Bar Harbor Campground Introduce
For those seeking an ideal "camping near me" location to experience the wonders of Acadia National Park and the vibrant town of Bar Harbor, Bar Harbor Campground, situated at 409 ME-3, Bar Harbor, ME 04609, USA, presents a compelling option. While recent changes in ownership have elicited varied responses from long-time visitors, the campground continues to offer a strategically located base for exploring this stunning region of Maine.
The environment of Bar Harbor Campground benefits significantly from its excellent proximity to both Acadia National Park and the town of Bar Harbor. This prime location allows campers easy access to the park's diverse landscapes, including rocky coastlines, granite mountains, and serene lakes, as well as the shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions of Bar Harbor. One recent visitor who stayed in the "tent only ocean front lot" last year and returned to the "S loop" this year highlights the appealing environment, noting that the spaces were "large and private." This suggests that despite being close to key attractions, the campground offers a sense of seclusion and ample space for campers to relax and enjoy their surroundings. While the campground may not be within the National Park itself, its close proximity offers a convenient alternative, with some reviewers even finding the sites here "nicer, larger and quieter" than those within the park. The potential for oceanfront lots adds a unique environmental feature for those seeking a coastal camping experience.
Bar Harbor Campground offers a range of services aimed at ensuring a comfortable and convenient stay for its guests. Recent feedback indicates that the bathrooms are "clean and well stocked," with one visitor noting that they "saw someone most mornings cleaning them," reflecting a commitment to hygiene. The availability of "hot" showers is also appreciated by campers. For added convenience, a "laundry facility on site" is available, making it easier for longer stays or those needing to refresh their clothes. The staff encountered by at least one recent visitor were described as "incredibly friendly," suggesting a welcoming and helpful atmosphere. However, it's important to note a significant change in policy under the new ownership (American Campgrounds) regarding campsite selection. Previously, the campground operated on a "first come first service" basis with the choice of campsite, but this is no longer the case. Additionally, a long-time visitor mentioned the discontinuation of benefits for staying more than a week. While these policy changes might impact returning guests with prior expectations, the fundamental services of clean facilities, hot showers, laundry, and friendly staff appear to remain in place.
The features of Bar Harbor Campground contribute to its appeal as a "camping near me" option. The availability of "large and private" campsites, as mentioned by a recent visitor, is a significant feature, offering more space and seclusion compared to some other camping options, including those within the National Park. The presence of both tent-only and potentially RV sites (though not explicitly detailed, it is common for campgrounds in this area) caters to a variety of camping preferences. The on-site laundry facility adds a practical feature for extended stays. The excellent proximity to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor remains a key feature, providing easy access to a wide range of outdoor activities, dining, and entertainment. While a long-term visitor noted the absence of "improvements" under the new ownership, the existing features of spacious sites, clean facilities, and a convenient location continue to be advantages. The availability of "ocean front lot" options for tent camping is a unique feature that sets this campground apart for those seeking a coastal experience.
Information regarding current promotional offers at Bar Harbor Campground is not provided in the available reviews. However, it is common for campgrounds to have seasonal rates, discounts for longer stays (despite the noted discontinuation of a specific benefit for stays over a week), or potential packages. To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date details on any special offers or discounts, local users are encouraged to contact Bar Harbor Campground directly at (207) 288-5185 or +1 207-288-5185. Inquiring about rates for different types of sites (tent vs. RV, oceanfront vs. interior), as well as any potential discounts for off-peak seasons or extended stays, would be beneficial. Given the campground's location and positive aspects highlighted in recent reviews, it is advisable to book in advance, especially during the popular summer and fall seasons, to secure a desired campsite. Checking their official website, if available, might also provide information on pricing and promotions.
In conclusion, Bar Harbor Campground offers a conveniently located "camping near me" option for exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Recent reviews highlight the spacious and private campsites, clean and well-maintained facilities (including bathrooms and hot showers), and the friendliness of the staff. While changes in ownership have led to some policy adjustments, the fundamental appeal of the campground lies in its prime location and comfortable amenities. For those seeking a well-situated basecamp with larger, more private sites than some alternatives, Bar Harbor Campground remains a strong contender. Contacting the campground directly for the latest information on pricing and any available promotions is recommended to plan your Acadia and Bar Harbor camping adventure.

Bar Harbor Campground Reviews
We stayed here last year for a night in the tent only ocean front lot. We came back this year for a week in the S loop. I was a little nervous reading the reviews on the new ownership but we had a wonderful time. The spaces were large and private. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. I saw someone most mornings cleaning them. Showers were hot! All of the staff we met were incredibly friendly. There is a laundry facility on site. Excellent proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor. We have camped in the National Park before but the sites here are much nicer, larger and quieter. We can’t wait to return!
Sep 24, 2024 · Melissa SeatonMy husband and I have been going here for over 30 yrs and was always pleased until last year when it was taken over by American Campgrounds. No more first come first service, no choice of campsite, no benefit for staying more than a week. No improvements made either. Very sad
Jan 03, 2025 · Karen HolleyThe Bar Harbor Campground is very well kept and clean. It has several bathrooms with showers spread throughout the grounds, as well as trash dumpsters and water lines. The grounds are beautiful with a mix of open sites along the ocean side and protected/wooded sites deeper in. There’s also a small pond with campsites around it.The sites are very small. Between the picnic table and fire pit, our tent was basically touching the car. There was no room! The campground is exactly in the right spot. It’s close to Bar Harbor but far enough away to be secluded from the crowds.
Oct 15, 2024 · Ryan JohnsonGreat campground with amazing views of the bay. The campground was huge with great trails running along the coast. The trail was in a meadow, with pretty plants, wild Maine blueberries, and wild cranberries. The campsites were clean and pretty. The sites were also mainly free of bugs. The laundry room was nice. Wash and dry were 1 dollar, and there was a change machine that accepted 1 and 5 dollar bills. The public bathroom was sort of clean, and the showers were really nice. The shower was a quarter for 5 minutes. There was also a nice TV room and a quaint little rustic arcade. There was a lobster place right across the street from the campground (of course), and there was a bus stop that shuttles people around Acadia for free. I love this campground, and I highly suggest you stay here if you’re visiting Acadia!
Jul 17, 2024 · Eason CaiVERY DISAPPOINTED WITH NEW MANAGEMENT! Our family have been very happy campers under the previous owners for many memorable years. What made this campground exceptional was their flexible model of first come first serve and owners who genuinely cared about their loyal campers, many native to Maine. Over the years we met some wonderful residents who appreciated how affordable it was to take their family on vacation. We recently had to cancel our reservation due to an unexpected family issue and were not able to get a refund. The previous owners understood their clientele and were very fair as they weighed each incident as needed. The new owners seem to use their policy as a one size fits all rather than trying to work with and accommodate existing customers during this transition. This campground grew and excelled over the years from word of mouth and sadly I don't see this to be the case now. Prices have doubled and the overall satisfaction with management is questionable for many regulars. It's a shame what has unfolded and for many families, this beautiful location will no longer be an option.
