When searching for the perfect "camping near me" experience, understanding what a campground offers in terms of environment, services, and unique features is key. Batesville KOA Journey aims to provide a welcoming environment for various types of campers, as reflected in the feedback from recent visitors.
According to online reviews, Batesville KOA Journey is appreciated for its attentive and friendly host. One reviewer specifically highlighted the host's dedication and helpfulness, noting their constant presence and willingness to assist. This positive feedback suggests a well-managed and guest-oriented experience.
The campground itself features multiple sections with various campsites. A notable feature mentioned by a visitor is the presence of large fire pits, which can enhance the camping experience, especially for those who enjoy campfires. For families, the campground offers amenities such as a basketball court and a playground that was positively rated by a 13-year-old. Additionally, beanbag toss games are available, although it seems guests need to bring their own beanbags.
While guests have generally enjoyed their stays, some areas for improvement have been noted. These include the condition of the grounds, with suggestions for more gravel on the driveways leading to sites and the use of hay or straw in muddy areas. Addressing standing water at some sites and increasing the number of full hook-up pull-through sites were also mentioned as potential enhancements.
One reviewer shared a concern about the placement of their fire pit, feeling it was too close to a neighbor's window and too far from their own campsite, while also being near the road. However, this same reviewer also mentioned having a wonderful time during their visit and appreciated the campground's ability to accommodate six families on short notice, indicating good capacity and management.
An update from a returning visitor highlighted improvements, noting a spacious pull-through site with a nice fire pit. They also observed ongoing updates and upgrades to the grounds, which suggests that the management is actively working on enhancing the camper experience. Despite these improvements, the need for more gravel on some sites and better management of water puddling persists as areas for further attention.
Another visitor, who had previously stayed at the Thousand Trails section located on the same 600+ acre property, shared their positive first impression of the KOA side. They noted level and shaded sites. Excitingly, they mentioned that there were plans for significant upgrades in 2020, including site-accessible Wi-Fi and a new second pool. The combined property offers access to a lake for swimming, a nice pool, and large playgrounds, which this reviewer considered a good value. The friendly staff and the overall maintenance of the campground, despite some rustic areas, were also appreciated. This visitor expressed their intention to return.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Batesville KOA Journey presents a compelling option with a range of amenities and a friendly atmosphere. The planned upgrades, including Wi-Fi and a new pool, suggest an ongoing commitment to improving the guest experience. The availability of both shaded and level sites caters to different preferences, and the recreational facilities like the basketball court, playgrounds, and lake access make it particularly appealing for families.
Considering the feedback, potential campers should anticipate a generally positive experience with friendly and helpful staff. While some ground improvements are still in progress, the overall value, especially with the combined amenities of the KOA and Thousand Trails properties, seems attractive. The large fire pits are a definite plus for those who enjoy evening campfires, and the spacious sites, particularly the pull-through ones, offer comfort and convenience.
If you are looking for "camping near me" that offers a blend of recreational activities and a welcoming community feel, Batesville KOA Journey could be a great choice. The planned upgrades indicate a forward-thinking approach to enhancing the campground. While some minor inconveniences related to ground conditions and site layout have been mentioned, the positive aspects, such as the friendly host, family-friendly amenities, and the potential for future improvements, make it a campground worth considering for your next local camping trip.

Batesville KOA Journey Reviews
This is a 3.5 rating in my opinion but it has to be a 3 or 4 star. Awesome host, very attentive, pleasant, polite and helpful. She is everywhere and doing everything. The campgrounds have several sites in multiple sections. I love the large fire pits. There is plenty for the children to do, basketball court included the 13 year old rated it 4 or 5 and stated it's a pretty nice playground. There are sever beanbag toss games. I believe you have to bring your own bags. I wish there was a little more effort put into the grounds themselves. Gravel on the drives going to the sites, hay/straw for areas where mud is present, fill in some of the standing water sites and have a few more full hook up pull through sites. Also, I was not happy with the location of my firepit, I felt like we were right outside our neighbors window. It was too far from the site itself and too close to the road. We had a wonderful time while we were here and this was our second visit. I was happy there were sites for all 6 families in a short time period.Update: We had a pull through site this time. The site was very spacious and the fire pit was nice. We had to pull in the other direction for the door to be on the camp side. The staff was just as friendly this trip as they have been in the past. It is obvious they are updating and upgrading the grounds. They still need to invest in adding more Gravel to some of the sites and manage the areas where the water puddles. I was planning to do a video but time got away from me. Also, know that there is also a Thousand Trails on the same property.
Apr 24, 2022 · Sallie McFarlinThis is our first time at the KOA but had stayed previously in the thousand trails side last year. The KOA has level sites and plenty are shaded. We were told that there are a lot of upgrades planned for 2020 for the entire campground including site accessible Wi-Fi and a new second pool. The 600+acre combined campground is a good value when considering a lake to swim in, a nice pool, and large playgrounds for the kids. Lots of area to bike around or just walk. Very friendly staff and the campground is maintained thigh still rustic in areas. We plan to be back at least once or twice next year.
Sep 29, 2019 · Sam M cCoyUnfortunately, 2 out of the 4 nights we were there were party nights, and it was rowdy, but the campers did quiet down when they were supposed to. The campgrounds is huge, pretty, and nicely maintained. The staff we encountered were very friendly and accommodating. I would stay there again.
Oct 22, 2024 · Lyn RegenauerGate staff are always friendly, prompt and helpful and it’s a beautifully kept park. The real gem of the place is the wonderful people who call it camp.
Mar 27, 2025 · Patrick M. DargieThis is a review for the Thousand Trails sections as well as the KOA parts. We have been coming here for years but have been away for about 6 years. This resort has improved dramatically!1. Many more TT sites with even MORE UNDER CONSTRUCTION.2. A whole new area of recreational items which include a huge children's play area, GREAT sand filled volley Ball Court, 8-10 new horseshoe pits, a full size basketball court and many paved roads have been added. This place is "hopin" on the weekends and loads of fun. NICE JOB ELS! We WILL be back!
