Wheelock Lake Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in southeastern Indiana? If so, you might be considering Wheelock Lake Campground, located at 3622 E Co Rd 200 S, Dillsboro, IN 47018, USA. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (812) 487-3855 or their mobile number, +1 812-487-3855.
When looking for a place to camp, understanding the environment, available services, and unique features is crucial. Wheelock Lake Campground aims to provide a space for outdoor enthusiasts. However, it's important to consider some feedback from recent visitors to get a comprehensive picture.
Based on online reviews, the experience at Wheelock Lake Campground appears to be varied. One reviewer mentioned a significant police presence related to full-time residents, which might be a point of consideration for those seeking a purely recreational weekend getaway. This suggests that the campground hosts both temporary campers and long-term residents.
Another review paints a picture of a lively, and perhaps at times disruptive, atmosphere. This visitor described a high volume of golf carts, ATVs, razors, and a dirt bike operating within the campground, with frequent vehicle traffic, sometimes late into the night and involving drivers of various ages and potentially varying levels of sobriety. This reviewer also noted the occurrence of fireworks within the campground, which, given the proximity of campsites, raised safety concerns. They also pointed out issues such as a lack of clear site markers, an office that closes early even on holiday weekends, the absence of gates or security, and no available internet despite it being advertised. On a more positive note, this reviewer found the staff they encountered to be friendly. They also mentioned the lack of a picnic table at their site and an inconveniently placed fire ring.
Considering these firsthand accounts, potential visitors looking for "camping near me" should be aware that Wheelock Lake Campground might offer a less traditional camping experience. The emphasis seems to be less on quiet nature immersion and more on a community atmosphere with a significant amount of internal vehicle activity.
For local users searching for "camping near me," it's essential to weigh these aspects against your preferences. If you are looking for a serene and quiet natural retreat, the experiences shared by some visitors suggest that Wheelock Lake Campground might not fully align with those expectations. The reported prevalence of vehicle traffic within the campground and the late-night activity could impact the tranquility of your stay.
On the other hand, if you are seeking a more communal and active camping environment, perhaps with the opportunity to use recreational vehicles within the grounds, Wheelock Lake Campground might offer that. However, it's crucial to be prepared for the potential downsides highlighted in the reviews, such as the noise from vehicles, the lack of internet, and the limited office hours.
When searching for "camping near me," local options often provide a convenient escape. Wheelock Lake Campground is geographically accessible to those in the Dillsboro, Indiana area. However, it's recommended that prospective campers manage their expectations based on the available feedback. While some aspects, like friendly staff, were mentioned positively, the overall experience seems to be characterized by a more informal and potentially less regulated environment than some might anticipate from a typical campground.
To make an informed decision about your "camping near me" choice, consider what aspects of camping are most important to you. If peace and quiet, clear site markings, security, and amenities like internet are high on your list, you might want to inquire specifically about these aspects when contacting Wheelock Lake Campground. Alternatively, exploring other options for "camping near me" in the region might be beneficial to find a campground that better suits your desired camping experience.
In summary, Wheelock Lake Campground offers a camping option in Dillsboro, Indiana. However, based on recent reviews, it appears to be a campground with a unique character that may not appeal to all types of campers. The presence of long-term residents, the significant use of recreational vehicles within the grounds, and the reported late-night activity are factors to consider. While the staff has been noted as friendly, issues such as the lack of internet, limited office hours, and site inconsistencies have also been mentioned. For locals searching for "camping near me," it's advisable to take these points into account when deciding if Wheelock Lake Campground is the right destination for their next outdoor adventure.

Wheelock Lake Campground Reviews
If you live here full time, you need a background check etc. No big deal, right? But when you see 4 cops pull up mid night and you walk back to check it out and you hear them yell “So and so open the door it’s state police. We have a warrant for your arrest we’ll send the K9 in!” It makes you wonder why you as a person without a speeding ticket had to pay for your background check. This is a campground where people live, a lot of the lower class, dirty type. To just say it plainly. Don’t come for the weekend you’ll be disappointed. Hope this helps
Dec 29, 2024 · Ross Chevrolet1977Not like anyplace we have ever camped before. We had a corner site which was awful. The amount of golf carts, atv, razors and a dirt bike is ridiculous with everyone driving no matter what the age or alcohol consumption. At night is even more fun, all vehicles come out in force in 1 hour we had 40 drive by our site, and it lasts until at least 1:15am. Let's not forget the fireworks in the campground, with everyone so close I can't believe a trailer didn't catch on fire. There is very few site markers and the office closes at 6pm even on a holiday weekend. No gates. No security. No Internet and yes it was advertised I even tried to get it on my phone figuring it was our Firestick and no luck. The staff when I did see them were really nice. Unfortunately we also had no picnic table and the fire ring that we are not supposed to move was in-between the electric and water spigot. We did try to contact the night we came in thru email and no response to that either.
Sep 04, 2023 · Doug NewWe were going to camp at this campground, I have a new job in the area. Muddy roads potholes Ragdoll rundown RVs and mobile homes you can see a lot of razors and other karts and stuff that make noise you talk to the people and they say Well they're trying to get it to be better they've owned it for 4 years how much more time do you need it looks like a third world country I would not feel safe leaving my family there while I go to work decided to drive 30 more minutes away from the job site
Jan 02, 2025 · Jay StegmanWe were fired-up about getting a spot next to the lake. Then we read each of us would need to pass a background check. They wanted US to pay for it! All for the privilege of paying them $3000.00 for the site. We read the reviews, seems like the ones already there need a background check. We drove down to look at the sites. There were three in a row. They were so small you would have problems getting the camper in place and you'd have neighbors so close you could hear them snore. We read that people ride ATVs all night long, so not so peaceful.
Oct 17, 2024 · Paul Whitecotton's Keto KitchenUnfortunately they moved a very dangerous couple next to my family. Albert aka mark Bauman and Kimberly McMichaels . They threatened us with violence. Pointed stone lights at our camper and called the sheriff's 7 times false allegations and CPS. With false allegations. The owner did nothing to protect us from these people until it was too late only after they pulled a 9mm and threatened everyone else did it matter. My 675 a month wasnt important to them . If Kevin would like to talk to me as a man and settle this mess I would be willing to move forward.. if you see a jeep with Betty boop stay away they are trouble. They call the coos on all the kids just being kids and will gossip like its a sport. I'm only saying this because no family should have to deal with this type of insanity period. I will be adding the photos and videos of these sick people...
