the type of camping experience offered at Backyard Burdickville. "Rustic camping" typically implies a more basic setup, often focused on tent camping with fewer modern amenities compared to RV parks or more developed campgrounds. Local users seeking a more traditional and nature-focused camping experience will likely find Backyard Burdickville appealing.
Based on the reviews, Backyard Burdickville offers a unique combination of a highly convenient location for accessing Sleeping Bear Dunes and nearby beaches, coupled with the charm of a rustic camping experience enhanced by accommodating hosts and a well-regarded on-site store. While the immediate environment might have some visual drawbacks due to the roadside location and shipping containers, the overall positive experiences shared by campers highlight the welcoming atmosphere and the prime access to natural attractions.
Given the emphasis on tent camping and the description as "rustic," local users should likely expect more basic amenities. Information on specific services such as restrooms, water sources, or fire pits is not explicitly provided in the reviews. It would be prudent for interested campers to inquire about these details when seeking to book a site, perhaps through online booking platforms or by attempting to contact the hosts directly through any available channels. Understanding the available amenities will help ensure a comfortable and well-prepared camping trip.
In conclusion, for local users in the Empire, MI area prioritizing close proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and nearby beaches for their "camping near me" experience, Backyard Burdickville offers a compelling option. The accommodating hosts and the convenience of an on-site store add significant value to the rustic camping atmosphere. While the roadside location and the presence of shipping containers might be a visual consideration, the exceptional access to natural attractions and the positive experiences of other campers, particularly those who enjoy a more traditional camping style and excellent stargazing, make Backyard Burdickville a recommended choice for a local getaway. Further investigation into the specific amenities available would be beneficial for planning a trip to this conveniently located campground.

Aug 13, 2023 · Jessica MartinFormerly known as Eagle's Meadow in the past. It's a nice, quaint & rustic campground in the shadows of Sleeping Bear Dunes, just east of Empire Beach. It is what it is and you get what you pay for...a nice rustic campground. Come prepared. Best for boondocking in a self sufficient camper/RV. NO WATER/ELECTRIC HOOKUPS.BUT....the stary night skies provide an awesome backdrop as you fall asleep while being entertained from the lullabies of the coyotes.
Jun 08, 2022 · Security Officer JeffBeautiful and spacious area for peace and quiet. After talking to the owner, found out we grew up in the same city down state. Very friendly and price was great. Gloomy day when we came, but I bet this is a great place on better weather days.
